Part of my garlic harvest - about 1/3. Now how do I get the dirt off without hurting the garlic?

Thanks, Celeste. Can't you just use water, Cat? Here's my chard.

I think I read that you are not supposed to wash garlic. I have to google that.

This one says, sandy soil brush of the dirt.
clay soil, hose off dirt.

Dry in a cool dry place.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

picked my first cuke today - have had sweet peas for a while. T-plants are growing fast. critters have slowed down the summer sqash, hubbards and needed to reseed. the bush beans look almost ready to burst.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Gloria. The one I found said to let dry for 3 - 4 weeks and then brush off dirt. My whole kitchen reeks of garlic! There is no way I can use all this garlic so I am going to try drying a bunch of it after I give a bunch away and save some for planting this fall. And no I know not to buy a "garlic sampler" when I want to try a little garlic! LOL

Absolutely no vampires in my house!

I have been eating salads made of purslane, lamb's quarters and baby chard leaves with (store bought) tomatoes - yummy!

A silver bullet will do to kill those blood suckers. Garlic no way if its edible its mine.

Broccoli or Cauliflower I wont plant as many next year. They do not yield for the space they take up. I planted June 2nd, and finished around the 7th. So my veggies are a tad over a month old.

I will try to get my hubbie to take a pic (if possible) of me and 1 cherry tomato plant. I am 5' 2". The plant is as tall as me, just over a month planted. For next year I will consider making cages like David_Paul has.

Yummy, Cat! Roasted on the barbecue is great.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Don't have a barbeque. I might bake some of the elephant garlic - but I have to save one bulb if I want elephant garlic next year.

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

AYankeeCat...garlic always has intimidated me. Thought it was a space hog, you had to time plantings just so etc. Nice crop you have there. Is it easier than I though? How much space did it use?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Sherrie, can't wait to see the tomoato plant!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I crammed them pretty close together - like 6" apart. Now they are almost all harvested so I need to plant something that will crop fast in their place.

First time for me growing corn. I love this foliage. Ears are already forming.

Nice mgarr....what is the cultivar?

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Did anyone else notice a banner year for mulberries, or other fruit trees? I am not sure if it was the weather, the severe damage it suffered in 2006 that it rested in 2007 and exploded in 2008, or what .... but, I don't ever remember them so early or so bountiful.

This photo is a couple weeks old already, and most of the berries are done.

WNY . . .nice crop there. Can't answer your question as there are no fruit trees close to me. Been thinking of putting in a mulberry. Perhaps a dwarf cultivar.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I think, if the nursery song is correct, you can keep them hacked down into a shrub .... or bush, as the case may be.

I know that mine was nothing more than a stick in the ground for probably 20 years after my dad planted it .... I started to care for it, and now it is the main shade for my greenhouse. I like it because I can easily hack it back before it gets glass damagingly big.

Here's a more wide shot of it.

You must get a nice crop out of that tree. Going to take some thought about where to put one. Whitman Farms has a dwarf that only grows to 9 feet or so.

Some people consider the Bhut Jolokia peppers below edible but I don't (growing them for fun and to give away).

Its not ready until it turns red.

schickenlady....I was wondering if Bhuts were not hot when they are green.....tried any?

A red one and it was so small of a speck I didnt get nothing hardly to chew let alone to taste.

Whats going on. Am I the only one that thinks this summer is strange?

Corn 6 weeks old and starting to show its tassle?

Cauliflower is turning Purple!

Celeste you wanted to see the tomato plant that was 5' tall. Well now it is taller. The flower hanger is 6' plus tall. Dont forget I started to plant June 2nd.......

I am with you SchickenLady!! Not only were the mulberries abundant, they were a good three weeks early.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

The birds got my first blackberry! They are early this year, too. But I am still waiting on tomatoes. tap...tap...tap

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Cauliflower turns purple if it exposed to sunlight? I always make a hat for them so's they get no sun. That will keep 'em white, I think.

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

tap...tap...is right. Plants are doing great but only two small ripe tomatoes so far. Hundreds of green ones just hanging there . . .

How big to jalepenos get? Do you wait to pick till they start getting a reddish tinge?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Had my first blackberries the other day. Yum!

Jalapeno's will vary in size. Some will get 3" long and some just an inch or so long. Last year I wanted them to get red and waited and waited. I waited a little to long as the flesh started to get marks, scars, rips - I dont know what you call it. They were edible just not quite as tender.

Then I make salsa. After salsa or what ever, I can them whole with a no boil receipe.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yup....you make Salsa... Very HOT salsa!! You missed my dance at the RU after I sampled such salsa. I didn't see the lid that said it was hot!!!!!!
