Looking forward to when the purple and the white will grow in together a bit . . .

Nichole - Your blooms are so pretty! Are the purple blooms Jishi?

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Becky - is there a difference between Jishi and Picotee? My purple blooms do look just like Ronnie's Jishi blooms from last year . . . but those blooms had a more pronounced white edge. You almost have to get out a magnifying glass to see the edge on mine. The seeds I grew these from came from a Picotee Mix packet.

Edited to say that I must be tired, 'cause I was mixing up names with pictures . . . Ronnie's pix from last year (as seen in photobucket!), not yours, Becky. Sorry!

I see what you are saying now that I am looking at your newest photo. My red picotee came from a Picotee mix, too! I plan to grow more of the seeds to see if I don't get a pretty white one like yours and of course you know I love the purple! :-)

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Tell you what . . . if you get any seeds from your red to share, I'll save you some of my white and purple!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Sounds great, Nichole!!! :-)

Here is a new one for me today. Not sure what cultivar it is. I may have gotten this one from Shawna. Very pretty large bloom that is a deep purple! I just love those purple blooms!!!

And more good news!!! My hummingbird is back! YAY!!!

I was working today and my daughter sent photos to my cellphone. There were 2 photos of a hummingbird. I didn't realize till I got home that she took the photos from her cell of the hummer looking right at her through our large front livingroom window. Our birdies disappeared back in April. I am now wondering if this bird is a female and may have been nesting. Or maybe this is a different bird entirely. But my daughter saw it again before sundown, so we were watching it through the window and sure enough it came right up to the window to look at us! LOL! So, I put the feeders back up! I'm going to watch in the morning to see if it is out nectaring from the MG blooms. They love MGs! So glad to see a hummer again! I just love those bitty birds! :-)

Nichole your picotees are beautiful!!

Becky this is an awesome color!! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5171066

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks, Ronnie! I had thought I had taken a picture of it with 3 blooms, but apparently I didn't have time this morning before rushing off to work. Now that it is the weekend, I hope to get another photo with more blooms on it. :-)

I got quite a few new surprises this morning.

Here is one from Ronnie that was labeled "Maisugata". But it looks like it may have been crossed with something ... perhaps a Picotee? Very, very unique and pretty! Thanks so much Ronnie for sharing this seed!!!

This one I got from Shawna! Not sure of the name. Possibly 'Ukigumo' or "Blue Blizzard" or "Blue Flying Saucers" or ??? I don't know. Need an ID here on this one, please.

I am growing another of my "Pink Porcelain" MG vines. This one is showing a white edge. Medium bloom that is pale pink. I don't see many this solid color. Would be nice to use for a cross. :-) :-)

Antoinette's Ten Ten twins! :-)

My NOID vine which I have finally given a name to is still blooming even as it expires. It's new name is "Lady Yaguruma's Kaleidoscope". Long name, I know ... but wanted something that I felt described it! :-)

This is from Antoinette as well. I love this little Dracula! Makes me smile everytime I see it bloom.

All the vines were blooming today, but don't want to bore everyone with photos of the same vines and blooms over and over, so am just posting some of the new ones and a couple of my favorites from this grow-out. :-)

This isn't a MG, but it bloomed again this morning and just takes my breath away! This is "Tulip" water Lotus. It's a dwarf variety that I have growing in a pot. Sunny pale yellow! :-)

Love the twins!!! Hoping mine looks that good!!

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

Becky, I sure do like that blue color tie dyed one.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

:-) Thank you, rylaff! :-)

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Beautiful blooms Becky. Love the yellow water lotus too.

(Zone 7a)

Am enjoying the gallery of flowers, Becky & Syrumani. Becky - the yellow lotus is a treat. Syrumani, I think Ron once said that if an MG appears with the characteristics of a given cultivar - no matter what the ancestry is - then it assumes the name of the cultivar. However, this does not guarantee its offspring will be the same. A cultivar needs to be stable for a certain number of generations before the offspring can be expected to resemble their parent.

Thanks Jackie and Karen for the nice compliments on my blooms! It is so relaxing to walk outside and leave all my cares behind. It's been a hectic summer so far!

I have had to move my hanging basket of MGs around again. Hummer feeders went back up earlier than I was expecting to put them up. I don't know if the bird was just a fly by or will be back but I was very surprised to see one this time of year. They usually start coming back in September. I don't think it was the same bird I had all winter. My winter resident went to the feeders first and then the blooms. This bird seemed like it had never seen a feeder before, so it might be a young hatchling out on it's own.

