Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

Eden is a absolutely georgeous rose !!

**
No she is still thinking of a name..I call it procrastinating about a name....just kidding,we're best friends ,she calls me several times a day .I am very lucky to have a daughter like her.
Seriously she is always running the kids around ( 4 ) from one place to the next. She definately will join though !!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - 4 kids! No wonder she does not have time to think up a name.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Eglantyne. All your work to create such a beautiful garden has exhausted me completely! I am going to bed now and dream of roses in Maine. Thanks, Patti

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Brigitte - LOL......What do you mean "like I already knew you"....??? LOL - OF COURSE you already knew me......and I you! LOL That's how it is on DG.....old friends by the time we meet! Seriously, I didn't see any strangers at Kassia's......did you? HA HA

Your gardens are setting a very high standard, I'll have you know! Beautiful!!!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Brigitte, I am so wowed by your beautiful roses and your house is beautiful too! I enjoyed meeting you at the RU. I wish I had taken more time to get to know you. We will at the next RU, what do you say?

It is amazing how gardening is the common thread that makes us all so familliar with each other.
I am looking forward to meeting Robindog and Debilu in August. I have probably wiggled past debbilu in a garden store but wouldn't have known it, age is the same anonymous item, from the looks of the attendees at Kassias there is a bit of a span in years yet I'm astonished at the memories that are posted in the Watercooler thread.
This is how the world should be.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Welcome, MegaGwyn, I am with you - I love roses, but I really love fragrant lilies!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Jo Anne - I agree with you completely that the love of gardening and the "gardener's general nature" makes it so easy to relate to each other and span the age differences gracefully. I have always had friends whose ages range the whole length of the continuum, so I find that age is irrelevant and interests and attitude are everything. I "pal around" here with a gal who is 99 and the oldest living person in town, and in Conn. and Florida some of my best friends are just starting their families. At Kassia's, I don't think anyone missed a beat with each other, no matter what age! Great, isn't it?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Love all of you and hope we can meet someday.
Debbilu( who is MIA) and Robindog are comming to my house in mid Aug when RD comes to visit her niece who lives a mile from me.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

What a fun visit that will be, Jo Anne! I hope to meet all 3 of you at some point!!

West Roxbury, MA

Thank you to all you hospitable people for your welcome. What inspiring pictures.

The David Austin nursery in Texas just sent me their catalogue (2008). Uh-oh. Talk about a siren song. I originally had planned to buy only three new roses for next spring, but now I think it must be five. Expect to hear from me as I ask for your advice about what has worked for you.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Oooooh, Megagwyn......that sounds like a really fun shopping spree. Enjoy!! ....and show us some pics when you get them!

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

Hi....gosh I am so sorry I haven't been much on Dg's lately.....I promise I will reply and post some more pics.

My gardening has REALLY fell behind because plans changed and I am renovating/restoring our library instead.Had to get the carpenter when he is available.

Been prepping and painting etc.need to continue painting and wallpapering until our family arrives onthe 15th Aug......MIL fly's in to Portland..our oldest son with 3 little boys ( 6 1/2 old twins which we haven't seen yet ) and wife will fly into Boston and spend some time with Angela before they come up here.

Very long day ....I am beat so got to get some sleep.TTYL,
Brig

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Have fun with your family Brigitte! Don't worry about us. We'll always be here.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

I am just getting ready to FALL into bed but had to check in to wind down a little. But here are a couple of pictures of the library....so far I have 3 sections done....still touch up to do etc...but I have 3 out of 6 Bookcase sections done, each 9 shelfs high ( I think ? )

Today it poured and poured....I didn't paint but sorted books after books.
Also painted some of my dollhouse furniture to wind down while I was watching a german language movie tonight and had some wine.

BTW :-) I am NOT falling into bed because I had some wine ...LOL...but because I am pushing to get the mayority done before my MIL arrives one the 15th and I am really tired.

What a mess everywhwere..........

This is the 1st wall...3 more to go.
But I still have to touch up paint and use Goldleaf for some of the trims.
The next wall tomorow is the one with the fireplace.Maybe I will wallpaper if I have a chance and then put Oil paintings up on that wall.
I am working around the room...a few hours right after the carpenter.

It's all beautiful.Love the flower tiles around the fireplace.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Wow! Your fireplace is gorgeous, your bookshelves beautiful, including the way you've displayed the books and what an incredible stock of rose books you have!! You'll be ready for your MIL on the 15th. I have confidence in you.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Nice to see you here Brigitte. I followed your previous threads. Everything looks terrific!! Your library is astounding. Sleep well, you've certainly earned it

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Beautiful library!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Are those clay tiles around the fireplace new?
Tile manufacturers are re-issuing old styles these days.
I would have bought the house for those tiles alone.
Cant wait ti see the finished room with gold leaf.
Maybe it should be a thread of its own, could be a garden topic with those flower tiles ya know.

