LOL Karen.. have you already forgotten how the Jacksonville dgers went NUTS over your jelly?? BTW.. I never did get over to get my jar... so I want to put my order in early!!

Hey, where is the canning class??? I've got three old pears tree heavy with fruit, need to get to them before the squirrels do. Have any recipes to share for pears?

Dang the heat, it's melting my brain, I had to look up how to spell "squirrels":0)

want kind of recipes do ya want I have one for a pear pie that is yummy but then you can make up the filling and freeze or can it.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Shoot, Beck! I'm so sorry I missed you on the jelly!!! I will make it up to you in October...Cocoa I can tell you how to can the pears, but you can freeze them also until you are ready to work with them. If you need any help just Dmail me :)

Oh please. I need bulk (canning or freezing recipes) I don't know the variety, they came with the house:0) They have a really firm flesh. I've tried some tarts and pies with these but there not as good as when I use a soft pear. I should probably ask for ideas in the canning and freezing forum so everyone can benefit. Unless those are a secret family recipes ( feel free to D-mail me those, lol)

okey dokey, placed my pear plea here :0) http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/876208/

Yum...I have that recipe too Phyllis, for country pear pie! It's delicious! I looked around DG's canning forum but it seemed like a really slow forum...I might check it out again.

I used to do alot of canning, freezing, jellies, jams, preserves, apple butter, dry fruit and make roll ups for the kids, with everyone growing up and moving on I haven't done it as much miss doing it though made some great gifts for Christmas time.
will just have to see how the garden grows...don't think the peach trees are going to amount to much this year we didn't prune them back much being our first year here and wanted to give them a chance to breath with the bamboo gone.

Ya'll should check out her "class" on the group trade forum. She was talking about it on the mixed seed thread, and everyone went nuts wanting her to do the class. They are having a ball.

I'm with Eyes, Karen, bring it on. Oh and jam too. Do you ever make it sugar free?

I used to can everything in site too. People had to stand guard over their trees and gardens. Didn't think I'd ever want to do it again, but after tasting the salsa, I'm not so sure anymore. May have to. BUT, if you bring it to trade, I won't have to!!!

DMD....That Salsa will be a big hit for trades!!

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

mmmm me thinks we might turn it into a plant/food trade ...hahahaha

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Sounds cool to me. I can see it now, going to a plant trade and everyone brings canned stuff to trade. No plants there at all, just people sitting around with jars of food. lol
