Is there a list of commonly used abbreviations?
Abbreviations?
What sort of abbreviations are you talking about? Plant related ones, or the conversational ones that everyone here uses like DH, LOL, etc?
DH and that type stuff. I know the lol and those, and I can generally context the others but it would be nice to know. I thought I remembered a list from last time I was on.
I don't remember ever seeing anyone post a list but hopefully someone else will! If not, I've seen a lot of people ask in the threads if they see one they don't recognize, people are always happy to help interpret.
As I said I can usually figure it out, but I'm not confident enough to use them without having it spelled out. If no one posts a list here maybe I'll ask on some of the threads. Or maybe start a thread asking for people to explain.
Here's the ones I know:
DH = Dear Husband
DW = Dear Wife
DD = Dear Daughter
DS = Dear Son
DGD = Dear Granddaughter
DGS = Dear Grandson
ROFL = Rolling on the floor laughing
ROFLOL = Rolling on the floor laughing out loud
BRB = Be Right Back
BBL = Be Back Later
TTYL = Talk To You Later
PF = PlantFiles http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/
GWD = Garden Watchdog http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/
BF = Bugfiles http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/
I know there's more, but I can't think of them right now.
Here's a link for standard computer chat abbreviations http://www.5starsupport.com/tutorial/chat-abbreviations.htm
A lot of these I hadn't run into but it seems like a good list. I found it when I ran into some things in a game chat that I didn't know.
TIA=Thanks In Advance
IMHO=In My Humble Opinion
IMO - in my opinion - your opinion doesn't have to be "humble" -- hee, hee, hee.
Karen
Don't forget TMI (Too Much Information)
An old thread, but it contains a lot of the acronyms still used today: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/384614/
I think that was the one I was thinking of! Thanks.
If I added DSD -Dear Step-Daughter would people be confused? I don't like to do daughter, we try to keep me and her blood mom in separate pigeon holes, and it causes some confusion at times. But I'm getting really tired of writing it.
People often write DStD, DStS, DStM, DStSis, etc.
Thanks! I'll start using that.
Hope that helps. ;-)
Lets not forget TTFN (Ta-Ta For Now) and my favourite of all time TANSTAAFL (There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch - Thank you, Robert Anson Heinlein, who came up with that one way back in 1966, way before the PC (Personal Computer))
I'll Stop Now,
Ciao, KK.
