July Blooms, Part V

West Plains, MO(Zone 6b)

Hello, ladies - I had to show you the bloom today on Happy Time - it may be my new favorite strep! (mmmm......maybe...it's hard to pick a favorite.) But it is aptly named!

I love Happy Time and she is one of my all time favorites, too!

Lucky you, Kim! Is it another forum I could possibly lurk on, hehe? You should talk him into joining THIS forum. Now I am on a mission to find this other group. Thanks so much, it's good to know he's still out there sharing his great knowledge.

Thanks Gail. Fred is hubby's name. I am hoping they get here Friday! My big standard violet girls are hoping for sure. I probably won't need your pots, but I sure do appreciate the offer!

The lady at avplanters called while were eating out this eve. The pots she was waiting for will be there tomorrow. I am trying out some Oyama pots on some violets. One shipment had a bluish tint to the white so I didn't want that. This shipment is the normal color. She has the 13inch support rings and other stuff I want. I have smaller rings, but no 13 inch ones.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh, Sally..........I bet I have 13" support rings. Have you already ordered them?

West Plains, MO(Zone 6b)

Has anyone ever tried the oyama pots with streps? I guess I would have to plant it in a coarser soil to use any self watering planter, huh?

All I know is that streps do not like being wet. They want to be watered and left alone to dry out. Love that Michael.

Lots of people do like the Oyama pots with Streps. I have gotten some feedback about them. You have to have the mix very light and perlite at the bottom. I have my streps wicked. They have light mix. LIke Gail said, not too wet for sure.

Gail, I will order them. It is OK. I have to order a bunch of things and it is fine. Thank you.

Ok, Sally.........but they are all stacked up ........don't even know why I bought them (LOL)

Hi all!
This Lysionotus apicidens is one of gesneriad that native to Taiwan
and China.

I've used the Oyama pots with streps and I don't care for them that way at all, or I should say that the streps don' care for them!! ^_^ Just my experience but mine like having pots where the water can run through and then they dry out before re watering even with a very lose mix. But then I don't wick either so maybe I've never gotten my mix lose enough! ^_^

Kim I hope you get a bunch of seeds from that awesome yellow polka dot Nematanthus, it is so pretty! I may have to change my opinion of the "woody" type gessies for that one!! LOL

I received a leaf from Rain a year or more ago of Kitten Face, took me awhile to grow it but now that it's going .... it blooms it's head off with so many blooms at a time that it is a constant joy! Thanks again Rain!

Wow Goldenfish, that Lysionotus apicidens is amazing! I have never heard of it. What a stunning flower! Does it produce seeds? *hint, hint* *lol*

Brenda, there are 3 (possibly 4) berries on it so we should definitely get some seeds :) I love the pink berry and moved it to a sunnier spot this morning to see if the pink gets brighter :)

Absolutely beautiful pictures everyone!

Thank you Brenda,
So many flowers!! The delicate color of your Streptocarpus is very beautiful, too:)
This L.apicidens is potted plant. I put the pot on the rock. But it is hardy in here(zone9). I can keep this in outside all the year over.

Thank you Kim,
I got this from my aunt:) It's easy to grow from cuttings but I've never try from seeds.

Nice to have a really unusual plant from Taiwan.

I love the streps like Kitten Face with a lot of little blooms, BMedel! She looks so nice and healthy, too.

I haven't found any black velvet yet . . . took this last night, just to see how it would turn out . . .

It's labled as Playful Rainbow, but I think it may be one of the "maybe nots" I was warned about . . . still I think it's pretty.

Here's a top view . . .

Playful Rainbow (8273) 07/28/1995 (S. Sorano) Semidouble pink star/blue and rose fantasy, rose-fuchsia edge. Medium green, plain, quilted. Standard

Never give up on a gessie until they have bloomed a couple of times as their blooms change with maturity........I just looked at a picture of her and she has a nice fantasy bloom

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Oh, I know . . . but the color you see in person is a solid purple . . . I didn't see the "mixed" colors until after I posted that pic! I finally found my camera this morning, so I will try again with the pix of this one tonite (I used the backup camera function on the camcorder to take those pix . . . quality of pic is not as good).

I'll see how the next few blooms come out . . . is it also common for first flowers to be single instead of double? I know that can happen on MGs . . .

Aww...I am just waiting for the flower of my russian pink strep to open so I can take some piccies. I can't believe how gorgeous the colour is!

South, TX

Playful Rainbow is a cutie! NIce picture.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

first blooms can be anything on an av, Nichole.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Gail. How are you feeling?

