Daily Pics Vol. 125

Klamath River, CA

boojum....................Some of my pics are with a telephoto lens and some the birds let me get close. The birds around my house are used to me and I can get close shots if I sit still and let them come to me.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

I guess my birds are skittish and then there are warblers!! lol!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

No pix today, but goodness… my house finches are going bonkers over the niger! I find it kinda strange in the middle of the summer that they are eating so much. Anyone else seeing this kind of activity?

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

WOW! Almost albino female Bluebird brought home today with single daddy. I hope she is nice to his 3 week old non self feeding fledges. She is very shy so far

Mrs. Ed...I haven't seen a House Finch since Spring!

Saw some Wild Turkeys down the road today...shot from a distance as I wasn't about to climb into that tick and chigger infested field!

also saw some Turkey Vultures along a gravel road...I think they are Juvies!

LOL rose! Cute! Yes, I said Cute.

Funny about the house finches, since you have every other bird in the world. I have mostly those and sparrows now. A pair of cardinals, some other usual suspects. I have not been able to get to F&F to get peanuts, so the silo sits empty. I put in some suet, but the only takers I had were sparrows! Egads!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

LOL Marna...I will see those Turkey Vultures in a different light from now on. I thought they were cute too!

We also don't have any Purple Finches...go figure! Still can't complain though as we also have no Starlings and the only Grackles we have are Juvies! Since I am still new at this...less than a year of watching it is interesting to realize one day that certain birds are missing! During the winter we had just a few Blue Jays and now we have lots of them as well as Red Winged Blackbirds! Everyday is a surprise and I'm loving it!

Melbourne, FL

Terrific pics everyone, I especially love the Indigo pic Rose. This morning before work I heard a totally different bird call, but never saw the bird. I did see three of the wild Parrots (heard them too). On the way home, close to where I live, I saw a Swallow-tailed Kite in the sky.

Marlton, NJ

Nice pic Birdie! Glad he has a female now.

Rose, Love the Turkey Vulture pics!

Fox Island, WA(Zone 8b)

Conway MO = Heaven

LOL

I like that song thrush - the spots on its chest look like a cheetah

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Gee..thanks everyone, you are most kind!

GP...congrats on the Swallow-tail, is it a new bird for you? I hope you get another look and can get a pic to share. I looked them up and they are awesome looking!

Nanny...that pic of the House Finches makes me miss ours even more!

rntx22..LOL!

This little Indigo cracks me up with his coloring!!

Great photos everyone, I love your wattle bird Margaret and how lovely to see wild turkeys again (I used to see them in Maine).
About the niger seed - I've noticed in the last week or two that the finches (mostly gold and green) have been at my feeder regularly.

rose, looks like he tried to spray paint himself.!

kniphofia, interesting that you are experiencing the same thing. I just filled the two long "socks" just the other day and they are empty. I haven't seen the goldfinch pair in a couple of days either. Some of my early sunflowers are starting to seed, so I will see them at those shortly.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

LOL Mrs. Ed! I remember GP used to have some that looked like that one!

kniphofia...I just love your Goldfinches...they are so different from ours!

I also noticed the Goldfinches eating on the sunflowers as well as the niger feeders! This little Male swears that it isn't him eating all the seeds!!

Oh man, my goldfinch and chickadees go crazy for my sunflowers.

I plant a long row along the back fence every year. This year I only have about half because the neighbor boy I hired to take care of the yard during my surgery rehab weedwacked the heck out of them! Ha.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I planted lots too and the dang heifers broke in and chewed them all down!!

Nice shot!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

oh crud, I didn't even mean to post that. silly me.

I meant to post one with my sunflowers. Sheesh, now I can't find them.

oh well. dang heifers and weed-wacking kids!
lol

Rose, if you're not careful, you're going to find fifty DG'ers lobbed on your doorstep armed with cameras and bags of sugar.

Kniphofia, your gorgeous little robin looks like it's just had a sniff of a rose petal and is trying to decipher the subtle notes - like a wine connoisseur

Thanks, Boojum. Banksias attract birds, bees, beetles and ants (the latter not the aggressive kind). Everything about the banksia is intriguing. The Red Wattlebird is a real character. I've been walking around in the yard with a bowl of cornflakes and one has come and perched on my bowl and helped itself.

Wallaby, the feather pattern on the song thrush looks like passionfruit on ice cream.

Thanks for the encouraging comment, pelle.

The attached photo is quite an old one of a Crimson Rosella outside the TV room. It visited for a couple of years on and off. It was probably an escapee from an aviary as they are not native to W.A.

I'm going to get out of the smoke for two or three days by going to the coast. Hopefully I'll see a new bird.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow, I've been away too long! Y'alls pictures are wonderful and so colorful!

I went to the Black Hills of South Dakota. When I got back, this lovely lady was all about the yard! I haven't seen an oriole since last spring. I also saw my hummingbird for the first time in months. Apparently, my presence in the garden was the problem!

Thumbnail by Elphaba
Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Margaret...that is such a pretty bird.

Elphaba...my DH say that about regarding the hummers!! He goes out there and they are all over. I come out, they all vanish!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Nanny, I guess they don't like all the attention that we give them!

I'm still figuring out what birds I saw in South Dakota. I believe this one is a Western Meadowlark (based solely on range b/c Eastern and Western look the same to me!). It was in the valley of the Badlands.

Here it is again running off into the sun and squawking because I dared to take a picture of it!

Believe it or not, I did crop this photo. I didn't crop any more though b/c I like the way this flicker blends in with the tree. At least, I think it's a flicker. It wasn't as brightly colored as the ones in my book -- young, female?

Looks like you had a nice trip Elphaba...I love South Dakota!

Went down to the river today and spotted this Northern Parula...a first. Pics are not the greatest, poor light and far away...very tiny bird!

Great pics Grandmaggie! That blue jay looks very happy to be in your yard!

Elphaba - great shot of the meadowlark. Handsome bird!
