fleurone,
It didn't have a name tag on it when I bought it so I don't know which one it is. The picture of the 2 that you have together, well the darker green one looks like the one I have. The bloom on it is kind of wide and flat. I bought it at Lowes and only gave 4.00 for it. It is small, so I figured that was why it was cheaper cause some of them I looked at were as high as 20.00

Hi Fleurone and flowerfantasy, wow fleur, you have many broms! Some I recognose and others I would need to see the flower.
post 5850350 looks like a Neo, possibly fosperior perfection or one like it.
5850371 is an Aechmea nudicaulis flavomarginata (I think)
5850390 looks like Tillandsia cyanea, and thats about all I can determine from your pics.
Flowerfantasy, depending on your climate, you should be able to put your plants outside in bright shade in the warmer months.
This is Portea petropolitana var. Extensa, a spikey character, but the flower is nice (close up)

I hate to be the one to be the naysayer. But I will tell you my practical experience with what you have done. Its a great idea! Don't get me wrong. But Its a BAD idea to put that around that pole, especially if that pole is connected to your house. When you water it, or if water collects in it from rain or a sprinkler hitting it, it will eventually start to rot that pole. How do I know? It happened to me.

Using them in the trees is a great idea, because the roots of the broms will (eventually) grow through the media and attach to the trees. The cocofiber will rot away, actually it rots away pretty fast once it gets wet from repeated rain and watering.

I use those liners all the time to mount plants like orchids and broms to other things (like slabs of treefern or cork). I also use them to cover PVC pipes to make totems for climbing plants like philodendrons. But I don't use them in baskets anymore, because they rot quickly and you are left with a bottomless basket where the plant tried to fall out.

It must be our different climate or a difference in the material of the baskets, as some of mine are still going strong after 3 years, but the birds do take some for their nests, so I pack the basket from the outside with Paperbark instead, in some instances.
The liner I had attached to the pole (which is hardwood) is not out in direct weather, so would need to be watered by hand, and as water is only needed in the vase, (for Neo's) If done carefully enough, the lining can be kept relatively dry. The stocking/pantyhose, is more likely to rot before post or liner!

It'll probably be fine then. I had to have a porch support replaced after I rotted it at the base from watering the attached brom, and it developed a 'soft squishy spot' behind the cocofiber.

I love cocofiber. Its a really versatile material. You've done a great job!

Thanks!
All my broms are throwing pups at the moment, but it is so hot, and we are having summer rains also, and the chance of rot is really high. I have to keep tipping the water out of the centres!
Alot of the Vrieseas are flowering. V. guttatta is nearly out, and V. splendens has a spear about 10" tall. Alot of the Vrieseas are larger varieties, so I will have to wait until they mature to see any flowers.
I recently scored some seed from Alcantarea glazouiana, and with this warm weather, they have all germinated (well, most of them) Apparently kepping them from rotting is the biggest challenge, so I am babying them like crazy!
I will post some pics of stuff soon.

fleurone,
did you ever find the names of the 2 that you have pictured but couldn't finrd the names of them? It is the pic with 2 in it.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Hi all, sorry I have not been around much lately , lost my Great Dane and then usual busy stuff.
Flower I haven't found the names yet but will post when I find them, they will be on some elusive scrap of paper that I have put safe!.Have yet to tidy my desk.

Well I am happy I know I am going to have a brom Christmas , I have six on the way so looking forward to recieving them. I persuaded family to buy me those as presents this year. Something I really wanted instead of the usual stuff.
Will take pics and post when I get them :)

Nice Fleur! I love the Pitcairnia! It looks like a Cordyline!
I have Aechmea correia araujoi also, and Neoregelia 'Hannibal Lector'
I find Hannibal can take a good deal of light to make the colour stronger.
I would love to get my hands on a Cryptanthus 'Black MAgic' but they are a little bit expensive here. If I ever find a serious Cryptanthus grower, I will have a better chance of getting it at a good price. You have some nice Broms in your collection Fleur!
