ROSE gardening in Maine

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

Ohhhhhhh Victor
I could NOT get that staircase out of my mind, honestly I dreamed about a staircase like that for so many years and kept admiring them in books/magazines.The workmanship is outstanding ! The oak panels are beautiful.
(BTW in the bathroom I redid this year previous owners painted over mahogany.Again georgeous woodwork .I stripped enough furniture in my life but that task was going to be too much for me at my age) so I painted it again.

Pulling up the rug did not get rid of the cat urine smell,we had to have the floor and stairs stripped and redone.Very dark marks are left but at least that horrid catsmell is gone.Don't get me wrong I am a very big animal lover.Thank god our cat is litter box trained.

Yes it will be my dreamhouse.Thought our other one was until we moved into this one.ALOT has to be done but I have always been a DIY :-)

Here are some pictures of what I have done today.

Just a test to see how things pull together..?

I figured you were going to say that about the carpet. A friend of mine bought a "cat" house besides replacing all the floors had to replace all the sheet rock up to 3'.
It does look like a fabric.

It does look like fabric. The antiques are nice also. Do I see some Nippon? The oil lamp holder on the wall, does it have a date on it?

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

It's pulling together very nicely, Brigitte! I agree - the paper looks like fabric, and very authentic to the period of the house! Good going! How exciting to see so much progress.......you're humming!! LOL

Wow!!!! Gorgeous!!!!!

Whew, I'm tired just looking. Great job!!! What inspiration!

DH's college roommate also had to replace drywall up several feet as well as sand-blast the family room addition which was on a cement slab. The house had been shut up for a couple of months before they moved in. They wondered why there was always coffee brewing or the windows were open or candles were burning when the looked at the house. They sued the former owners. Don't know what the settlement was.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

If the former owners had taken as much care of the cats as they did to hide the fact there were cats in the house things would have turned out differently for them
I hope the new owners won.
There really isn't anything on the market to cover up such a oder.

And there is NOTHING worse than that smell, well....maybe a house full of smokers. When we were looking for a house if we smelled either one when we opened the door we just turned around, couldn't even stand to walk inside.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Again, beautiful house AND gardens. Looking forward to seeing more progress as time goes by.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Brigette, your work on the house is amazing. Looks wonderful!! My SIL bought an older house and they had to replace all the flooring due to cat urine. Ended up being very expensive but worth it.

Dexter, ME

Eglantyne where did you get your wallpaper -I have been looking and have not found anything I like.I love that type of wallpaper looks like cloth it would be great for what room I am doing?

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

Hi ,
I am so sorry I haven't been on DG's for a while because of so many commitments...I don't know if I am coming or going....

But I got this wonderful wallpaper which is made in Germany thru 'Decorate today" under either Victorian or 'Rococco'.II can't remember which search I did.
It comes in different colors.
I liked it that much that I bougth it for our master bathroom which BTW came out GREAT and also in burgundy/gold for the library which I'm still working on...last bookshelf.

Where is Dexter ? hope you're save ...lots of power outage due to the storm,
Brigitte

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

Hi everyone,
at your request :-) I will start out with a few pictures of my grocery store.
The roombox was purchased from Germany and is a antique replica ca.1900.I had it sent unassembled and put it together myself.

As you can see I put the Wallpaper up and installed the very thin real Oak flooring. The bare spot will be under the large cabinet.Didn't want to send away for another sheet.

Just gathering items I had for a long time i.e.working cashregister and hanging brass scale, both made by Bodo Hennig,Germany

Dec.13th 2008 - large Cabinet is painted, same color as our real life library.wallpaper is a exact replica of a victorian wallpaper.
Miniatures opened a whole wide world to me.EVERTHING one finds in real life is made in Dollhouse miniatures.

Dec.19th...the food you can see in the meat and cheese counter I made out of fimo or sclupy or mixed my own to achieve realistic colors.I usually make something and have ie.Poatatoes, savoy cabbage etc.in front of me.Most of these I made about 8 years ago and they held up fine.
Will post closeups as well.

Unfinished meat and cheesecounter.I removed the plexiglass and cut a piece of real glass for the display case.

Lot of work there! Good grief. 1st picture - In the back cab up against the wall, flow blue, blue willow china.. It dont look like Staffordshire? Cant really see it and cant touch it so I am guessing.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I am in total awe. WOW!!! Thanks for sharing your craftsmanship with us.
