Flowers in the Garden #2

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Oh, beef stew, delicious! I just came across a recipe for beef pot pie that uses cheese in the top crust, gonna try that sometime. I checked my finances and can't make it as soon as I had hoped, but one of these days you just might find me on your doorstep or more likely hangin round that fabulous gazebo above, especially in the eve with those colored lights.

I feel the same way Sue, we never have company other than our kids occasionally so there isn't really anyone to share our gardens with, but that is fine by me, I have all of you wonderful friends to exchange stories and photos with and Steve and I enjoy nothing better than our own company and a nice afternoon or evening admiring our hard work.

Dianne you can be quite proud of that naked lady. I understand they can be quite difficult to take care of and prosper.

Lovely naked lady Dianne. Hope you are having a wonderful time on holiday!

Sue, I love to visit your garden any day of the week, so when you post pictures of your plants and beautiful garden in Australia, I feel as though I'm there for a while!!!!!

This stunning Passion flower lives in my SIL's garden...

I love passiflora, Tasha has it growing in leeaps and bounds on the eastern shore and here I must bring it inside, So is it time to move where it is more tropical or what!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

This clematis gets humongous and blooms this late in the season.

Been busy cleaning decks and today got a lot of the hymenocallis up and washed and in a grocery bag until next season. Then dug the caladiums and the elephant ears and potted themn to bring inside in a couple weeks. Getting winter ready here dang!
here is the spread of the vigna caracalla and if you can see the corkscrew blooms, looks and smells fabulous darling!

I do so dislike seeing the vigna come to an end of season, wish I lived where it could thrive year round, any room at your place Sue???

Fabulous pictures darling!
You still have so much colour in your garden. The yellow Canna is beautiful, looking forward to the red? one next!!
love that red grass on your tropical Island, will you cut the pampass grass for indoors?
I don't know the name of your last flower either, but it sure is purdy!
Would love to see your pine trees sometime.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Terri, if you look on the right side of the photo of the tall miscanthus grass you can see some of the huge pines. We actually had 30+ feet removed from them this past spring and they are still 30+ in height. I remember when we first moved in I could decorate them for the holiday and I am just 5' tall, so you can tell I have been here a long time.

I don't do anything with the grasses except let them be until spring then cut back to the ground. I used to have one arrangement on the fireplace for a couple years that was a lot of the grasses and a lotus pod, but pitched it last year, Steve got tired of it and the grasses even when sprayed with hairspray do tend to shed over time.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Forgot that red grass is the japanese blood grass. I have some ready to send to karma in the next few days.

london England, United Kingdom

I know what you mean about the pampass grass, it does get a bit scraggy after a while!
Have you heard anything from Karma? Hope all is well with her and family.
Thanks for pointing out the pine trees, magnifico!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Yes karma is doing fine they fared well through Ike. I was holding the bloodgrass to first make sure it is acclimated well enough and then to wait for her to weather the storms.

That is GOOD news.

here you go, new thread.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Before we leave completely, the blue flower above, thanks to the ID forum is:

Physostegia virginiana - Obedient Plant, although in my estimation not so obedient as I would like!

Coffs Harbour, Australia

I meant to tell you that Candee. I have them in my garden too. They self seed everywhere, but I love them! At the moment they are just sprouting new leaves.

london England, United Kingdom

Pretty obedient plant!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

So here are the cannas finally.

Everything looks good!!!
The Cannas looks so magestic, beautiful red, and the leaves......ohhhh imagine what you could do with them!!!
The passie is pretty, love the twirly tendrils in arrangements LOL!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Thanks so much as always, brought the passi in tonight and had to cut a lot of tendrils as well as with the vigna caracalla as we are expecting a frost. Now all that is left to bring in are the dahlias and that will be very soon especially if we get that frost.

Forgot to ask, did you notice all the pines in the photos, that was the reason I took the pics so you could really see the pine trees hacked up!

Candee, your vigna looks lovely spilling out on the ground like that! Gorgeous.

Finally a picture of the bloodgrass Candee sent me. There are lots of new growth. So many new babies! Should I repot now? They are doing great in a mostly shaded area.

I was just gonna dmail you! Great minds. They look fabulous. I actually have mine in the sun, I believe they should be fine to plant right now rather than repot, unless you plan to keep them in pots which I doubt. Mine are still going strong on the island and they get sun at least 6 + hours a day. Others that I have had in mostly shade have not been as prosperous.
Give them a shot, I still have the last one in a pot here as not sure were to put it and time is running short, so if you have a failure can always send one more.

london England, United Kingdom

Loved the Pine trees, thanks for taking a pic especially for me! appreciate it lots.

Hi there Karma! lovely bloodgrass from Candee, aren't you the lucky one?!!

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Candee, most of my plants are in containers. . .so is the fate of the bloodgrass! I think I'll move one into more sun and see how it'll take. It's getting cooler down here anyway, so it will probably do okay. Terri, I feel like the luckiest person in the world to get this beautiful grass!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

I leave the grass out here it is hardy in our zone 6a so don't worry about it down there, it will be fine. Ours gets covered with snow and ice and comes back every year, please don't worry about just a pot!
Hi Terri, just popping in for a bit as we are heading for the cabin on Wednesday and just returned from Ohio this afternoon.

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Candee, Nice to see you back, even if it's only briefly. You must be exhausted!!! Enjoy the cabin and try to take some pics please.
I'm heading back to work tomorrow, been off for 2 weeks!! See you when I do and take care.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Not much but it is all I got, one little yellow echinacea that survived several frosts and now has several buds on it??? Go figure.

Hi Candee, The wonder of plants eh? It's lovely to see a few more flowers at the end of the season.
Thanks for showing this plant. I recognise the leaves! Mine didn't flower at the lottie last year so I dug it up and planted it in the garden at home this year, same again, leaves but no flowers!! as you say.... Go figure!
Maybe if I just leave it be next year it might flower for me. lol.
