wow-that is a long time to get "lush". I was hoping you'd say something like 2-3 years. . . I'm impatient!
It's gorgeous!
What's in bloom today?
Linda, The calla are not hardy where I live. I will have to keep
these inside over the winter. I do love my yellow Koi. I think he needs someone his same color! I lost a fish last weekend. He was my "special needs" kid. He came to me with a crooked lower spine. :( Not sure why he died, found him in the filter basket. All the other fish are fine. Hope your pond is on the mend and you can relax and enjoy it .
Mother,
It's a constant changing work in progress. It was pretty after just 3 years too. I now have let nature take charge and appreciate the modifications each season. In my crazy climate of severe droughts then floods, 105 summers, 80% humidity, hail and tornados, below freezing winters..best to let someone higher up take the responsibility of stewardship of this garden. I am blessed to be allowed to enjoy it and share my pictures where I can.

Jackie: All that crazy weather in Oklahoma? Who knew???? Your pond/garden look like the garden of Eden-gorgeous!
Mother,
Everyday I feel blessed to have been allowed to retire here, even tho I have worked harder on this land than I ever did to earn a living. Lived here permanently 4 years now. The forty acres we have was never lived on or developed, in the middle of the woods and didn't even have roads, elec, water, phone when we bought it back in the early 80s. What you see in pictures we have literaly carved out of the wilderness, from what was at the time dirt cheap, sorry Oklahoma soils. We had to get to the land to view it on 4 wheeled motorcycles.
Casinos moving in near by have brought the land values up now. But we bought to live on , not to invest in.
Weather? yes, right in the middle of tornado alley. Gainesville, Tx 8 miles to my south holds the record for most tornados in the U.S...
My biggest problem here is drought, even years when we have good rains my soil is pure sand from ancient river bottoms......very little nutrients and will not retain moisture or fertilizer, it just runs right thru
It will grow almost anything tho if water and nutrients are constantly added.
Beautiful pictures everyone!
Crazy4Brugs - love your waterfall! What is the yellow plant to the right?
Beahive - beautiful pond!!
I just love the way everyone's lilies are climbing all over one another. Mine look so sparse by comparison. .Here's a picture of my only bloom today (shady pond so I don't get a ton of flowers) - I like the reflection. I believe this one's called "Attraction".

Beautiful "Songs"! Your stream looks like mine minus the plantings (which I may copy your ideas because they look so good-is that alright?)
Jackie your ponds are so beautiful.
SongsofJoy, the plant with the yellow flowers is Missouri Evening Primrose. Love your Astilbes and your little shed its adorable.
BeaHive do you know the name of the calla lily? It's pretty!!
mothermole...I have more if you want them.
that astilbe is stunning!
Brenda
Mothermole - of course you may "copy". That's what's so great about this site - the sharing of ideas!
Crazy4Brugs - thanks for the ID. It probably needs full sun, eh?
Dragonfly - beautiful waterlily shot!
Lovely family, Bea
Yes, I meant to say how pretty your fish are also, Beahive!
Deb,
The only pond iris I have to have done well are the yellow flag, which is invasive in many ares, mine included. A beautiful blue louisiana iris, and the black gamecock that can do wet or dry.
Your lotus is beautiful. It's so hot and dry here makes a gal wanna give it up. Ponds are drying up again.
Pictured is the latest to be found growing in my gardens. Fortunately I saw him first.
jackieshar....your lotus are beautiful! Your other pic, however, is giving me the heebiejeebies....ikes....
:)
I know we have rattlensnakes in Florida too, but luckily they stay in the groves usually, not in our yards (although my brother was bitten by a pygmy rattler) Our black racers get very long (5-6 feet) and scare you to death, and although aggressive if cornered, usually just want to get away (and aren't poisonus)
What a pretty fish and lily!
Brenda
My lobelia (monet's moment I think it is called) is finally starting to bloom. I bought 1 big plant and separated it into single stalks and planted them around my stream, directly into the river rock. I am experimenting to see which ones make it so I can better learn where to best plant in the stream -- I have to turn off the water in the winter and have only planted in the deeper pools until now.
This is a picture of a couple of lobelia (one on each side of the stream) and the sweet flag I picked up this year on sale (w00t!).
SongsofJoy - You've done a great job! I can't wait until mine matures, and I plant more. I strive to have someday what you have now.
evie - thank you!
I so love seeing everyone pond pics... sad thing is all of my pond plants that I just received are dying... They bloomed 2 of them and now all four are rotting....
What is wrong with them.
They are in containers that are 3 feet deep and the pads are floating on the top of the water, but everyday I go out and take off another pad that is slimy.... When I take a hold of them they just come loose.
Is there anything I can do to say what little is left???
Janet
That is normal for water lilies. The leaves only last so long. Remove them as they die back..new ones should be along shortly. Are you using pond tab fertilizer month?
Very normal for the old leaf to die and rot, and the new one comes out from the center root. Make sure they are in as much sun as you can possibly give them.
Jackie, no its not a Slocum lotus. One of these days I'll have to go back to where I bought it and ask the name.