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

Thank you all for the compliments. It helps to keep going....the carpenter is still here so I don't want to be in his way so boring housework has to be done...what's a wife to do ;-)

Sofonisba,
YES I do have alot of rosebooks ..blushing...I seem to go overboard when I LOVE something.Have a few more sitting in the TV room when my husband watches TV I read instead or do embroidery or Dollhouse Miniatures.
Don't know about the 15th though,just 2 more weeks...

venue209,
good to see you here too :-)))) ..how are your roses doing ? gardening going well for you I am sure.

victorgardener,
Thank you...I will post more pictures when I have the second wall done. Was hoping to get to wallpapering that wall today but like I said the carpenter is still in and out.need to concentrate when I wallpaper.

ge1836
You must love old houses,is 1836 your house it was built ?
The tiles are old and were here and I choose the paintcolor from hues of the tiles .Our house was built in 1850.

( I don't know how that would go over having a thread alone ? )

Thanks again everything,break is over,
Brigitte

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Wow, Brigitte, LOVE the woodwork in there, the fireplace is wonderful! I don't think I've ever seen so many books about roses.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Oh, MY!! Brigitte! What a beautiful job you are doing! I love your paint choices and the fireplace tiles and the classy way you have arranged everything on the shelves. I even love your floor! What a neat room this is going to be when you are finished. I think your entire house is just great! Good going!

Southeastern, CT(Zone 6a)

Now that's a lot of work. It's really beautiful. How the heck do you get the books so clean? I have a glass-front book cases and my books don't look that nice! Your home looks so cozy!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I gotta clear something up here.Post #5354007 asked if ge1836 reffered to the age of my house.
Don't I wish
I was born in 1936
Lived in an Arts Crafts bungalo 1927 for 50 years and am now with my second daughter in a BIG house 1988.
Lots of gardens to replant. I,m loving it.

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

flowerjen,
The woodwork is looking really good now after it is painted. All the antique architectural columns were in sad shape when my husband got them at a auction 1-1 1/2 ago.Had them stripped and the carpenter and us made verbal plans how they should be used.Missed some nail holes the first time around.....still LOTS of work to be done but I will post pictures of before and after.

Donniebrook,
Among many other interests I love to collect and decorate. So I use some of my collections thruout the bookshelfs. All of the Hummel figurines we got in Germany some as long as 30 years ago.
Funny that you mentioned the floor. When we first saw the house I noticed a strong cat urine odor in that room. The owners had several cats and sure enough NOT litter box trained.A horrible industrial carpet was covering the floor.
But I am able to look beyond and know what I can do with the things/items/house.So we got it BUT that rug was ripped up immediately by our oldest son and we had the floor refinished.

Nanegoat,
Well I just donated alot of books and some of them were loved and worn some :-) The books which look the best are bound in Leather from the Easton Press which we also collected since 1975....now to have the time to read them all is another story.....
Thanks everyone, now I will show you a picture why I really fell in love with this part of the home.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

It shows.
Your attention to detail and honoring the integrity of the house will have a big pay off as I'm sure you know.

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

Was interrupted earlier but that's the part of the house that stole my heart. The Oak Stair case ..now the rug is gone due to the cats.

Upstairs the way it looked then.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

It's amazing. You would think anyone who would use THAT carpet, would have painted all the woodwork too.
It's just beautiful color.
You were sparred.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I remember the exterior of the house at the start of this thread.
It's going to be your personal space when you finish.

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

ge1836,
oh I thought maybe that was the year the house you live in now.Don't you love old houses though. The quality is just not there nowadays ! and if one can't afford it.There is no way we could afford something like our staircase nowadays.

WOW 50 years in one house/home.That is great ! we moved around alot ,we're a retired military family.

I am happy that you having fun gardening :-) My MIL is 85 and I know when she comes she will be out in the garden.

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

The library always has been my space since I loved to read and go to libraries from very little on.

Well got to go,TTYL...have a great day :-)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow! What gorgeous wood, Brigitte. I would have flipped for that too.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

WOW, that woodwork is just b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l.
Did pulling up the rug get rid of the cat smell????

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

What wonderful woodwork, Brigitte! That's a dream house for someone with your interests! (and mine) LOL
