That Pink Souffle is gorgeous!

Gail, I am SO sorry you have Shingles. Every case is different. Some are bad, some not so bad. Some last a long time, some don't. Hope yours is not too bad or long.

Just make sure the doctor is helping you in every way possible. That is the key, fast treatment. Rest, and stay cool.

My shingles came at the young age of 25. Mine came from intense heat at a school trip with my son. Of course my immune system is never fabulous, but heat stress is a cause. Stress in general.

SOOOO SORRY!!!! You just keep taking care of yourself. You WILL get through ALL of this. It will just take time.

Kim Momo is a very pretty purple, she has three blooms right now!

Dimmer, Bristol's Seedling is a pretty one, I have it from our order together also, I've had it bloom with an extra whoop dee doo in the center and then also bloom like yours, so it's a tricky one! LOL

Susan that Pink Souffle is to die for!! I had a young plant of that one, it bloomed once and then promptly croaked!!

Ouch!! well rats Gail, I was really hoping it wasn't shingles for you. Take the pain pills!!!! I'm not big on meds and try to do everything natural but I'll tell you I didn't miss a dose of the pain meds with shingles. Mine came from the stress and pain of an ovarian cyst that burst, gotta tell you that ran a close second to the shingles!!! But both right on top of each other, I've never been so miserable in my life! Mine were on my right hip, butt cheek and wrapped around to the groin and up the low back. Try sitting with those on your butt?? LOL

OK, I have a few of the mini sinningias now and I am enjoying them very much, they like the Oyama self watering pots for me. Here is McKenzie that Jan sent me....

Bonnie and Clyde has been a consistent bloomer for me, gotta love it!

Ozarks Pink Kitten still hasn't done a real double bloom for me but she's a pretty little thing regardless ....

DH needs me to hold a tape measure. I am finally, after 14 years living in this house, getting a pergola to go over our small back deck, yea!!

Brenda, I didn't know that you were into sinningias...........good going! Aren't they fun!

Happy for you that you talked your construction business husband into a pergola over the deck............that is like the barber whose child never gets a haircut............you will have so much fun with so many places to hang things.........vines to grow, etc.........

Good night..........this is the strongest pain pill I have ever been given........sounds good to me.............hydrocodeine (sp?)

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Gail after I saw your first post of Merry Christmas I fell in love! I still haven't gotten that one as Dave Harris was out when I ordered but I did get 5 others and then Jan sent me a couple in trade and Bonnie sent me a couple in trade. These are the only ones I've gotten to bloom so far but I am waiting anxiously for more! LOL

Do you know I went on eBay and found sinningia tubers, just the tubers, not a plant, selling for 20 to 50 dollars each?? I was shocked, some of them were ones that Dave Harris was selling at $6.00 for a whole plant!! Like Ozarks Pink Popcorn, which I bought as a plant for $6.50 and then saw just a tuber of it go for 26 dollars, people are crazy not to shop around! Ok, off my rant LOL

Yep, hydrocodone for shingles, it makes them bearable!! And yes, I am so excited thinking of the possibilities of hanging plants and growing some climbing vines on the pergola! If I start some Morning Glories inside next year by the time it's warm enough to move them outside I think I can get them to climb the posts and bloom, I would love that!

This is a NOID strep that Susan sent me and I love these delicate small blooms! Thanks again Susan!!

Brenda..................pretty noid for sure!

I need to be taking cuttings of all sinningias but I am still scared (I took some but they aren't looking the best)......We have to get you a Merry Christmas. It has not stoppped blooming since it started blooming a couple of months ago. Let me take a picture. She is in the front and just starting to open again and still has 2 buds left.

Ebay is ridiculous.........I saw prices like you were talking about. I sold on DG Market place a container of 3 rooted cuttings of Gabriel's Horn for 7.00 and someone had bid 32.00 for one CUTTING of Gabriel's Horn.........

We will find you one.

