Hi Tills! Don't know if your problem is solved yet or not, but I just posted a photo without problem.

Mondays are busy days on the DG servers, with a lot of weekly reports being run.

How large is/was your image?

Generally, we recommend the members reduce their images to no larger than 800x600 pixels (640x480 is a great size.) The system will resize anything larger than 1000x800, assuming you can successfully pass the larger file between your system and the server.

If your photos are formatted as .gif files, they have a crisp resolution, but the file size is large. If you continue having problems uploading images, try saving your photos as .jpg files. The resolution won't be quite as sharp, but it's fine for online viewing, and will greatly reduce the size of the image file.

that didnt work.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I don't know what to tell you - I uploaded several photos to my journal yesterday, and they went fine (and I didn't bother to resize them, so some of them may have been pretty big.)

Can you re-set/repair your network connection, and see if that helps the speed? (I know sometimes I have to give mine a virtual "kick" in the pants to get it to work properly and promptly ;o)

I have a different, but related problem. Every so often (happened again the other day), I will post something (with or without a photo) and it simply does not appear. I will try 3 - 5 times with no luck and usually give up. I have tried refreshing and that does nothing. I go to other threads right away and have no problem posting at all on those. This does not happen very often, but it is aggravating when it does. I would say it has happened to me about five times in the past six months. Any ideas??

Still can't, calling my server. tried to send to my Blog, nothing.
Defragged, and everything else I could think of, still nothing.
Just don't get it.

tilly, look at the size of your pic in kb, a single left click on the thumbnail in My Pictures will bring up the 'Details' at the left. If it's much above 150kb and you have a slow connection it can be difficult to load, I try to keep it around 100kb. What system do you have, if XP you can get a free download from Microsoft to resize your pics.

Several questions, you mention defrag, have you done a Scandisk and cleared your Footprints. Slowness can be caused by these things building up, but there are other reasons. What security do you have, you may have picked up some bugs. Do you have Spybot S&D, if not and you don't have something else which is efficient try it and keep it updated, they update regularly and it has found a couple of things with new updates on mine which others haven't.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Wallaby, have been on the phone with my server for 3 hours and tried to down load FireFox, did not happen, it froze up, and would not download. My system is OK, Did all the the right things. I think maybe my router, may have gone bad. Back on the phone in AM. Have been posting pics for almost 2 years, have not change anything.. Just don't get it !!~!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Even Daves is Slow. Did the Cookies , and Spy Dot ?

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Spybot S&D, it's free and it sounds like you are on Broadband so there must be something slowing you up!

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html

This is the programme which found a spy in the registry when my connection kept shutting down, Spybot had done major updates the day before I had trouble and when I downloaded the updates it found the problem.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

A test, yhay it worked, have downloaded . fire fox and the spy ware that Wallaby, Said would help, I had 185 errors cost me $49. thats cheap, compared to taking it to a shop.
I'm not sure which really work. Did have issues with my system, and not my server or Daves. Thank you for your help.

Sorry for your troubles Tilly, but seeing that velvety rose was worth the wait. Beautiful!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I think I am back up to speed, just posted 4 pics on diff. treads, did have a bad bug. spent 2 days with diff. software to find it. LOL
I'm am not a computer nerd, trial and error and a lot of time, and my best friend at my side.

Terry, what I would like to know is what happened to the bar, at the bottom of the screen to let you know how you pic is downloading. Its on my laptop, but gone from my main computer?

Could your browser window be slid partway off the screen? If you click the button to maximize the browser window that should size it appropriately for your screen and my guess is it'll show up again. It's definitely something with your computer though, if it was a problem on DG's end it would show up on both your computers.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Will try.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Nope not there.
My poppy, that came from a bird. nice treat.

Glad to see you have sorted it tilly! Which programme found the bad bug? You mention costing $49 but Spybot is free (you can donate).

I had a crash last year are doing a defrag and restarting the computer, probably my own fault as I tried to put all the folders in alphabetical order in My Pictures. I used to name the individual folders according to what I put in them, now I name them by date started and leave all the pics as they are listed by date and time taken. At a future time I could move pics to their own folders but for now I burn each folder to DVD as I put enough pics in it. In each folder the pics sometimes were out of alphabetical order so I used the little paint box at the top, chose 'Details', once that loads you can then choose 'Filmstrip' again which when reopened will have put them in order. I did this with the whole page of Folders as they were out of order, and I had at least 100 Folders with hundreds of pics in most. It must have been too much for the computer!

I tell this story because we can too easily slip into a comfortable 'I have never had any problems with my computer' mode! I did manage to reload the system as I had all the discs which came with the already loaded computer, it took a lot of time but sure was a learning process! After all the reloading my computer was running so slowly I had to purchase a programme to clear out the registry, it keeps it running smoothly and I run it ever night before switching off. It's called RegCure, it also finds Adware but after a few runs they don't return. The computer makes entries to the registry every time you log on etc, empty Registry keys and File paths clog your computer, this programme clears the channels. But beware of rogue look-alike programmes, there's plenty out there!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Wallaby.
I tried spybot they found 205 errors, they would only fix 20 for free, I guess I had a bigger problem than I thought.

Also had way to many pics loaded too. thats what took the most time was to down load them, now going to be a little more careful.

I found 'Windows live' for a 90 day trial, it found the bug right away, cleaned up the drive and defrag. it.
Still going to have my tech. give it a real tune up, some things for mr are best not to touch.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

tilly, I don't think Spybot charge for anything, are you sure it wasn't another programme? Most do give a free 'trial' with limited fixes.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Thats what they did. but I had to many, still not sure its fixed,.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Trend Micro Housecall is another good freebee!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I think I got it fixed, Thanks a bunch.
