Here's a juvenile black headed gull

Adult, starting to moult from summer plumage to winter plumage ;-)

Resin

Cramlington, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

So it's the juveniles that have the black smudges on the head?

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Hi Kniph - the juveniles are the ones with brown wings and back at the moment.

Then in a month or two the juvs will moult into first-winter, getting a grey back but still with brown wings:

Good to see you back Adel...and nice pics everyone!

This Blue Jay landed on a shepherds hook where I had attached a twig for the little birds to perch and I could possibly photograph.

Nice dellrose! I keep a cup near my side door and fill it with peanuts, they just come and take when they please! ☺

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Knip - I have never seen a Canada goose looking like that. We have so many of them here. How unusual. I think Resin once described a pale looking finch as being leuco..something. I wonder if that's the same for the goose. It certainly is pale!
Claire

Cramlington, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Yes, I wonder if Resin can offer an opinion. I posted that shot so you could compare it with the others. Here's another photo.

WC...love your Blue Jay...I keep peanuts out for them too and I guess one of them decided to stash one in that perch!!

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Probably just leucistic, but it might be a second generation hybrid Canada-Greylag cross.

Resin

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes dellrose!! They do that! Many times they take the peanut, fly to a different location, place it on the ground and cover it with leaves. Then they go back to eat the others with the other birds. Later they come back to the same spot and uncover the peanut they stashed! Then they fly off with it, amazing! ( & smart! lol☺)

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)