Oh wow that is pretty... Is that a Sinn? I have I believe one or two of these that Key Ring sent me and they are still alive...LOL She also sent me another thing and of course I went and lost the name of it but it is different and I will have to take a picture to see if anyone knows what it is... I just put it on the top of the dirt and let it root and it did... Great for me...LOLOL
I have those pain pills Gail for my Fibro and I can take two at a time but I won't drive if I do. I feel fine and don't even get sleepy but if something happened even if not my fault I would think what if I didn't take them would that still have happened.. So when my pain is that bad I stay in...LOL
I am splitting my plants today and may be done by Monday night...LOLOLOL Some (most) have to be split as they are just so big and then they get top heavy ... My poor babies... LOL..
Ok I was just taking a rest as my neck starts to hurt after sitting so long and potting... so back to work for me..
Hugs,
Susan

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Susan, I have a big pair of pinking shears that you actually use for material..........(I don't like those hobby lobby little ones for scrap booking) and I keep all my leaves smaller on my streps. Trim trim trim is all I do.........or they take up the whole shelf with just a few streps........

So you know the good 'stuff' I have now for pain.............this is great to me! Pain free feels great! I didn't realize you had fibro............bummer............I have a good friend who has that, too.

Right now I am enamored with both chimeras and Russian avs. Think that is what I may do for a while......(streps, sinningias, columneas, etc of course, too)

Here is one of my babies I took from her mother Yukako starting to bloom.

Thumbnail by gessiegail
Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I would have to find her name........but I always love purple and white chimeras

Thumbnail by gessiegail
Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I had several really good Russian avs and let them go. This is the only one I keep propagating. Think that my next 'order' will be nothing but Russian avs. The blooms are always so big.....Lubimaia Docha is her name

Thumbnail by gessiegail
Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Well rest time again...LOL Well I really like them long but it is way to much to try and sit them on the shelf.. So I am getting use to shorter ones...LOL Gail why do you use pinking shears? I use fiskars that I use just for my streps and I clean them when I am done and in between cuttings... Your flowers are just beautiful... I have all I can handle with my streps and Episcia, and my Kohleria or how ever you spell them..LOLOL I need a home for a few Chirita's I have as they just don't float my boat as streps do... Ok going to see if the storm is coming again or will it blow over... We got rain earlier today but not enough...LOL
Hugs,
Sue

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Chiritas don't float my boat anymore either. Kimskreations is hybridizing them but I don't know which ones she has.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Oh Oh I am doing the happy dance... I just looked at my cuttings I put down at the begining of the summer and these never had a cover or anything and my Roulette Azur is getting babies...YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSs... I am so excited.... Sorry :-( I should learn to behave myself... NOT...LOL
Hugs,
Sue

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Never ever learn to behave.............this IS a big celebration when we get babies from any leaf or plant!!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations, Sue!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

I learned that a long time ago... It did take me a long time to do this but now there is no going back...LOL
Hugs,
Sue

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

WE never just 'get there' do we? Now I am trying to learn to know how big a sinningia needs to be to take a cutting without throwing the tuber into dormancy........but , like you said, there is no turning back now..............

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

I have to find a way to put my episcia's up so they get enough light and still grow... I really like them.. I put several in a fish bowl and they are doing great so thanks for that idea... LOL My very first two are on the shelfs just spreading and getting tons of stolens.... So if anybody wants a afew stolens let me know as I have several diffrent type of episcias that have them to spare...LOL
I am also looking for a home for Chirita's.. I will be keeping two that friends sent to me and have a few others that have to go... I know one is a Silver surfer... have about 4 of those and the others may be no named ones not sure as I type....
Hugs,
Susan

Wow, I am SO playing catch up this morning.
Because we are not smoking........hubby had one of those "let's clean out the closet" days and wow did I have alot of junk in there! I have all kinds of boxes and bags of junk for the Good Will.
It was funny, hubby says "Kim, do you really need to keeps these bags of soil and other stuff in the bedroom closet? Do you think we could put it out in the shed"? I said........"well for now I guess" (this was only to make him happy at the moment. I plan to go get the bags this week and bring them back in and put them back in the closet. When I work on my plants I need everything at arms reach and during the winter I can't have the soil in the shed or it freezes *lol*

Brenda, your sinningias are just beautiful! I am really falling for sinningias but am finding them a little difficult to understand. I have rotted quite a few tubers already. Yours look awesome! Great Growing!

