For those who raise DUCKS. I have a question

Gate (Rochester), WA(Zone 7b)

Sure worth a try. Better than some of the alternatives. Gonna have to check into that. I like my shoulder too much & getting tired of just yelling.

Love the river, but that's what brings the critters......

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

speasking of DUCKSSSSS>>>> ducklings that is.... any breed, 500 need a home, the chicken fairy is calling!!!

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

OK, my duck quesiton. i am ordering 25 from Ideal, since they had an overhatch that makes them as cheap as most chickens...

please tell me what to order. and can they eat game bird starter crumble?

I wish I wish I wish I had my system set up I would LOVE some ducks. Question can they fly and run fast to get away from a GP dog. i would really love to have some in my REAL fish pond, I have 2 ponds and the GP dogs run free to both.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

call... call.. call... buy them and then you will set it up....

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Patch....just an idea, but after you get your camper set up to where you think it is safe, before you actually put your keets in there, I would give it a safe run through. Like say with cheap chicken leg quarters or backs or something.....see if they draw the coons or other varmits you might get. It might be a really good way to see what can get in and where and then you wouldn't really lose anything. I don't know how your camper is set up, but we had coons coming in from under it. They would come in from under the toilet, shower surround, from underneath storage that had cabinet you could access from the inside and they would come in from under the sink, stove area. It just seems like they can fit into a small space and then use their strength and paws to work out enough space to get through about wherever they want. We have been very lucky.....with 4 dogs around we haven't seen a coon this year around here. Thank goodness!

Tf........are you going to eat them, what kind do they have, what kind are popular in your area, what might sell the best?

Christy

Novinger, MO(Zone 5b)

ummm nope not me on the ducks this round......... : (

Foley, MO

Good idea with the chicken bait, I'll give that a try when I set up my camper next spring : ) I agree, those raccoons can be determined little buggers!

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

Yes they can eat either game starter or chick starter. It's all the same to them! But they need lots of fresh greens too and tons of water changed every few hours cause they're real piggys. Darlings but piggys. Breeds depend on what you want them for. Eating or eggs. My Cayugas are good for both if you don't mind black shells on your eggs. Rouens are suppose to be fantastic for eating.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

I love eating the duck eggs and cooking duck. I might cave in this fall, DO you think If I got some in sept they would be ready for Christmas dinner.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

getting 10 rouen, 5 each of khaki cmapbell, buffs, fawn/white runners... crested or not...

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

No Cayugas! I'm devastated :-( Quick call them back and tell them you need 5 Cayugas desperately!

MollyD

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

they said the cayugas are black. afraid our climate is too hot for them...

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

If you want more ducks the rouens are perfect. Mine filled one nest and the silkies took it, then she laid and hatched 16 more, now she is on her third nest with annother dozen or so eggs. I had no idea that she had annother nest. She dissapeared around the 4 of July. I had finialy given her up for dead and she popped out of my flowerbed to grab something to eat. They should be hatching around the first or August.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

cool.... so i guess the only way i will get the blue swedes is if someone tells me not to get the buffs or the others...

londonderry, Australia
