Hart-
Thanks for the offer but I'm moving south in a couple years so am not up to doing much but maintainance in my MD garden. The FL garden is my "work in progress".
July flower pictures.
Not many closeups of flowers - need to get some of the daylilies blooming, but for now sharing a little bit of color here and there. Purchased these Dahlias - red one is 'Bishop of Landorf' (sp?) this spring - really wanted it because of the deep maroon foliage. Then couldn't resist the yellow, paired them with red Cuphea and Diamond Frost Euphorbia which is finally starting to fill out.
Another landscape shot, I may have posted one similar in the June thread? I finally finished this bed - about 6-8 different Coleus, a few that are just babies but hopefully by the end of the summer I'll be posting a photo where you won't even see the dirt. Coleus really seem to like this spot and a couple of years ago by August they looked like shrubs!
Jen, love the wild flower pic, did you grow them from a seed mix in your yard?
Here is an oriental lily that I ordered from Parks about 5 years + ago. I was trying to do an all yellow garden at the time. The lily struggled along and finally pulled through, but it is not yellow. I think something went wrong with the hybridizing.
Goodness gracious, so many beauties!!!! Holly, that Daylily with the spurs is certainly a prizewinner.
Qwilter, your canna is just beautiful. I left mine in the ground and they came back one year and then nothing!!!
RCN, Your gardens are always so interesting. I love a purple/chartreuse combo. I've just planted some Euphorbia blackbird with some chartreuse hosta.
Jen, that glad is spectacular. Mine don't even have buds yet.
wind, I love that Hosta too :) 'Jewel of the Nile' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/5011/
hmmm, chartreuse plants, let me see - there's Deutzia 'Chardonnay Pearls' on the right and Sedum 'Angelina' planted along the edge with Veronica 'Corinne Tremaine', not really chartreuse, but a nice groundcover with lime green leaves and white margins. Have also planted Ceratostigma 'My Love' which might not be hardy for me but I'm going to "test" it :) Another chartreuse plant I love is Corydalis 'Berry Exciting' - it's not looking as good as it did last summer, but it flushes lots of bright new foliage once the cooler temps arrive. Campanula 'Dickson's Gold' is another sweet chartreuse plant, however I've had repeated failures with it and will probably give up. However, Campanula persicifolia 'Kelly's Gold' has performed beautifully and is evergreen for us which is a bonus! My most exciting chartreuse plant which is still waiting to be planted is Aralia cordata 'Sun King' http://www.asiaticanursery.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/plants.plantDetail/plant_id/1376/index.htm
A friend sent it to me last fall and it was so tiny I had to repot it and it's just now starting to get enough size to it to consider planting. We've got the native Spikenard growing in the gardens and it does well so hoping this one will be a winner as well!
stormy, you'll love 'Blackbird' and it will look stunning with a chartreuse Hosta! Hmmm, maybe that's a combo I should try in one of the areas I'm working on :)
Wonderful "flower" pictures everyone - I've got to take a time out from planting and get some pictures! I keep admiring the daylilies but never get any pictures of them :(
thanks for the chartreuse plant list :) I'll have to look them up. I made a copy of it for my notes. Every year it's a new obsession. This year it was chartreuse plants and coleus'. Your little seedlings of the eucomis are doing well by the way, I just looked at them this morning. I also noticed our one-and-only lavender poppy has a bloom on it this morning and a few more buds too...so exciting :))))
I took a few seeds from a similar hosta to rcn's Jewel of the Nile, that was growing at Rutgers University and planted them (I think winter sowed them, I'd have to check my journal to be sure) and low and behold they are sprouting!!! I've never started hostas from seed before, I'm excited to see 3 seedlings in the pot. It will be interesting to see what they grow up into. If they survive, maybe next year I can post a photo to see if anyone can help with an id.
RCN, Do you order plants from Asiatica Nursery? It's just a mile from my home, many years ago we would get our Christmas Trees from there. Although back then it was just a farm owned by the parents. They aren't open to the public but have open houses from time to time. I always seem to miss them so I haven't been on the property for years and you can't see it from the road.
I posted these on the MG forum but so some of you may have seen them but boy are they pretty.
HollyannS, do you know the id of the blue MG? it is gorgeous!!
