Boy you got that right Beck, this group just enables the heck out of you don't they? ROTFL!!!! I was thinking tonight if I don't get more to share by October I might just have to go buy things to share! My little garden is so pitiful compared to the variety and quantity that you all have to share, I don't feel like I'm carrying my end of the deal! I will think of something.....But OH this is so much fun. I don't like to keep bringing my health into my posts, but I do suffer from bad depression and have not had friends nor been active or out of the house in a very long time. I tend to just stay at the house and not communicate much with others. Joining this group has gotten me out, and gotten me excited, I feel better than I have in years. Thank you all, for helping me get a little fun out of life again! Love you all!
East Texas RU Group Weekly Chatter 7/6 - 7/13
Karen I understand you r feelings as far as not having much to share ...I've been dealing with that myself for this last year but ya know what the day will come when you can return the gift to someone new or have something someone else lost or wants and will be able to share it.
OMG it will be a year come Thursday that I hit Texas...time sure has flown by fast..and If I hadn't joined DG last August I would still be sitting here at home with a barren yard wondering who to talk to and what to do.
mm Emma you are tempting me and I am wondering what to companion plant with the roses on the arch way...that won't choke out the climbers.
I moved the arch way out back along with 13 rose bushes to make a nice lil area for roses to spread out from there with plants...it just dawned on me not thinking about it but when my niece was here and we went to get roses my daughter had mentioned that if things were going to get crazy with planning a wedding they might just get married in the back yard......no date set yet or planning but dang guess I better start thinking more on what else to put out there and find some wonder grass to put out too so it isn't all brown ground LOL so we are prepared just in case.
....ahhhhhhhhh
Phyllis why don't you go with us Wednesday! The more the merrier. I know you have been to both places recently, but what the heck!
Howdy Emma.... now don't you get all excited giving all your lovelies new homes... and forget about that ONE lil square inch that we MIGHT have gotten ONE MORE plant in when we left your house!!!..LOL.. Girls I wish you could have seen my lil car.. loaded with barely breathing room left!!! Ty sooo much Emma.. you are a true gem.. they just don't make them like you anymore!!
Karen.. been there on the depression, and I do feel for you!! I do agree you are in the best place here on DG and everyone will enable you to get up and out and forget about that ol depression!! Jacksonville was my 2nd RU and some told me that I had way more than I thought I did... to offer the natives I had.. and be surprised how many wanted them!! They were right, cause I had a bunch at the Central RU... you will be surprised what all dger's are looking for, and like me be thinking..they want THAT ol thing??? hehe
Hey Becky . . .
You are so very welcome . . .
I feel great that I am able to share all of these plants that I have enjoyed for so many years with all of you. Just time to move on with more new plants that I want to grow.
You know, I'll betcha we could have gotten more plants in your car *ha*
Hey, you did get that huge Black and Blue Salvia in. You should have gotten an award for that!
I enjoyed visiting with you and Lyle very much and am looking forward to when we can get away and come to visit you. That will be great fun.
Emma
No work for tomorrow so ............
OK gals that are coming here , send me a D-mail so that I can give you directions and my cell phone #. Also give me an idea on the time you are coming. This should be a fun time.
I have never visited Emma without bringing home something to plant. It is like going to an exotic nursery with so many things growing there. Guess tomorrow will not be different than usual.
Wish we could get a little rain so things would perk up a little. Some of my things are really suffering.
DD
Y'all leave poor old Emma with something....LOL..go for the wisteria.

Hello you you lovely East Texans. I've had company the last few days and just now getting back to DG. ((((missed ya))))
Heavinscent, I believe the red cups marked raspberry and lavender are the Salvia greggii cuttings you asked for. They can take full sun to shade, only thy bloom better in sun. Your not the first to ask, so I think I must not have labeled them, sorry for the confusion.
I just received this in an email and just HAD to share it here...not meant towards anyone just thought we could use a good laugh to start the day.
Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. -
Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.
This is how it manifests:
I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway,
I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.
As I start toward the garage,
I notice mail on the porch table that
I brought up from the mail box earlier.
