East Texas RU Group Weekly Chatter 7/6 - 7/13

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello all! I decided to start a weekly thread where those of us who attended the East Texas RU at Jacksonville can chatter all week and keep in touch without disturbing the rest of Texas threads. I have come to realize that we are enjoying keeping in touch and we are still posting on 3 or more different old threads for the RU which spreads us everywhere.

If ya'll would like, let's use this thread to chatter and I will start a new thread each Sunday for us. Hope this will be a helpful gathering place for us to have a cuppa joe or a cold drink and enjoy chatting! Love to all, Karen

I can't believe it but I am already getting excited to see you all again at our October RU! I hope we can visit more at this one and enjoy the company as well as the plants..Time just went by too fast. And, it will be cooler too at the next one.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

DdeTex, I will be in Jacksonville on Wednesday, and going by Emmagrace's with Lorraine also. Would that be a convenient day to come by your place? Let me know if so, and you can Dmail me directions.

Gilmer, TX

Hey Karen, This is great, so much better than jumping around to all the threads. Look forward to seeing you Wednesday. Pam

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

(Maggi) Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey All!

We have been planting.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

TY for the dmail....Karen...

Lorraine... since you and Pam and Karen are all going to Emma's and Davids.. just make sure you save me1 or 2 plants for the fall RU... oh... is the RU going to be in October?? just trying to count my chickens before they hatch..lol fall..
Yeah eyes... the fall will be sooo much cooler... for us and the plants.. even though it wasn't that bad last weekend.. is

Maggie.. I know the feeling.. and we are turning around and planting more corn and tomatoes on top of everything else..

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

I went ahead and put all my things in the ground from the RU. The only things I'm really having to watch are my Brugs from Ken and Maggie. Those little darlings wilt really easily without constant watering but they are holding their own. I already had a large empty bed, and I put the Brugs in it as well as the Daturas I got. Yes, we are having an RU in Jacksonville in October as far as I know, so start planning!

Tyler, TX

Thanks for starting this thread, I was having trouble keeping up with everything. Did you plant your brugs in sun or shade? I'm a little undecided on where to put mine.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Don't brugs need a little shade? Or at least not full sun?
I got some from Maggie and Ken too and they are doing good, but do get droopy from the heat, and if things would quit trying to eat them.!!!
And Beck, I intend to clear her whole yard out. Won't be anything but holes in the ground left when we leave.!!!

Gilmer, TX

Karen, What time are you planning to be there? Thought we would leave around 8:30 or 9:00 or whenever Lorraine can get here. We're stopping by Hughes for 3B on the way down. It will be nice to sit and visit, we didn't get to do enough of that at the RU.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, they are in a bed that is shady through the afternoon and then gets lots of sun in the late day. I've had moonflowers there in the past that did fine, so I'm hoping for the best. I really have no where else to put them but full shade.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Pam just let me know...I only live 15 miles (equals about 15 minutes) from Jacksonville and can meet you anytime! Lorraine has my phone number, I told her to call me and give me a good time to meet you. We'll plan from there. I need directions to Emma's and I can just meet you there :) I can't wait! I hope to hear from DdeTex too and hopefully we can visit his place too. We'll make field trip day out of it! Haven't had one of those since high school! (and no, I won't tell you when that was!, hehe)

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

More greedy guts..LOL.... I know the feeling... wish I was there with ya'll..

But Ms Lorraine.. I have already warned sweet Emma about you.. and asked her to NOT give you all the plants!! nanananana!!!!..hehehehehe

Anyway... asked Jerry..Emma's DH about the rocks they got at Davids.. been there done that..lol and ask Jerry to tell ya'll about the rocks he and Emma brought back from Canada!!! I LOL soooo hard I was crying!! They both are great people.. ya'll will have a ball!! Have FUN!!

OH..on the brugs... when ya'll get them acclimated.. they need full sun!!

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

OK guys, Wed. looks good for right now. I am retired but do some consulting work for schools when needed. I am in contact with a school now that wants me for a few days but have not scheduled the days yet. Will let you know as soon as I know.
It may be good to come here first as I am an early riser as opposed to Emma. We can then go to Emma's and I can show you the way. I had my septic tank pumped and the yard is a bit of a mess. This no rain has things looking a bit dried out too. Look forward to having ya'll come visit.
Will let you know about Wed. for sure soon. I will D-mail my cell # so you can get directions.
DD

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello there ETX bunch! Hated that I didn't have a chance to visit more. Hope to attend the Oct RU for sure. This time I will get a room in Tyler or somewhere so I can get there early!
I posted a lot of pictures out on my diary / blog, just click on my ID and view my diary. My DH took them.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

OOO........Pam, snag me some of DD's MG seeds too, if ya can. The ones on his driveway. The rest I will wait for when you and I do out midnight raid of the goodies......LOL...just kidding....maybe.

"eyes"

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Eyes- my driveway MG are the perinnial type and do not set seeds. I have plenty and so does Emma, so we will not run out of rooted starts.

SheliaFW- Hated to not get to know you as I have read many of your post. You might want to think about staying in Jacksonville in Oct. There is a newer Best Western and a Holiday Inn Express here as others. This will save you the 25 miles or so drive. Let me know and you may just get an invite for dinner that night. :) if wife will cook up something.

Have not heard from the school yet and hope that things work for Wed. for those coming here.
DD

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Sheila...I can vouch for the Best Western. We enjoyed our night there.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey 'eyes' . . .

