Thank you Dianne, Terri - go and get those arrangements and move them to the cafe please, or I can do it if you would like me to?

Dianne, I can get the petites if I wear high enough heels LOL and do a little hemming. I thank goodness for the petal pushers as well! Just kidding, I haven't worn heels in years and now have moved mostly toward slacks and shirts. I have gotten a few pants from TravelSmith and their petites are about a 22" inseam and that works with a pair of shoes with a slight sole. I don't go out shopping as I really hate to shop so internet and catalogs are the way I go and sometime to the children section however I find that my "arses" don't quite want to fit in those trim little things!

Sue, I must tell you there are a lot of advantages - I am much closer to the ground and can pick your love Arctosis and nemesias much easier. I am still quite agile when it comes to hopping up on the kitchen counter to retrieve something from that higher shelf as well LOL! Folks at work kid me about being that 4' something that thinks she is 6'5". Look out!!!
Your iris makes me think that spring has just sprung again especially since we are just now getting some temps in the 80's with low humidity, kinda like a spring day!

Thanks Dianne, I don't usually put my flower club arrangements in the cafe. They are made to the National Association Flower Arranging Society (NAFAS) rules and regulations and are entered into the monthly themed competitions.
Lovely flowers Sue, Thanks.
Hi Candee, Go for it honey! Love your latest arrangement, maybe others will join us on the outside arrangements thread one of these days Lol!
Looking over the fence, my neighbours Phlox!

Ladies, I just browsed through here, and I have to say your gardens are beautiful. I've been fighting with mine for months now, and I'm talking about only 2 flower beds. All of your gardens look so put together and I don't see weeds anywhere. You must be very diligent in caring for them.

Sue, I love your succulent collection, including your displays of them. The stump pedestals are great! I've never seen nemesias before, is that an australian native? Very pretty.

Terri, what is that plant in the upper right part of your white phlox picture? Looks like some type of bamboo or japanese grass? Oh wait, that's your neighbor's, isn't it?

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Karma, not sure what that is! hang on and will go out in the rain for my df to see LoL! back in a min.

london England, United Kingdom

I'm back...... it's Crocosmia, past it's best!!

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Thank you Terri! I see it now. I hope you didn't get too wet out there!

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

HI Karma - no weeds in my garden is just an illusion. I take pictures of only the presentable parts of my garden LoL.
Terri - your neighbor's phlox is beautiful. That is one plant that I have not been successful in growing. And, it was fun looking at your flower club's arrangement. Thanks for updating that.

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Karma! it wasn't raining heavy but the way all the wet plants hang over the paths, I got wet legs!!

Hi Dianne, Eva's (next door) Phlox is rather nice! she gave me some of it one year, don't know what happened to it over this side!!!!!!!! My garden is looking quite colourful, but with the rain I haven't been out much to take any pictures lately!! It looks like it's brightening up so I may venture out there today.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

No rain today here, just thunder and lightening. Just a bit wet legs never hurt anybody Terri, quit whining! LOL! Your phlox is fabulous, hope mine does that well in the coming years.

Karma, I have sprayed enough RU over the years that I am surprised that anything is thriving out there, but the weeds are really not a problem for the past few years. I really dont have to do much with it on a weekly basis.

These are for mittsy and for you to enjoy as well, thanks to her I have zinnias this year as I lost my seed.

Sue do you see what I have gotten into now??? What do I pot it in, I got perlite to mix with soil???

Hi Candee, thats a Vriesea, so it likes shade or the leaves will burn. Its not too fussy with soil, but yes, free draining is preferable. If you fertilise it, it should quickly form a nice clump for you, and if you're lucky, you could get upwards of 10 plants from that one!
Good buying Candee!
Nemesias aren't native and I just asumed they were as common as, say, marigolds?
I agree that everyones gardens are looking great, but I will admit to being in mine every chance I get, hence the sore back! Its never completely under control though, and Karma, I too only take pics of the good bits!. LOL
These aren't really flowers, but its a very colourful foliage planting, and it's like this all year around!

Stunning, would love to have something like that to admire all year long. A real garden of eden! Shucks now that reminds me that fall and winter are just around the corner here.
Thanks for the info on the Vriesea. I'll move it to a shadier spot when I get home today. So you think it okay to put in a larger pot of soil mixed with perlite? About half and half would you say? Fertilize with miracle gro?

london England, United Kingdom

Lovely plants and flowers you two!