Lilburn, GA

Well, I took some photos today but am unable to post them as the connection from the camera to the computer is not working. Will have to get a new one.

I hope I can post them sometime this weekend. My russian pink has flowered and it is gorgeous.

Does anyone know more about this strep? Is it really russian? I have never seen this colour in any flower.

Brenda, Kitten Face is just gorgeous! It has always been one of my favorites! The blooms aren't particularly spectacular, but there are so many of them, you just can't help but love it! I'll send you a leaf or baby of Static Charge, too, so don't mourn it too much. ;o)

Speaking of Static Charge, look at the different flowers it is putting out. A regular one (and you can finally see a bit of the yellow in the throat).

Thumbnail by RainGazer

But this flower is on there the same time as the one above. It's got the "floofiness" in the middle.

Thumbnail by RainGazer

These aren't completely open yet, but I'm so excited about them, I can't wait til they are to take a picture and post it! LOL Sinningia guttata is blooming! ^_^ Seems there's a bit of a bud blast issue with this one, so I've held my breath just hoping these wouldn't blast. I think it's supposed to be fragrant, too, so hopefully later in the day they'll be fully open and fragrant. Spots are my weakness, so I'm super happy with this one! ^_^

What pretty spotty blooms! SO nice!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Amy..that strep is awesome..I love how each bloom looks a little different..I think the "floofiness"..lol..in that one bloom is the best way to describe it..so cool!Sinn Gutatta has a neat looking bloom..oooo scented..I have one Jannich sent me now I am reallly excited to see it bloom..
Syru..Playful Rainbow is a cutie!
Hope everyone has a Great Day : )

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

I too have a Sinn Gutatta from Jan and now I'm even more anxious to see it bloom, it is really a beauty!!

Great shots of Static Charge, love that bit of yellow in the throat.....

Rain I know you've posted pictures of your Pet Momo blooming, did yours also get mishapen with what looks like suckers and then bloom from that portion?

I have had several booms now and they're all coming from the "sucker" looking part, pretty little things to enjoy!

Beautiful, Amy! I hope you will add your photo's of S. guttata to PF: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/135644/ There are only 2 photo's of this plant and yours really, really needs to be there!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

waaaaaah! I can't grow petros Brenda and yours look great.

RainGazer, either you or Bonnie sent me sinningia guttata but I had no idea she is that pretty! Mine hasn't bloomed yet.

Now................Static Change is worth making an order of........she is fabulous looking and the ones with the "floofiness" in the middle of the bloom are the very best!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Wow Amy, you have some really beautiful babies blooming right now :)
LOVE guttata :) That is awesome!
Of course Static Change is a real looker too.
Brenda.......Momo looks so happy :) Is that bloom blue or purple? It sure is cute!
No new blooms this morning, however I have a few things with buds that I'm really looking forward to opening and being able to share. One of them is Sinningia Eumorpha Pink which I grew from seed. I'm especially excited about this because as most of you know, seeds/seedlings and I are still really learning to co-exist together *lol* So to get a seedling to blooming stage for me is major :) I can't wait until it opens but it will still be a few more weeks. Another one I grew from seed that has reached bud stage is Diastemma Vexans but again a few weeks from opening.
Unbelievable to me, Chirita Kitaguni is all budded up AGAIN (it just got done flowering) and Chirita Kazu looks like she will be opening some buds soon too. So although not alot new blooming now, there are some to come *woo, hoo*

I so LOVE seeing everyone's pictures in the morning with my coffee :) How pretty!

Hope everyone has a great day :)

OK.............gals.............promise this will be my last posting about my aches and pains..........but the doctor just confirmed (big rash from the back around to under the right boob) shingles. At least I now know where that horrible pain was coming from.
I will stop and post..........you know I can't stay away from DG.

I am starting my gratitude list today as I have to keep a smile and keep trucking on..............

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Here is a picture of my Pink Souffle this is one I grew from a leaf when Dimmer was at my house... Kimmy, (dimmer) nice pictures and glad you have the weekend off to rest up... Don't know why you get so upset that you can't grow streps as you grow AV's so well and they are beautiful... Me now I kill them in a short time... I do have a few alive but that is by the grace of God they are alive.. ^_^ Well my son went to live in his new home yesterday and I had a good day... was a little sad but that was it.... He called several times waiting for the cable people to come to put in his cable and then called again telling me after waiting 5 hours for them they had to come today instead of yesterday... He was very up set.. I told him welcome to the real world...LOLOLOL
Hugs,
Susan