I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys on the table,
put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table,
and notice that the can is full.
So, I decide to put the bills back
on the table and take out the garbage first.
But then I think,
since I'm going to be near the mailbox
when I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.
I take my check book off the table,
and see that there is only one check left.
My extra checks are in my desk in the study,
so I go inside the house to my desk where
I find the can of Coke I'd been drinking.
I'm going to look for my checks,
but first I need to push the Coke aside
so that I don't accidentally knock it over.
The Coke is getting warm,
and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.
As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke,
a vase of flowers on the counter
catches my eye--they need water.
I put the Coke on the counter and
discover my reading glasses that
I've been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk,
but first I'm going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter,
fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.
I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,
I'll be looking for the remote,
but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table,
so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs,
but first I'll water the flowers.
I pour some water in the flowers,
but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.
So, I set the remote back on the table,
get some towels and wipe up the spill.
Then, I head down the hall trying to
remember what I was planning to do.
At the end of the day:
the car isn't washed
the bills aren't paid
there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter
the flowers don't have enough water,
there is still only 1 check in my check book,
I can't find the remote,
I can't find my glasses,
and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,
I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day,
and, I'm really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem,
and I'll try to get some help for it,
but first I'll check my e-mail....
Do me a favor.
Forward this message to everyone you know,
because I don't remember who the hell I've sent it to.
Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming
Yeah.......like every day....

Phyllis.. I am 3x AAADD!!.. but you already knew that..lol
Maggie... do ya'll advertise it on the sticky for TX happenings?? Do ya'll camp or what? That sounds like what I am wanting to do so I can have a lil time to get to know everybody!!

Hey guys. I live in Rusk. I just recently joined DG and have mostly been lurking. I've been reading the J'ville RU posts and looking at pics. Looks like you guys are having a blast. Any room for someone new in the group? I want to come to the Oct. RU. I am trying to get some things potted up and am learning to start things from cuttings.
I've heard of DG forever. Have been a member of GW for years. When I read on here that Dave lives in Jacksonville it was more exciting that hearing that Patrick Dempsey lives on Lake Jacksonville. LOL. Everyone has their priorities in life!
Hey Merianna, welcome! Of course there is room for you! How exciting that you're coming to the October RU!! I just joined about a month ago and it seems like I've been here forever. You just won't meet a nicer group of people. Glad you're here, Karen :)
Thank you, Phyllis. Someone else is an early riser. I would love to do that some time. Not many people want to hear someone talk about gardening all the time. I think about it constantly but my yard doesn't reflect my obsession. There is a big difference between knowing and doing.
Welcome merianna -
We will look forward to meeting you at the RU, if not sooner.
If you are interested in getting involved with our Cherokee County Master Gardeners Assn. let me know and I'll put you in contact with Joe Daniel. Dave is also involved with our CCMG group as well. Super nice guy!
Emma
Welcome marianna!!
I just joined in March myself.. and this is like my 2nd home!! You will sooo enjoy the RU's... meeting the people that share their plants with you is the best!.. and there is someone always willing to share their experience with you!! Glad you have joined us!!
Becky
Thanks everyone for your warm welcome. I am trying to read up on all of the ins and outs of using DG. Using the journal and plantfiles, etc. Fun, fun.
EmmaGrace, I have always planned to join a MG group someday. I will have to check into it. A few years back, I checked into the Smith Co. MG but my work schedule didn't allow me to participate.
Mary
Hi Mary,
I will d-mail you Joe's phone number so you can check with him when the next classes start. Hopefully it will fit into you schedule.
Emma
Thank you David and Emma for all the great flowers you gave to me! I am sorry I wasn't feeling well and didn't stay long. It's just so darn HOT out now! I'm proud to have seen your beautiful yards, they are true labors of love. Thanks again, Love Karen :)
p.s. Lorraine and Pam I really enjoyed spending time with you too, just wish it wasn't so miserable outside....It was great to see you!
Sooo....Pam.......did ya have to tye Lorraine to the top of the car again??
