That's a cool link! I never knew most of those things...how neat. Yep,Jer's real interested in the animal style fries also. Thanks, Sue.
K, you know it's not that far over to the Hwy 76 In N Out...I'm sure John needs well, something, lol....from Lowe's or HD. I grew up going to The River also...so glad I'm old enough to have enjoyed it before thousands more people showed up.
Okay, you people are just no fun!
Ok, I came in for a little, I'm hot and the ham I had with the eggs this morning gave DH and I stomach aches, so I think I'll wait for it to pass and cool down again before heading back out.
How about a few pictures from last weekend when we went up 4 wheeling in the Sierras by Carson Pass and Tahoe?
Over looking a valley in the Eldorado National Forest, the haze from smoke is apparent.
Nice view, Sue! Talked to my mom in OR yesterday and she said they are getting the haze from the fires in Eugene.
DH and I went out after pancakes (it's Sunday) and trimmed the Chitalpa trees; much more sedate activity for after breakfast. :-)
Those poor trees - well, some of them are bushes. We knew nothing about trees when we planted them, and they are multi-branched, so now some of them are a real mess. We know a LITTLE bit about pruning them now, so we're shaping them a little at a time. They grow so fast this time of year and the branches were on the ground. I'm looking at one as I type, swaying in the breeze with all her pink blossoms. We love these trees.
Hi you guys! So fun to see you all check in and finding out what everyone is up to.
My granddaughter is visiting from Boulder. She's 13 and we are really enjoying her a lot. On the 4th we went to dinner at California Pizza Kitchen - it was a desert. Only a few other people there. Then we went to the daughter's for fireworks. She lives in one of the only places where it's still legal.
I did patrol duty this week making sure that plants weren't being overcome by groundcover etc. and sprayed Messenger. The daylilies and asiatic lilies are blooming and the dahlias are starting to get beautiful. The hostas are blooming too and I always enjoy them.
Looks like a good trip Sue. Oregon is so beautiful.
It’s nice to see what the Californians are up to! We’ve been working on a second above-ground pond, and now I’m just hiding out from the heat. I’ve definitely learned some interesting things about In N Out burger on this thread. LOL. I used to live next to one in Mountain View, and had no idea about the secret menu or the Bible references. Beautiful pics, Sue.

Ho Doss, not Oregon, eastern Sierra off hwy 88 going towards carson City, Nevada.
Keep cool everyone, the heat is on again!!
LOL, I was confused, too, Sue. It was the reference to Crater Lake - I didn't know there was one in California! I should have read more carefully rather than just look at the very pretty pictures. :-)
I was thinking that Crater Lake sure had shrank a lot and gotten a lot less blue since the last time I saw it! LOL And I was surprised not to see snow on the mtns too, I was there (the real Crater Lake) in August one year and there was still a little snow on the ground, and definitely in the surrounding mountains you could still see snow on the tops.
Beautiful pics Sue - I especially love the one of you crouching in the flowers!
Wow ! What a fantastic time you must've had! Love penstemon and lupines.... Do lupines grow too rampant to have them in your yards?? I had them back in OR and adored them.
I don't know what would happen if you irrigate them a lot or if you have the "garden variety" lupines that I remember my mom growing back in the midwest, but if you have the California native lupines and you don't water them a ton they behave very nicely.
Thanks for sharing your adventure with us Sue. I haven't been out in the wilderness for a long time now and it's so fun to see where you were.
We take lots of outdoor adventures, mostly in our Jeep Wrangler now, we bought it over a year ago. We go on fire roads and 4 wheel drive trails here in Calif. and in Nevada, so much to explore; historic towns, old mines, etc. are our favorites.
Last year when we were hiking more (out of shape now, need to pick that up again!), we stopped along a ridge on our drive home up by Grant's Park out on that road to Mt. Hamilton and saw a mountain lion on the next ridge over. A week later, we were hiking in the mountains behind Woodside and a mountain lion crossed our trail about 50 ft in front of us, a little too close for comfort! I sure walked fast after that, looking over my shoulder for at least a mile. What are the odds, two in one week?!! Eeekkk.
We have come across bobcats a couple of times too, one while riding bikes in a park in Livermore, we stopped and watched him for about 5 minutes, that was cool!
I'm glad y'all woke uo!LOL, I was goin'ta offer my Bailey's, but I see somebody already did!!
Audrey
I remember arriving at my brother's place for a visit once - he had just trapped a bobcat and it was waiting in the cage for relocation. I would not want to be within a mile of one of those. Gives me shivers...
OTOH, went to the other brother's house a different time and ended up visiting a herd of buffalo. That was cool. Much calmer and slower creatures!
Edited to add: Beautiful photo!

K, don't know how close it is as 'the crow flies' from our house to yours, but we've had bobcats here.
edited to add that when I go to Temecula, I take Rainbow Canyon and twice now I've had what I assume to be the same bobcat cross the road in front of me just before the golf course. I wouldn't be surprised to see them in your area also. We had a mountain lion in town last year killing off cats.

yep, all over California, that's their territory.
Oh, yuk. Ever seen one mad? I guess having seen one scared and mad, spitting and clawing, just left me with a certain picture in my mind. I know my brothers always dreaded them coming around (near Yosemite) and recently big bro lost a favored cat. The only time he's ever taken his gun out after something. :-( I do hear screeching sometimes, but I think it's a feral cat, though I haven't seen one for a long time - too many coyotes around here for them to last long. Don't think I'll be making trips to the compost heap in the dark.
Okay, I was told yesterday that Carl's also does a burger without the bun. That doesn't show up on their menu either. Never knew that and glad to hear it since we have a Carl's in town, but no In N Out here. Wonder if they'll do their new Prime Rib burger on lettuce too? Hmmmmm....
Several years ago, I lived in a suburb of Birmingham, Ala. I looked out my window one morning and there sat a Bobcat, right by my wellhouse! Beautiful! If I had only had a digital camera, but they didn't make them then!
It must be my age and growing up with the burger and fries culture 'cause I'm MUCH happier doing that than staying home and cooking decent food...lol....I miss Bob's Big Boy and their hot fudge sundaes and fries with bleu cheese dressing and mocha coffee. We lived close to one in HS and did our homework there most nights...said we were at the library,of course.
I prefer to see them somewhere a little ways away from our house, thank you. Actually, the bobcats don't worry me, but the lions do.
