I, too, see that it requires signing in to view your photos.

Gordon - Just curious? Are these being grown in pots or did you build a large planter for them. I am really curious about your roses! I can't grow roses here to save my life unless they are in pots! LOL! Go figure!

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Thanks Becky.. yes, the mg'sare growinng with everyone up there.. the roses give it a run for space with their thorns..
A feathered red.. I seem to have it in white and purple also

Gordon - Is your feathered red a true red color or a dark pink? If it is red, I'd love to trade you for some seeds. :-) I have a preference for red and purple in my gardens.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Becky... the roses are in large planters mostly.. many are in a 1' x 1' x 22' planter.. new dawn lives ina16" x 24" x 40" planter... along with 3 brugs..some delphiniums.. a holly and a few others ..Gordon

Thanks LovesGreat... some of my favorites also.. I do try and post the better ones.. lets see some of your babies...
Becky... well NO.. no magazines yet.. Idid have areporter from the NYTimes by..she wanted to talk about the garden shops in NYC...which I had posted something on.. I did make the paper though.. My name was mentioned in the NYTimes.. in the same sentance along with Marlyn Monroe.. and Rita Hayworth.. Not bad company... I imagine the article to be about fameous NYC sluts .. but it wasn't...
and there was an article with pictures about the garden in the ABADS publication...that's the American Brugmansia and Datura Society.. for my Brugs.. Idid get an inspector up years ago... which an article might draw again.. and I was issued two tickets for illegal plant storage... one to me and one to the bank.. as the lawyer downstairs was jumpping up and down... saying he doesn't own the place the bank does... [ now what place doesn't the bank have apart of in this country.. anyway 15 years later ...now it's about mine ] but I had to go and appear maybe 6 seperate times.. each time getting a littler higher level buildings department lackey and defended the garden as not being illegal plant storage..before a judge.. and beat my ticket.. but as I couldn't appear for the bank..and they didn't want me to appear for them..and they surely had no interest inappearing.. and the bildings department didn't think two ticketsfor the same infraction was out of order... saying if you want fair.. go to a ball game..and it seemed not to matter that I had won myticket for the same offence.written at the same time..SO... I paid a $1500.00 judgement... so maybe at an amortized cost of
$100/ year.. I'm... pretty cool..now...a win before ajudge...and I've been left alone... so perhaps I can stand a spread in Fine Gardening.. or Urban Warfare.. Gordon
another view of it... Well... here's a string trellis... 6-8 strings on each side of the antenna... and going upto the top...one MG is about there already..

Gordon - I am sorry to hear about the woes that followed your rooftop paradise. Hopefully, the issues are now behind you! You MGs that bloomed this morning are wonderful. I have to agree with others that this one: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5338096 is beautiful! I hope you gets lots of seeds from it! :-) So how exactly did you get a photo of it??? Inquiring minds want to know!

How high up are you in the building? I bet if you garden with a soil-less mix, you don't get diseases, fungus, or pests! LOL!

I would really love to see more photos of your rooftop garden area. It's really cool looking and I want to see how you put the design together. I've read about roof top gardens in magazines, but never known anyone to have one. Two thumbs up, Gordon!!!

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Hi sydney... well thanks...yours is about my favorite city going... there's an off chance I might find myself neighborly..
Emma...Yes... alot of these I do owe to your great work and generosity.. thanks so much... well I looked for the name to the one of interest to you... and there wasn't one about for a good three feet..in either direction..... LOL! So I guess that means that you are high enough up in your building that you don't have to worry about a taller building right next to you where others can look down on your rooftop to see you parading around in your birthday suit? I assume that you live on the top floor of your building? Is the rooftop "community property" for those in your building or do you have sole rights to it?

OMG!!! That is truly amazing dear man! Your MGs really seem to thrive up there overlooking your beautiful city! This photo is just wonderful! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5372012

You are the KING of rooftop gardening!!! Love it! Your imagination and vision is astonishing!

well Thanks Becky... yes... the roof is deeded to my top floor space... I do have the maintance of the roof as the only draw back... it's on me not the co-op.. well the only place where it can be partailly viewed from is the church tower... the church is now also a co-op. having a dwindleing membership.. and high upkeep... they took the money and devoted it to their outreach programs.. and a move to another location... Gordon - I am sitting here at my computer just cracking up! I can NOT believe you have that jungle of morning glory vines growing way up there on your co-op rooftop! How many other buildings have such a lush garden on their roof? Very few, I bet! I just have to ask ... do you get hummingbirds and butterflies up there in your garden?

