CLOSED: Bizarre Beetle / Roach?

Warrenton, VA

I just moved into a new house in the country which we had built. I have seen tiny versions of this in different places in the house, usually about 1/8th inch in size. I have also seen REALLY tiny baby ones scattered here and there, but last night this monster was outside hanging on a screen.

Two weeks ago I had orkin spray the house and he thought one tiny version was a roach of some sort but didn't seem concerned and finished spraying the house.

Are these things wood-boring beetles of some sort, or is this just something that a "city boy" will have to get used to out here?

This is a long-horned wood-boring beetle (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) in the subfamily Prioninae; specifically, it appears to be a brown prionid, Orthosoma brunneus - see http://entweb.clemson.edu/museum/beetles/local/btle62.htm for an image. They should pose no danger to your home. BTW, a good source for information on household pests in general is your county (Fauquier) office of Virginia's Cooperative Extension service - see http://offices.ext.vt.edu/view.cfm?webname=fauquier for contact information.