"eyes"
Almost, but we found room for her inside. Both David and Emma Grace have so many beautiful things that they shared with us. I want somebody or bodies to come to my house and get some things. The tigers are just about finished blooming, so they will be ready to thin soon and there's alot more stuff, cannas, day lilies, vines, etc. here also. I also have a couple of varieties of Asian and Oriental pear tress that you people who can root anything are welcome to cuttings. No telling what else we might find when we start looking. I'm not very good at getting things to root, but want to try some air layering. So, if anyone is up for a road trip, LMK and we can make plans. I'm about two miles off Hwy 271 between Gladewater and Gilmer. In case you don't remember, I was the ine in the big lime green shirt. LOL
Well, shoot, Pam.....I can only do one more down that way, and was thinking on October.......jeeze.....I'd sure love to help you clean out those tiger lilies and day lilies....
"eyes"
I'll save you some of both and bring in Oct.
Fantastic places they have there aren't they.....is worth the trip even if you didn't get plants.
Thanks Pam......I'll just have to wait until Oct. for my look see at Emma's and DD's ....till then it's off to pic land...
"eyes"
Ok, keep away from the tiger Lilies!!!! You have to wait until I stampede through it!!! lol
Emma and David, she beat me to thanking ya'll, but you know I'm psyco, so I've been out rubbing my hands together over all my plants. Poor Karen was not feeling well, so couldn't fight with me over stuff!!! And Pam will cut me down fast, besides she was driving.
Merriana, I can tell you, you will never find a better bunch of people than these guys. This is my first year to "really" garden and they have all loaded me down. I just can't wait till I can do the same thing!!! When Pam and I came home today, we had so many plants, they were everywhere. I still can't believe it.
Yes, David, I'm still "antsy" (He just couldn't think of another nice word for me)
Karen . . .
You are very welcome. Jerry and I enjoyed your visit very much. Hope you felt better once out of the heat.
Pam and Lorraine . . .
Also enjoyed your visit as well. Too bad it was so hot!
Hope you all enjoy your plants as much as I have.
Emma
Hey you guys! Where is everyone at? I miss ya'll, hee hee! I am feeling much better, it's that time of year that I just have to forgo working during the day outside and do it at almost dark. I just cannot take the heat at all. Boy it's hotter 'n heck, isn't it? I trained my flowers this year to only be watered every 2 days, and they are still doing great. Of course my new fledglings, I am watering daily. It's amazing how flowers become "adapted" to what you do. When you water every day they think they need it. I am experimenting this year to economize on my water usage.
Or inside napping, I just got up. merianna, that flower is beautiful.
Ok, Pam, I finally find you. Tried calling. Hmmmmmm, you have caller id , huh. "Oh no, it's that crazy woman again, talking my ears off" lol
It is so hot, but why are we even a little bit surprised.!!! You'd think we'd get used to it.
Forgot, Karen has a canning class thing going on cause the girls in the mixed seed group wanted to learn how. So, she's teaching them. They made salsa today and she gave me a jar when I saw her over at Davids.
I am telling you, it was the best I ever had. Hard for me to admit, cause I make a mean salsa.!!! It wasn't real hot, but that's how I like it, and you could add more peppers.
Anyway, that's what she needs to have at the RU in Oct. !!! So, if she offers it, grab it, and give her about a thousand flowers for it. That good!!
I got this hibiscus for Mother's day from my husband. He stopped at a plant sale at someone's home and bought 3 of these. I had told him I wanted hydrangeas for Mother's day. He got his H-plants mixed up. Not a gardener!
Worked out great, though, because my son and daughter-in-law gave me the 3 Endless Summer hydrangeas I had wanted.
Mary
Ohh both sound good to me merianna I like them both.
I've been around but busy working on the website for the group I have trying to get the graphics and coding fixed, then we went to the store so I am off now to make a kidney bean salad and will be back in a while.
LOL, Lorraine, it's funny you said that. I was just wondering this afternoon if I might exchange salsa for some flowers at the next RU. I am still a beginning gardener and just don't have much to share that anyone would want.....I was laughing earlier this week about I guess I'd have to go buy plants to trade at the RU, haha! What about it folks, is it tacky to trade canned stuff for plants?
