A Visit to LLilyfan's Lily Garden!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I learn something new every day. That's a good way to controle your lily crop. It didn't occur to me to plant test lilies.
I don't have THAT much controle of where I plant lilies, I just imagine something tall amongst the other fluffy plants.

Well, it sounds good when I write it, and in theory those were my intentions, but my best plans have an interesting way of going awry for one reason or another! Even weeding has had to take a back seat to work and weather. This is what Wanda REALLY saw when she was down here, Bless her soul she would NEVER disclose the pitiful condition of my garden. You can't even find half of the lilies.

She has disgression and good taste.
I liked what I saw.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Honey, it still looks good. When we all have a paid gardeners THEN we can complain about the weeds!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Right on Moby

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

Thanks! I have been working my fat fanny off for the last 3 days..........finally told the boss I just can't work 6 days a week any more through the summer. She's mad, but she listened.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

You go girl!!!!!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Oh thank god Sue, I'm so glad you have weeds. I was beginning to get a complex! :) Even looking through errant weed or two your gardens are still pretty spectacular! And you know what you end up with when you work your fingers to the bone? Bony fingers, that's all. LOL

Diann

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

Diann, are you thankful I asked for the time off finally..... that I have all those weeds,
or BOTH! LOL

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

Sue, are your weeds under cover? I didn't see anything like what I dealt with earlier and the dang quack grass has the nerve to come up again.
Monday, plan on going out with a small spray bottle and give them a shot of wake up, hopefully they will go to weed heaven, or where ever weeds go.

Anyone want to borrow a couple Black walnut trees ? I have them coming up all over! Worst weed there is!

Nice garden, Sue, weeds & all.

Sue,
Your gardens are great; we all fight the weeds, especially this year. You are so humble . . . your gardens are great. We don't look for weeds . . just your beautiful blooms. And I will probably have to give you back a Black Label.

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

Thanks Arlene, after 3 days off from work my gardens are almost respectable! Yes, I know we all fight weeds, but these were quite out of control.

Thank you for the offer of a Black Label, I have lots, it is just that they didn't like sitting in totally saturated soil for 3 months this spring. One bloom each........but they will be better next year!

Now Bernie I'd take a Butternut tree, but will pass on the black Walnut, we have them here also, and a very fine crop of maple seedlings.

Maxine, the quack grass is a rampant thug isn't it! I have some trying to overtake my raised bed, couldn't even see the iris in that bed, got it all pulled out and yep it is making a fast return. Trust me I had weeds........

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Love your gardens, lilyfan - you did a great job with them!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Sue, both. :) LOL I"m glad you got your gardens under control, that is way more than is going to happen with mine this year. I figure by the time frost hits I'll have them whipped into shape. :)

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

' He who has a weedless garden,
has in there employment 4 full time gardeners
and a ton a Preen and Round Up at there beckon call "

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

I like the way you think Tazzy. :) LOL

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

I've got the Preen and Round-up, now about those 4 full time gardeners...................

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

I have a lady that comes for 3 hours a week; it helps but not enough.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

I have a lady that does weeding, but must be careful in the flowers. She is not sure which are flowers, which are weeds!

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

My lady is interested in gardening so that helps but I still have to teach a bit.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I was actually thinking more on the lines of Moby's Garden Hunk she always talks of hiring.
She said she'd rent him out too.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

About what? Raoul, the muscle bound gardener who works in a thong?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

OMG I thought you were talking about my cross dresser X.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Sounds like you gals have more fun weeding than I do!
No itsy-bitsy bikinis here.

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Hey Wanda
see what happens when you start a thread and disappear for days
" total mayhem "

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Looks like our trip to Llilyfan's garden took a detour into "Naked lady" territory... ;)

I have a gardener who comes in every day, works hard for no pay---ME!

And don't let llilyfan con you, she's got a heck of an eye for garden design & only a few weeds around...

Red & spotted & outfacing with a terrific shape--this lily has it all. I think Sue said she was using it to hybridize...

All Lillie's are clothed in glory and sunshine
and sue has some beautiful ones

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Yes, she does! Don't let her get modest on us now.

The iris were glorious this year, but the wet spring has made a mess of them. I have hurry & get my messy garden cleaned up --lots of iris to thin & dig-- before Sue comes on Friday.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Just a few more views of her lilies in bloom---