Coffs Harbour, Australia

Thanks Tez, thanks Candee. Your Vriesea could prob'ly go two parts soil, one part perlite I reckon, and miracle grow would be fine, maybe just a bit weaker than usual. A slow release pellet type fertiliser is also good for continous feeding. Dont water it much, or fertilise once it gets cold though. I hope it does well for you.
Wheres some pics from the lottie Terry? Is it still raining there?

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Thank you Sue. I think I will wait to repot soon and fertilize and then wait as it will soon be time to be bringing all these tropicals inside. I noticed last evening that my vigna caracalla is getting loaded with blooms, won't be long now. We are headed to the beach this weekend with the grandbabies so perhaps when we return it will have opened?

Very nice Candee! I can't wait untill my garden is in colour again! The Iris' are out, and the azaleas, but I'm looking forward to the foxgloves, Hippeastriums and physostegia aswell as other assorted things. I always forget what is where until they flower, and it's always a nice surprise.
Have a nice time at the beach hey?
Sue

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Thanks Sue, I so know what you mean about forgetting what is what. As a matter of fact that is how I always manage to roundup and destroy things that I later realize are precious plantings from previous seasons. I am trying to remedy that this year by placing a stone w/identification right at the base of each species, least maybe I won't wipe out and entire planting. How long before spring is sprung over there? I will have to live vicariously through your gardens when they blossom, so be ready with camera in hand, as all I will be posting are snowfalls on sticks!

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Sue! Yes it's still raining, here's what it looks like from the window today, would you go out there? so dark for an afternoon! And we had hale stones!! in August ,whatever next? I haven't been to the lottie for a week! Last time I was there, so busy trying to get jobs done inbetween the showers, forgot to take any pictures!!
Hi Candee, Thanks for the walk around your garden, everything looks like it's doing well and you have plenty of colour. Love the ruby lobelia and your Dahlias are fantastic!

Poor Chrysanth on the window ledge in the rain! This one is going to the lottie eventually!!

Yuk, that looks dreadful Terri, can it get any gloomier there? Glad you enjoyed my little yesterday tour. We had a storm last night and a little bit of hail but that isn't unusual for our area this time of the season.
Hope it clears up for you soon so you can reap your rewards from the lottie.

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi all - nice blooms in your gardens - and send your rain and cool weather this way!! Predicted high of 104 degrees today.
Candee - you asked to see a photo of my Peruvian daffodil (Hymenocallis festalis) and here it is - only three blooms for this clump. Can't seem to have it produce enough blooms for an arrangement so it will have to be relegated to this thread LoL.

Thumbnail by soilsandup
Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Thanks Diann, makes me wish mine were in the ground instead of fooling with the bulbs every year spring and fall. I always referred to mine as hymenocallis ismene, will have to research as I believe I have been wrongly identifying mine.

london England, United Kingdom

HeY!!!!!!!!!! whada mean relegated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LoL

nice flowers.

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi Terri - I thought that if I said that, it would give the plant an incentive to increase it's bloom power. Haven't quite decided whether talking to plants help, but I do mumble a lot to myself when I garden.

Candee - I have heard it refer both ways. There is a Hymenocallis calathina that is also called Ismene calathina - both plants look very similar, but I kind of recall that the plant name on the bulb that I purchased was H. festalis

london England, United Kingdom

I talk to my plants and mummmble alot too. LoL!

Thumbnail by terriculture

Yeah, well i just mumble alot! LOL
I have hymenocallis carribea, Spider Lily. There must be quite a number of species!
They flower in November here, so will post a pic then. I have heaps of them, all started from 3 bulbs given to me about 5 years ago. I've made borders with them.
it should start to warm up here toward the end of August, as September is the first month of spring. We have lovely warm days now, its just the night time temps that are chilly.
Terri, it looks as though your plants have been listening to you mumble!
Sue

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Sue - can't wait to see your photo of your hymenocallis. Mine's have multiplied, but it just doesn't bloom much. My other clump only had one flowering stalk, making a total of 4 for both patches.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Mine don't multipy much in the pots, perhaps next year I will use larger containers. Spring just around the corner, I am envious.
I don't talk to my plants, but I do hum a lot! Looks like yours are talking back at ya Terri, that is a lovely garden display.

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Soils, your peruvian daffodils are so full. I bought a couple of bulbs. One bloomed, the other rotted. This was taken in May.