Gordon - I have to tell ya ... you put all of us ground-dwellers to shame with your lush vines and beautiful garden! I am sooo impressed! Your rooftop paradise is simply amazing in all aspects! I bet you just love to go home and enjoy it in the afternoon/evenings and on the weekends! Thank you so much for sharing it with us! I've enjoyed it so much!

I wonder if I could request a few more photos ... I'd love to see how you have the sitting area arranged. I am so fascinated by what you have created! It's inspiring! :-)

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Sure .. an occasional hummer... plenty of butterflies... and moths... with jasmine and three dozen brugmansias ..blooming at night.... that wall is on one side... on the other is a series of strings running up and over the antenna [ emergency TV and FM ] and back to the wall on the other side... about 20' tall... and they are about up there now... Well ... I'm having to pick myself off the floor! 36 Brugs???? That has got to be one large rooftop area! How big is that area? It must be bigger than my backyard!

How do you water all of the plants? Do you have some kind of irrigation system set-up?

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

hiya gordon. i sent ya a dmail, did you get it? roof pics are incredible. going to the top at night w/ all the brugs, ahhh

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Becky...
how large is it... well not real big.. maybe 22 x 70 I hang back some in the front and back to make sure everything up here stays up here.. and as a fire route.. you thought I was some how without pests...but I have everything every nursery I buy from has... I paid for it also.. yes there is a drip irrigation system.. although many are without the hok up ans they come and go..
And lastly.. oK three dozen brugs might be a bit out of line.. and a por guess... it's 58 by actual count today.. one is a rooting cutting of my peach parfait... so there's only 57 different varities.. did I mention a dozen plumeria.. any local who would like to drop by for a 4' plumeria cutting... they are welcome to some..
Hi Nery,,, oh sorry not to reply.. I'll write a reply tonight ... but no.. Gordon's wild Panamanian hasn't bloomed yet here.. after it's fast start.. it's slowed down some..
well all the best there... Gordon

Hi Gordon. What a treat to see your 2008 garden. So grand! I can't believe the plant police were trying to rain on your beautiful parade. You would think they would be thrilled you are helping to clean the dirty NYC air and not even collecting anyone's carbon credits.

I love it all! What is the name of that ever so blue MG? Just incredible. I too love the shot of the building thru your garden. It so softens the look of the stone cold city.

Who hung those climbing strings up so high for the MGs to climb on? I get dizzy just thinking about it. What floor are you on?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Gordon - You've got a nice size garden area up there on your rooftop with about 1500 sq. ft. of gardening room. That's a pretty decent size area. It looks like you have made the most of that space. What do you do in the winter with all these plants?

So sorry to hear that you sometimes bring to your paradise any pests or diseases when purchasing new plant additions. Too bad you don't have an isolated holding area for your new plants. It would seem that you have the perfect location to keep bugs and diseases at bay.

You've put a lot of work into your garden. Including a drip system in the plans was the icing on the cake no doubt! How long (years?) did it take you to create the garden that you have today?

I can't get over how many the different Brugs you have. Are they all in standard (small tree) form? I've only got 5 currently in my yard, but I have 2 more in pots that I have grown from seeds I crossed. :-) Beautiful plants they are indeed!

Do any of your Plumeria smell like gardenia or other strong scents? I received some cuttings from Brad (flyboy) over a year ago and all but 2 made it. They are white blooms with pinkish centers and have a very light scent. Not sure what the scent is, but it is pleasant. I was hoping they would have a stronger scent as I have caught the fragrance of other Plumeria cultivars that are just divine!

And last question ... for this post anyway ... I just have to ask ... how many MGs vines are you currently growing? It looks like quite a few to me!

Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Good morning Gordon

My, what a garden to behold and still want to be your neighbour..when are you moving here..lol....question for you. I have 2...yes only 2 brugs and these are my first and were cuttings from a local DG'er. I have repotted twice and seems as though they need it again, as I can see roots from the bottom. Last time I repotted, they grew at least 3ft in about 5 weeks and have 2 to 3 off shoots from the main stem on both plants. I feed regularly about 3x p/week and they get full sun everyday. Do you think its too late in the season to repot, or should I just leave them?

I still have no flowers, but have many yet to bloom...waiting patiently and should be any day/hr now. Do they only bloom at nite? If so, I need to relocate them to a more prominent spot...well closer to me when I get off duty and get outside to relax.

Ive so enjoyed your pictures and threads that youve created.... and any amount of pictures could never be enough..so keep posting them and hope you have a great day.

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

Hi Gordon just wanted you to know I am really enjoying seeing all your photos. Outstanding plants. Does your mom ever propagate the brugs or does she just grow all kinds. I hope she is doing well. Any way you will have to post the blooms of yours.
Cindy
