The other effects of the Plumeria Mosaic "Splash" Virus

Thumbnail by dbrooks

Another plant, same ugly effects. Once it gets hot, its easy to tell which plants have the disease....the scary thing is it is coming from many sources Hawaii, Mexico, and Thailand. I wonder if its hard for growers in milder climate to tell if plants are carrying the virus?

Davie how exciting to see the Rose Red babies!! I am looking forward to further updates.

I have the same 'unknown red rainbow' from Hawaii; did yours come from Evelyn? on Malestrom's thread he is showing pictures of Suki's 'Leticia' and I believe they may be the same. It sure is a gorgeous, big flower with many color stages.

Please tell us where Flames of the Sun came from, it is a beauty for sure!

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

What a collection! Beautiful flowers, Davie. Thanks for sharing. Love the petal formation on the unknown red!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Beautiful pictures, Davie! Right on!

Yes, I agree that that is 'Kauka Wilder.'

The first yellow from the co-op might be 'Aztec Gold.' See if it smells like peaches.

Some gift with the 'Lava Flow'!

'Som Garasin' is supposed to be 'Penang Peach,' I believe, but yours is looking a little different right now.

The shape of the petals on your yellow/white doesn't look like 'Celadine' to me, but it could be a seedling of it. It has ruffled edges to the petals, which is really cool.

Flames of the Sun is outstanding! Gorgeous!

I don't think your unknown rainbow is Teresa Wilder, but it's hard to say.

Yeah, I've used a few seedling for grafting stock too. They make nice multi-grafted trees. You could even leave one branch of the original to see if it gets any better. It's kind of disappointing to wait four years for inferior-looking ones.

I'm glad to see your seedlings doing well. If you get a pair of tweezers you can gently see if those seed coats will come off. Let me know how many didn't germinate or rotted, and I'll see if I can replace them.

Oh, my gosh. Kill those guys if you can. I'm sorry. I hate to kill anything, but they will eat all your seedlings, inflo's, and everything in their path. They are highly destructive. I have a few in my plumie patch, but most of them are too fast for me to catch.

Yes, heat stress brings out the splash in the leaves and flowers for sure. You are probably right that it shows itself more in hotter climates.

One of my Evenlyn's rainbows is blooming now too. I'll post a picture of it a little later.

Hi Hetty, the Rose Red seedlings are doing great, we had 49 out of 51 germ...pretty goo for plumeria if you ask me. Didn't pre soak them or anything.
Yes the unknown rainbow came from Evelyn, I have about 5 of them...all have very large flower with a strong scent, very beautiful.
I got the Flames of the Sun from Ebay over a year ago. It came from Thailand...I believe from Plumeria888 or anyamanee. It was so long ago, I can't remember. I tried going through my receipts with no luck.

Thanls for the compliment Kathleen.

Its funny you mention that about Som Garasin and Penang Peach...they are flowering right next to each other and look very very similar. I think that the SG is a little darker than the PP, but they are close enough that maybe it is either PP or a seedling of PP. I will keep a close eye on them as the weather changes to see how they react.
The white seedling was sent as mystery seed, I am afraid the only mystery was when, not if they were going to bloom white.
The seed I got from you and Kukiat is coming up great, if I have a problem with anything in particular I will let you know...thank you. I have been pulling the seed jackets off little by little...when its not too hot.
Evelyn's Rainbow is one of my favorites...consistent bloomer, smells good, holds its color well. I have a few of them blooming now.
The Lava Flow came direct from the grower...I have touched it with any tools, got stuck it in the ground...turned out like this.
