Very nice shots, Louise. That first one should be called The Plumber.
stones, rocks, boulders & erratics
LOL, Victor! Thanks! Today was a great day to get some shots of the waterfalls on our road. Usually, the water doesn't show up well.
This isn't really rock but is recycled concrete from a small town that was having its sidewalks re-done.

Keep the rocks. I want those iris!!
Martha
Yes, that iris rocks!
I agree with Martha.
Great job, DLR. So if it was recycled that means you got it for free? WOW! Way to reuse it. Great to see the transformation from start to ...... You know I can't say finish, cuz gardeners are never finished. lol jan
The contractor in charge of the job was more than happy to dump several truck loads (until I said stop, now I wish I wouldn't have could use a couple more loads) for a couple of cases of beer he was paying to have it crushed 25 miles away so hauling to me 6 miles saved him a lot of money too.
Here is the CBS Sunday Morning piece on the stone mason I posted about. It is less impressive this small & with less color, but you will still get the idea.

great project sandy!
great stone walls.
Havn't seen you here beor Sandy Welcome!
Jo Ann
Thanks! It's been awhile since I've been on NE forum-I have an unhealthy obsession with talking about my farm animals so what time I have on the computer I've spent on the poultry and livestock forum! I've missed everyone!
We have a turkey that visits everyday-she occasionally knocks over a top stone but that's ok!
Sue ☺
sandy, how looonnnggg is that driveway? It looks like it stretches for a bit.
great job - it looks great! jan
Thanks! It's almost 3/10ths of a mile. We try not to look up the driveway while building it otherwise it feels overwhelming! I just look ahead enough to gauge where the base stones should be placed. I know we should probably measure how far off the driveway we've been building but I've just been doing it by eye. I figure it's a farm wall!
Here's a pic from the second story window. We also built a retaining wall and a flowerbed(although there's no flowers in it!)
Sue ☺
Nice to see you again, Sue. Great walls!
Thanks!
Absolutely beautiful, Sue. What a wonderful ongoing project. Those are the ones I like. Is that the arm of a kubota? Oooh, baby - I'm in love!
How long is that driveway?!!
Wow what a job. All these great projects with stone. I think there are a lot of talented people on this forum, and strong ones too. :)
Hi Sue - I have a thread here at the NE forum on a rock wall i'm building that will be 100 ft long. I've built abour 800 ft of wall on me property. one third of a mile is really impressive for "only" having a few stones! When do you start on the other side of the driveway:)
Hi Sue! So nice to hear from you again! Your walls are incredible! I can't believe the length of your driveway. You have a lovely place there!
Sue, I dig those stones, man! Want a job? DH is encircling our house with concrete, LOL.
I thought our 70' downhill driveway was huge! You have us beat. I do have a stone retaining wall along one side though. It was here when we got here.
Martha
We have a wooden retaining wall DH built for me 9 - 10 years ago, and it's starting to disintegrate. I want a rock wall too! (Whine.)
Yes, it's the arm of the kubota-I'm in love too!! My DH and I fight over who gets it on the Weekends! Now my 17 year-old DD is learning how to run it! I actually have her drive me around the lots looking for stones. It beats getting on and off the tractor!
Victor, it's close to a third of a mile. I try not to think about it!!lol!
We couldn't decide what to do going up the driveway-teenagers like to drive through the lots that we can't see from the house-so we have to put something up. The stonewall is the most economical and the least maintainence. We've put in about 40 hours on the wall going up the driveway.
As far as putting up a wall on the otherside of the driveway, hmmm, Never! lol!
Sue ☺
Luckily, when my Grandfather bought the farm in 1940, the mail service asked where would he like the box set up and he picked 1/3 way down the driveway. Too bad it wasn't all the way down here! Although the maillady leaves nasty notes in the box whenever it snows.(one read," this driveway is impassable!" my comment was, you were able to put this in the box so it couldn't be that bad!)
I figure if I can drive thru with my escort it doesn't need to be plowed! If we only get a inch and we try to clean it up, it only digs up the gravel making potholes. I've told here if she can't drive down, don't deliver the mail until you can! :)
Ah, such as life!
Sue☺
You tell her, Sue! What happened to "Neither sleet, nor snow etc..." of the postal code????
Wow, I guess I'd better look at your rock wall thread, because those are gorgeous walls AND rock centerpieces.
Sue, my DD is 17 too, and she's learning to drive a car - now that's scary.
Louise, I guess the postal code doesn't have anything in it about being friendly, polite or courteous, just that it has to get there!
#2 can't find it ,later. BEV
Nice job, Bev, and so sorry to hear (read) about your GKs.