Hope eveyone is having a great weekend!

Susan, I always have to put the solo pots in a glass or a plastic container to keep them from falling over. I even use a lot of those white markers and tie the plant.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

ok so it is suppose to stand up tall and not hang right? Thanks I will put it in a small pot and stake it....

Susan, that is the same plant I entered in the show last year........yours is beautiful with blooms! You can start an episcia anywhere you want to.......main stem, stolon, etc.........

edited to say first sentence is about the Gloxinia Eroinoides................you don't have a problem with the episcia.........just stick it where you want to and it will root..........

Key Ring also sent me this and of course I lot what it was so does anybody know what this is? It rooted really easy by just putting it on top of the soil... Thanks again.

Susan, I love Strawberry Patch Episcia! The Episcia's root great in light rooting mix and also in a bit of peat moss. My Cleopatra grows in peat moss.

Thank you so much Sally... I will repot it tonight... Dinner first.

Wow - that strawberry patch episcia is gorgeous! I just bought my first one a few weeks ago (cleopatra). I really don't know a whole lot about them and I gave it too much light at first - at least, I think that's what I did because I have some brown spots on the leaves now.

Columbus, OH

Susan, I'm with gessiegail, just pop that episcia in some soil and it'll root just fine. I use McDonald's sundae cups to root them. Go have yourself a tasty treat (nutritionally reprehensible, but it's for the welfare of your plant, right? LOL). Wash the cup out, fill it with a couple inches of soil or moist perlite/vermiculite and pop the top on. It'll root in no time, but they honestly root in soil most of the time just fine.

(Zone 1)

SusieQ: I'm a little late to the party but have to comment anyway! What a lovely Gloxinia (Erinodes) ... I've never heard of but I really like the looks of it. Love that bloom stalk!

So, you are into the Episcia's huh? I love Episcia's. I have a few but most lost their labels so I have no idea what's what, LOL. Mine all came in trades and are doing okay. I know they would look and do better if I spent more time on them. ^_^

Yep, I agree with Gail about your broken E. Strawberry Patch ... I'd stick that broken piece right down into some soil - it will take root very easily I'm sure!
... oh, and that pretty little no name plant looks a bit like nematanthus to me too. Where's KimK? She grows the nematanthus so I bet she will know for sure!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Wow, I can't believe how much I have to catch up on!
Wait for me ladies *lol*
Susan, you have some absolutely stunning plants! You are quite the grower young lady!
That Gloxinia Erinodes is SO cute! The flowers look like little nuns caps :) What a dainty thang :)
Strawberry Patch is STUNNING too! I LOVE the pink leaves on her!
As far as your little plant there, I have to say that I think it is Codonanthe Serrulata. Key sent me some cuttings of it too and they rooted quite easily and look exactly like that.
Here you can see the chubby little leaves and what the flowers will look like:

http://www.gesneriads.ca/codonan2.htm

Usually codonanthe are grown as a basket plant. The flowers are rather small, however, they are used to cross with Nematanthus which give us X-Codonanthus.

I promise, I won't get going on all the scientific stuff *lol*

Well, I have the next 6 weeks to find a job. Friday was my last day. I'm still a little nervous but looking forward to it in a way.

We didn't end up getting a dog this weekend as the Siberian Husky was a nipper and very high strung. It's still 3 against 1 here as far as the dog thing goes. I'm trying to talk everyone into a cat but it's not working. I saw the CUTEST cat though and I keep asking hubby if I can go get him. His name is smokey and he's HUGE and fluffy. He's a ragamuffin so he has one of those smooshed in faces (which I adore) but hubby says he looks like he has an attitude (making fun of his face). Oh is he beautiful! I am much more a cat person than a dog person but the hubby and the kids want a dog so bad :( Guess I won't be getting Smokey :'(

Hope you all have a wonderful day!!!

Kim
