Forum for Old Timers

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Dave, we were wondering a few of us, if you could make a forum for "old DG friends", a place where we could meet. With so many forums, and everything going regional, some of us have a hard time keeping up with each other, and frankly...we miss it. Not an elite group or anything like that , just a place to pause, and cherish those old friendships.

I think the General Discussion or Parking Lot forums are there for that reason--people can stop in there and chat about whatever, doesn't have to be gardening related. I'd probably pick one of those and start some threads, then people can drop in whenever they have time and catch up, and maybe you'll make some new friends along the way too! Both forums are subscriber only, but the parking lot is even more private since it doesn't show up at all for non-subscribers (vs general discussion they can read the first post in each thread just as they can in the majority of forums)

Yes, Dave, please. Pam

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Neither one of those quite work, it's just hard to weed through so much conversation, and I don't mean that to offend anyone. There is just so much to read, and not enough time to get through it all.

Liz, yes there are those forum but I have to agree with eyes on this one. It would be nice to have a forum for members that where here in the early days as a way to catch up. Eyes contacted me the other day and didn't know I was still on DG and I didn't know she was either. With so many forums now I agree it would be nice to have an Old timers forum as she put it or a reunion forum. In no means would it be limited to just old timers all would be welcome but a nice place to get in touch with old friends we didn't know where still here and to let new folks hear some of the stories from the old days. Darius did an article recently on the first RU and it brought back so many memories I think all members old or new would like to see more of those first memories brought back as well.

Hey Mystic, good to see you. I've missed seeing some of the old names around, Hope we can make a go of this.

south central, WI(Zone 5a)

Hi, voting "yes" also. I "think" I mentioned it to Mystic a long time ago, and to "eyes" recently. I was following in the the 2 mentioned for various things, but got lost in the #'s.;esp. if I missed out for a few days, or forgot who had been doing what. This is just a thing with me..my family is getting used to it. :)
If this doesn't work, would make the effort to attend " meeting" in the Parking Lot. I do check a few places regularly- but when I tried to follow threads,(repeating)..I did get lost; esp if didn't feel like coming down to computer and it is hard to catch up with so many folk over the long length that some threads can travel in a day...hope that makes sense.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I agree too. I would love to have a forum like that.

Marcia, are you keeping up with the Janet Evonovich novels?

south central, WI(Zone 5a)

Hi, yes I am, although I have put myself on the library list for this last one. This is why I want to get together. :)

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Yeah, we have all kind of lost tract of each other. A friend of mine bought book number 14 and I read it while we were on the road to Rochester. It's a good read, but not one of her better books.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Exactly our point, Dave.

Joan..didn't really like the last one, so saved $$/..glad I did!
If you all want to see what I have been up to (actually not much) but check in on Daylily forum..my first very own seedling bloom. :)
Yep..need it to share news with folks who knew me before I had to cut my daily life a Lot.

Crossville, TN

Count me in...I'm an oldie....and I do miss seeing some of the others that were here "way back when".

Eyes...I do see you post some...I'm usually in the Southwest Forum now....and I have met some nice people there...but I do miss running into my old buddies.

Mystic...hows the grandbaby?

Dave...pretty please....Jo

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Howdy folks sure good to see. Hi Pam good grief I haven't seen you forever either. Marcia I think of you every time I pick up the DG cookbook and remember adding the recipes for you. Jo the grandbaby is wonderful she keeps me hopping. She is at such a fun age but also when you can't turn your back on her for a second. She has no fear. lol She loves being outside and she planted her own seeds that's about the only gardening I got done this year except the veggie garden.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

I know Jo.........run into someone here and there, but don't want to take the thread off topic....and there are so many other individual interests that we have, so it really is hard to communicate like we use to. We really need our own space to "remember when".

So.....why not start a thread in the general discussion or parking lot forums, and invite your DG friends from years past to join in? If we see there's enough interest to sustain another forum, we'll be glad to see what we can do to accommodate it ;o)

Crossville, TN

Ok Eyes...You thought of it...you start it. Put a link here...Jo

Okay, in 24 hours, we have 74 members, 202 replies and 1.318 views. I believe we all have some interest. We would love it if dave, trish and Terry would join us. Call it The Five Year Club...or Old Timers.Club.

Yipee!! Thanks, Terry...Come on over and sit a spell ( or as we said in the old days...G0-vols)...Jo

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

So.... I've been there but am curious

is it for "old timers" like from the beginning of DG?

or is it "old timers" like... been there ~ done that?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Ummm, I think the intent is for longtime members of DG to have a place they can go and find their "old" (errr, longtime ago) DG pals. Nobody's checking IDs at the door or anything ;o)

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

I think someone mentioned "DG membership of 5 years or longer" which
seems perfect. I don't qualify but think it's great for that group to have a
forum of their very own where they already know one another well and can
reminisce and catch up with relationships that have lasted for years.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I've been a member that long, so I could probably slip in through the back window... but I was really only using the Watchdog for a couple of years, LOL... I've only been a subscriber for 3 1/2 years... I'm having fun lurking on that forum, though! :-)
