Mid Summer - What's do you have blooming?
artemiss, thanks! I was surprised that the Monarda grew so tall this year -- I guess it's getting established after having been moved twice last year!
I just love everyone's pix. Isn't this just the best time of year?!
Very nice garden Catherine!
Hopefully you didn't get too much damage..I always worry about hail and wind destroying my plants when it gets bad out. :(
Love everyone's pix!
Catherine- Your garden is beautiful!
We just had a storm blow thru here about an hour ago. What a mess. Trees down. Branches everywhere. Broken pots & plants laying everywhere. So sad. :(
Becky
Very pretty Catherine! And so cottage gardeny!
Becky, I heard the storms were bad in your area. So sorry you have so much damage. I've seen pictures of your gardens... they are gorgeous. The storms are just about to hit here. They don't look too bad up in this area. I have family in Madison and looks like they are getting hit pretty hard also.
GayLynn
Catherine, I love your garden. Can I ask if that's rue with your pink lily? If it is do they do well together? I have some rue and after seeing your picture I thought maybe I could try that combination.
I didn't want to forget to ask and now I'm going to go back and check out more of everyones beautiful blooms : )
Oh no Becky... how awful. Another storm is brewing here now...
Aretemiss: .I always wait until the next day to survey damage....some plants seem to right themselves even after a hail storm. Crossing my fingers for this one
Stacey's Mom - thanks - cottage gardeny is what I'm aiming for. I told Stacey at a MWRU to stop and see me on her way to Peoria - I know she *flies* this way sometimes.
Neal - your gardens are such an inspiration to me...and many of the lilies are from the co-op you did magnificently this year. Thank YOU.
Its amazing that your gardens are really just 1 season old!
Yes, Meredith, that's Rue behind the tall lily but its actually in another bed. That bed has two lilies, roses, clematis, phlox, poppies and a bunch of other stuff in close proximity so it seems to be a fairly unfussy plant. I'll be dividing it next season and would be glad to send you some.
I've been weeding like mad the last month with all our rain...got a nice case of poison ivy for my trouble.

Beautiful Gardens Elizabeth Louise gets my vote for prettiest flower .^_^
Betty Lou says *thank you Gus*....grin
Beahive, I am in love with that coral daylily. I usually don't fall in love with daylilies that easy. : )
Gemini, What wonderful blooms in your gardens. : ) I also meant to tell you that I am going to try to save some seeds from that Malva. Can you believe I had started 2 different M. sylvestris cultivars from seed last year and planted at least 5 of each. The one in the photo is the only one that overwintered. Maybe they are only marginally hardy for me. Or maybe they just don't do well with snowy winters. We had the most snow we've had for over 100 years here last winter, so that could be a problem. lol
Thank you Catherine, I have a real lot of Rue already but it was so thoughtful of you to offer : ) I was trying to figure out what to plant in front of some lilies in a new bed and I like how they look in your garden. : )
I am still looking through all your wonderful photos and I have to agree elizabeth louise is a beauty!
Thanks, Catherine :-) I've been astounded by how fast the beds installed last year have matured. I love that shot of your shrub border, the view of the garden through the trees reminds me of 'The Secret Garden'- enchanting! My net connection is slow this morning, but I'm looking forward to looking at your pics!
Meredith, thank you! I've had the same deal with malva not returning, but still got several seedlings. I think they tend to be short lived anyway, but found it odd none of the originals overwintered even 1 year. Those verbena are such a rich color! The only ones I've had success with are Homestead Purple and V.bonariensis, others just don't seem to get very big.
I know this is late, but Cinda = I want your Cappuccino!!!! I tried to order it this last... fall? Sometime. And it was out. And you got it. *sniff*!
Gem, the purple one in my photo is supposed to be Glandularia canadensis. Supposedly it is hardier than the cultivar of it - Homestead Purple. I had Homestead purple once and it didn't overwinter. However it was a rough winter for most plants that year and it was planted very late in summer, because I got it on clearance. So I wanted to try out the straight species planted in spring, to see if it will overwinter. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I can't beleive how fast the V. bonariensis grows! The ones I planted are starting to get flowers, not enough for a photo or for butterflies to notice but still, I am so happy!
Here is a collage of flowers I have blooming this morning.
Beautiful collage!
Thank you figaro : )
love your color scheme Meredith *smile*....I do think pinks and purples look especially nice in northern climates...especially when the sun catches different parts of the garden. Would love to see a landscape shot of your garden.
Catherine
I wish I could say I am talented enough to have placed those all in the same garden. Unfortunately they aren't, rather they're scattered throughout different areas. I'm sorry too, because I would love to be able to post a full view. Thank you for the compliments : )
