What's in bloom today?

Here's a pic of my round pond with the waterlily 'Colorado' sporting four blooms.

Here's a photo from my square pond - the yellow water lily (I've forgotten the name - maybe 'Texas Dawn' or 'Sunrise'?) has completely taken over - foliage so thick the blooms are hidden. A project on my list of summer 'to do' - remove everything from the pond, clean out all the muck in the bottom and replant the lotus, which has completely disappeared. I'll divide the yellow water lily and share if anyone is interested.

Looks like a great setting - do you fertilize your water lilies? I put two plant tabs in the Colorado this spring, but never do anything in the rectangular pond - I wouldn't know where to put the tabs - the whole pond is FULL of water lily - LOL.

Lucille, Lea -

You both have beautiful blooms.

I fertilize - but I use the year long spikes and put them in the pots in April when I am dividing up my waterlilies. I have tried the monthly pond tabs and found if I use them, that that is another 'activity' that seems to go by the wayside. Too many other things going on in the warmer months - so for me, it' just easier to do it early on.

Just beautiful yall. I can't wait to get started with my water garden this year.

Leawoodgardener you have a message.....

Thanks Carolyn☺ your photos are always awesome☺

I do not fertilize anymore Lea. I used to and I did have more blooms. Now I don't think the fertilizer is safe with the UV light so I am letting nature have her own way☺

Good luck meadow, don't forget the pics along the way☺

My water lilies seem to have taken over my pond, don't know how the fish can navigate thru all the leaf stems, but they do.

Lots of places for babies to hide in here. The fish just spawned last week, almost a month later than usual.

Pickerel doesn't seem to invade here, I have actually lost it a couple of times.

I have a stand of this yellow come up. The only yellow I remember having was Charlene Strawn and it didn't look like this, maybe I got it from a forgotten trade.....

jackieshar:

Do you have photoshop??? If you do there is a feature that will allow you to blend many photos together and it will look like one panaroma view of your pond.

You start out by standing in the same spot and just do a pan of the area, then bring up all the photos then there is a magic tool that will allow you to match and blend the different pictures together. Then when done it is one big picture...

One the best things about DG is all the photos that everyone posts here. I'm such a picture pig...LOL

Thanks Janet,

One thing I notice about growing older is that it is more difficult to learn new things. I hate that , I used to think I was bright.

I don't know that I am smart enough to use photoshop.....I had it on this pc at one time, never mastered it , but I don't think I uninstalled it, may still have it, I"ll look into it... I have such large areas it would be neat to be able to use it. .I usually use picasa just because of the ease to use but it's limited

Jackieshar:

now I'm getting up there and if I can learn Adobe Creative Suite 3 then you will be able to get it down. If your photoshop hasn't been upgraded within the last year then you won't have that function in it. This is a new feature in 2007 Photoshop.

Suggestion when trying to learn it and photoshop is rather difficult mainly cause the program can do so much. Always start out with wanting to learn 1 particular trick. Use the help and keep typing in unit the right information that you are wanting comes up. They way Adobe and the way I think to phase a help question are two way different ways....LOL Really the best way to learn new computer programs is by your need to do something with it. Take one new thing at a time and practice with it until you feel comfortable, then go on to the next thing that you want to accomplish with your photo.

When you break it down to just one thing at a time it isn't as daunting to learn it. Just so ya know I've not master that function its just that I keep seeing it demonstrated at some of the classes I go to and it is incredible what it does when combining several shots.

Here is my very first water plant bloom..... Gosh this thing is opening so fast I can't believe it.

oh my gosh here is another picture just 30 minutes later...... It is sad as there was a really large bloom but it was bent in the bag when I unpacked them and it doesn't look like it is going to make it, but at least I have this one which I never even expected to have blooms this year.... yes I know "Novice" here.....lol

Janet

ps I just love all the other pictures of everyone ponds.... just so incredible.

BeaHive, your pond and koi are so impressive. I am truly envious. Every fish in my pond that reaches 4 inches in length is sacrificed to a neighborhood heron. I just buy dime feeders now and let them grow 'til they disappear. Here is a lotus in my pond.

wow, there are so many beautiful plants and fish to comment on but here goes:

Crazy: Loved the waterlilys-one of the ones you gave me has bloomed a few times in a reddish color-beautiful and thanks again! BTW: Pond tours on the north side of Chicago are going on this weekend-r u going?

Beahive: That CallaLilly looks delicious like something I could eat! Are they hardy in OR? I would have to overwinter inside them in my zone and I already have too much work to do in the fall so I won't be going there (and stop posting those gorgeous pictures and tempting me!). Also, love your little yellow koi. I had one of those before "black plague" hit the pond last month. It was a favorite of mine-I like the bright yellow ones!

Meadow: Loved your pictures-didn't know the photoshop feature, now I am going to be looking into that. V. Cool!

Jackie: Very beautiful lush pond. How many years has your pond been established? I am a first year ponder and want to know how long it will take to get that lush look of yours!