I have enough of the Morning Glory rooted plants like David has on his drive to cover all of Jacksonville. These are Blue Dawn Ipomoea indica. One area I am totally cleaning them out so my Ipomoea panduratas will have enought room to grow - so no worries *-*

Emma

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks Emma....Pam, if you would, grab your old buddy some good starts of those and send them to me....I' ll mail ya a check...BTW...I'm looking into a small Wholesale Daylily order...will get back to you on that....see what you started. Love you each and everyone...speaking of daylilies, I need to d-mail you, Trishann.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

I asked on the main Texas page, but wanted to ask if any of my East Texas buddies had some Pampas Grass? Still looking to cover the view of that darned highway and block some of the trash that floats all over my yard every night.

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Emma is the idea of the gang coming here first OK with you. Thought since I am up at dawn and you are up in the wee hours, it would work out well.
See you Wednesday.
D
Still do not have all my goodies planted since it is so hot and dry. I have them potted up and in the ICU area until later.

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Hello everyone!

Maggie & Ken, you gave me 2 plants in red plastic cups one labeled lavendar and the other rasberry. Do you remember what kind of plants they are? Im not sure where to plant them.
Thanks!
Caren

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

David -
Sure that is great!

I got a head-start today potting up bunches of plants for them.
I do believe these plants must multiply during the night around here...lol

Also - I have some Variegated MGs potted up for you.

Emma

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

*giggles* and here I am sitting back taking this all in and picturing all of this going on weds...like lil kids in a candy store. lol

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey Phyllis . . .

You are so right. Like I told you this is so much fun because I have met all of these great people that are cleaning out my back flower beds for me...lol
You can come help us, you know!

Emma

Winnsboro, TX

Well I've already done my share of harvesting plants from Miss Emma Grace and Jerry. Just couldn't find the energy to dig to China and get the huge Wisteria that I wanted ever so badly. (frown)

You guys will have a ball over there. The beds they are working on in the front are out of this world. Very pretty designs and lots of curb appeal. Maybe that should be lots of curves appeal. LOL

Wonderful folks, and once again we were in a rush to visit and get plants from them this past week.

I can't wait until the October R U to do it all again. That was one of the wildest things I've done in years. Only this time I will have names with plants already seperated and bagged and ready to give to the person wanting them. I was like a duck out of water at the last get together.

I'm still planting flowers I got from everyone. The cannas, bananas, and elephant ears are all planted. I can't wait for them to start growing and multiplying. (smile) This old farm just might look like a Tropical Paradies sometime before I kick the bucket. LOL Let's just say it's well on it's way Thanks to so many of you for all the wonderful plants you each shared with me. Some of the plants I have I don't even know where they came from LOL.

Happy Gardening, Marian

Thanks for inviting me to this link darkmoondreamer, and it's wonderful to see all of you here posting. I can't keep up with all that other stuff. If anyone has something they really want me to know about I would suggest that you send me a dmail. LOL I never can find my way back to the same post twice.

Love Ya all and had a ball in Jacksonville.

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

LOL Marian! I was wondering how you were going to dig that up!
My Bauhinia from Emma's yard is really pouting! She dropped all her leaves but the stems are still green. Im sure it will pull thru! Thank you again Emma and also for sending my Friskers!! I got them today a have already put them to good use.
So when is that fall RU going to be??
Take Care!!
Caren

Tyler, TX

I guess I have to set a personal goal for myself before the fall roundup...I have to have everything planted that I brought home with me from the last one or I can't go! That should get me started.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Oh Emma the thought crossed my mind, but my gas tank says no and my daughter is going to be taking her car tomorrow sometime for an interview down in Huston and leaving her truck I hope *snickers* and when she does if time allows we are going to make a run or two for compost with it ...shhh don't tell her ... we will have it all cleaned up before she gets back and knows we even used it for compost

Shirley my offer still stands if ya need help

Marian I saw the wisteria and ya that is alot of diggin ....I bet I can find starts right here in my yard if you really want some but I will warn ya if you don't watch it is will run all over LOL

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Phyllis.. I'M TELLING....LOL

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Beck go ahead ...what's her name???? where does she live and what is her number or addy???? Þ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ROFLMAO

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

I can't believe I'm still planting stuff from the RU and can't wait to get to Emmas and get some more.!!! I think that's called an addiction for sure. Gotta have at least one of everything!!
I'm with you Marian, I'll be calmed down some by the next one and do it up right. Then again, ....... lol

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Humph!! I have my ways.... la de da!!! nanananana!!! hehehehe
OH.... and tongue back atcha!!!!!!!..LOL... you know I luv ya!!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Lorraine... I can understand... the addiction is any plant you don't own yet..LOL

I am hoping one day soon I will have some neat plants to share with all the sweet people I have met through the 2 RU's I have been to!! I also want to plan on going to Josephine's... (frostweed ) RU in Arlington, in October too!! I need to go ahead and start potting up stuff so the plants wil be "perky" when it is time to trade!! Since the last RU seems like I have been planting some and then turning right around and reusing the pots for cuttings..lol... I just can't win... but am having the time of my life!!

TY to all you enablers out there!!

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

Marian . . .
Thank you for the compliment
Hey, Jerry is blasting the soil away from the Wisteria down 2' or so and is going to 'try' to pull it out with his truck. If he doesn't have luck then at least we will have dug down deep enough to cut it far under the soil [if that makes a difference] so we can throw it out.

Phyllis . . .
You sneaky person -
You may run into Jerry. He is going for another load of compost tomorrow for the final part of the front bed that we just cleaned out today - which means more plants that were also dug up and now in the stash for everyone coming Wed.

Caren . . .
You are very welcome -
Gosh, I sure do hope your Bauhinia makes it.
Can't wait to see the blooms.
For sure, I will never see them on my huge one - not in this zone - but I just love the leaves.
We can always dig that one up for you this fall - gotta be easier than the Wisteria and at least you can enjoy the blooms.

Emma
