I had a couple ideas I would like to share.
The first is a basic photo editor when downloading pictures. Maybe resize, crop, and turning pictures from horizontal to vertical. I don't know if that is something simple to add or not. I do know that many people have problems resizing and such and have to download programs that maybe difficult and confusing for them to use. This would be an easy way for us simple people.
Next idea is a new forum for reptiles and turtles. There seems to be intrest in pictures, indentification, and discussion about frogs, toads, snakes, lizzards and turtles. It could be a fun forum, although I myself am not too fond of snakes.
Just an idea for a new forum and downloading pictures.
Or a forum on insects, and one on weeds.
I think a basic photo editor forum would be interesting! I know I am one of the not so technical people who is always having to wait for my DH to get home to try to teach me how to do it, which usually doesn't work. He is very technical and I am not.
We do have a Bug Files forum: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/ and one called Insectipedia for bug identification: http://davesgarden.com/guides/insectipedia/
Now, a weed forum sounds great. I know a lot of folks would like to be able to identify weeds and have information on how to get rid of them! We all have that problem!
Hello cpartschick. I think a forum on all things reptilian and amphibian would be great. (By the way, how are your snappers)?
Plantladylin, I'm all for a weeds forum.
If you're trying to ID your weeds, people post all sorts of weeds on the ID forum. And if you want help on getting rid of them there's the Invasive Plants forum (or frequently once a weed's been ID'd on the ID forum, people will share tips on getting rid of it there too)
Weeds, now that could be a problem forum (IMHO) because I have found what many call weeds are also native plants. We allow many of those "weeds" to live happily on our property much to the displeasure of a neighbor that loves her manicured lawn. We are the ones in the neighborhood with the many species of butterflies flitting about when you see no others around. We have many bees, bugs, spiders and snakes and aside from mosquitoes thay are all allowed to live.
Again, IMHO, my weeds are impatiens, 4 o'clocks, nn passiflora , nn morning glories that I have to constantly eradicate as they try to take over. Oh,and the awful nn petunias that everyone plants because they're pretty
I'm not saying this to draw the ill will of many folks that love these same plants but "weeds" are certainly in the eye of the beholder. I have many non native plants but they must be very well behaved or they becomes my weeds and are eradicated. I feel these threads need to stay in Garden Foes and the like forums that were made for just this reason.
I hope you will all take my words in the manner intended and not be angry...I'm simply making a point
Thanks,
Stacey
" a weed is a plant that is growing where it is not wanted" I don't know who said that first but it is one of my favorite garden quotes. For me, that is horse tails and wild roses. Both of which some people love.
Margaret, the snappers hide the rest of the year on us. Hopefully we will see the hatchlings this fall, as they make it to the water. Thanks for asking.
BTW my yard is full of what I call wild plants and others call weeds. LOL
Zanymuse - That's my favorite garden quote too. I've told my DSD, 7, that so many times she can recite it. Especially when she asks me if she can pull a "weed" that I'm not sure what is.
I'm still for turning Bugfiles into Faunafiles and allowing other animals to be added. There have been a lot of non-bug and non-plant IDs requests recently. Personally I think that Pets forum and Native Plants and Wild Plants forum should be able to handle the general talk about frogs, toads, snakes, lizards and turtles. Though I have found posts on the subject in many diverse forums, Water gardens forum and Garden Art are the two I can think of off the top of my head, so maybe I'm wrong. I do think it would be nice to, for example, look up my frogs, instead of having to post to find the answer. I think adding Birds to "Bugfiles" would be great hit. Snakes are important to be able to ID. There are a lot of other garden friends and foes I think people would look up if the option was there.
I definitely support Fauna Files...including toads, lizards, snakes, and turtles. There is so much misinformation out on the web and when you see it, you see that same misinformation in most every site. It is very frustrating
Maybe we should start a thread asking for FaunaFiles?
Yes, I think there would be more response if it wasn't hidden in this thread.
Do you want to do that?
Seems to me there was another thread asking for birds and it evolved into more. Maybe we should bring that one back up since there were already so many wanting it instead of starting all over. Should be in this forum somewhere.
