Yes, I know what you mean. Lobelia has to be in the shade and cool and lucky to look good in July and August! (I can't do it but I've seen it done.)

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I just love lobelia but don't have any luck planting it in the ground.
Containers is what works for me, alas what I thought was going to be shady or part shad on the deck ,gets lots of sun until 3:00 The Cannas in the front get full sun I should have known beter
New house ,won't make that mistake again.

My fanciest container project to date:
picotee cosmos
pink gazania
MG "Bright Eyed Girl" (yet to bloom)
dahlia "Starsister Red + White" (really magenta and white)

in a cool blue and turquoise Wal Mart drink tub.

i like it. The picture is poor - sorry.

nice Amy

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I planted cosmos with other things too. The ones in the ground are 1/4 the size of the one in the container which must have hit a nice patch of compost.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

My cosmos (in a container) are blooming! ^_^

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

They can surprise you sometimes

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)
