Seed pods ...

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I have a question ... maybe someone here can help me with an answer ...

I have some vines that are leafless and on their way out. But they have developing seed pods still on them. I was thinking of pulling them up and sticking the roots in a bucket of water. I want to put them in my garage. Do the seed pods need sunlight to ripen? The garage is closed up and hot inside. It has only overhead dim fluorescent lighting. Anyone here know if the seeds will still ripen in such conditions?

Hey Becky - If you're talking about seedpods that look like the one you posted above...that stage of the seedpod doesn't require sunlight, just watch out for fungus if the conditions are too humid...otherwise drying the pods in the sun may help the seed coats to 'cure' better...

Seedpods that are still green may benefit from sunlight because the sunlight if not too intense, can help the tissue to remain alive and therefore help the cells to continue to develop...

TTY,...