Here are my hanging baskets. The Mixed Ensigns are getting taller, but not a single bud or bloom on them yet. I'm holding out with fingers crossed that they need to get a certain height before the blooms start appearing. I can hope ... right???!! LOL! The other vine I am not sure what it is. It has had one bloom, which I missed, so am not sure. The bloom appeared to be a dark pink but that was after it had wilted. I think the seeds came from Ronnie. Duh! Not a clue really. Ha,ha! I'm getting bad ... just shove seeds everywhere into pots, ground, hanging baskets. And then I forget to label what they are! (Arghhhhh!!)

Some more blooms from today. This is Chachamaru. I don't know why, but I was expecting this vine to have bigger blooms. The blooms are 2-3".

This bloom: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5172135
looks like this in the afternoon after melting! LOL! I don't know why, but I like this photo! It just looks cool!

Thumbnail by beckygardener
Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Oh, Becky, that is great color on the Chachamaru! Looks like a nice bright rosie color. Mine were mostly a dusty rose color. The blooms on mine were all 2.5-3", so that must be standard.

I was going to rip out my 3 tiered bed to put in a water garden. After pricing wood, which has literally doubled in 6 months, it looks like the water garden will have to wait. So I was inspecting what exactly was growing in that bed. Y'all gotta bare with me as I am such a newbie that I grow just about every seed I get my hands on. I had seen this plant from the top of the leaves. Well when I bent down to do some weeding, I found the "eggs" ripening on the poached egg plant. Too cute, huh!?

Thumbnail by beckygardener
Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Becky! It's almost like we're growing the same things! I have some of those egg plants, too . . . my eggs are all yellow right now, though.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Nichole - Great gardening minds think alike! LOL! If you look at the photo of my poached egg plant, you can see a small yellow "egg" below the larger white egg.

I like the dusty rose color of your Chachamura. I wish mine was more that color. I am starting to like the softer colors! LOL! Too many bright colors on my other MG vines! LOL! :-)

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Well, they look a bit sad from the heat, but you can see a bit of the eggs . . . they are "supposed" to get big enough to have a few dozen eggs of varying colors at any one time. My "eggs" are getting baked too fast, though.

Thumbnail by Syrumani
(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Wow! Your poached egg plants have a LOT of eggs! Mine is pretty big and just has the one white and one yellow eggs. You must be doing something right to have so many! The yellow look like egg yolks! :-) I wonder if baby chicks will hatch from them! Hee, hee!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Well, these poor vines have been knocked over by the wind despite being in a 5 gallon pot at least 6 times. Many of the leaves are a bit ragged looking. I put some plastic fencing around the pillar, and had to cut a few vines, but was able to untwist a few vines from each other and wrap them in/around the fencing. It is also starting to twine around the fencing by itself. Hasn't been blown over since!

Sorry, X, but I think I might need a better camera in order to do the zoom/macro thing . . .

Nichole - What is your gorgeous vine? Is it Ipomoea hederifolia? Love those grape-vine looking leaves! That is going to cover your pillar very nicely. Ooooh ... you have to post a photo when it does!! I really would love to see that!

Sylvia sent me seeds for I. hederifolia last year, so I located them and I think I am going to try growing one of those vines along the corner of my back fence. Thanks for reminding me I had seeds for it! Hard to keep track of all the different seeds with their corresponding vine/blooms. I love looking at your photos! Thanks for posting such a cool vine!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

It IS, Becky! I. hederifolia var. lutea. I'm thinking of starting more seeds to put on my trellis in the backyard as well. These vines grow so FAST! DH thinks they would be able to provide shade for other plants.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Nichole - I think your dh is RIGHT!!! LOL! Seeds are planted for I. hederifolia in my garden! How long did yours take to germinate and start growing? Do you get a lot of blooms on yours?

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Very pretty blue and white bloom Becky. It's the shade of blue that gets me.

Nichole, gorgeous yellow h. lutea

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Becky - the seeds did not take long to germinate at all. I have 3-4 in a 1-gallon pot, and they grew pretty good. Once I put them inside the 5 gallon pot, though, they just took off! Blooms are just now starting for me, though - probably due to the shock of being knocked over again and again!

Thanks, patootie!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Nichole - Thanks! I shall see how they do in my yard. :-)

Here is my newest bloom that is in one of the hanging baskets. I believe it is Mini Bar Rose (which I believe I may have gotten from Ronnie). Thanks so much! It is really looking good in the basket! I just love the variegated foliage!
