making it!
Edibles - '08
Looks yummy, Jo Ann - thanks!
Has anyone grown blackberries in containers? I want to give a friend some of my Triple Crown but she is selling her house so wants to have it in a pot. Will it do well (assuming hardiness is not an issue - Triple Crown is z5 so she will probably need to shelter it for the winter)? What size pot? Thanks.
Maybe try the Fruit and Nut forum?
I thought that's what the NE forum was...
Fruitti Tutti, No. Elvis said Tutti Fruitti.
Wasn't that Little Richard?
It may have been. Little Richard - the Georgia Peach - was before and after Elvis. Incidently L.R. is scheduled to appear on an upcoming Young and the Restless episode.
The Georgia Peach is still going strong!
At any rate, I did see Elvis singing that song the other day on TCM in one of his movies. /I don't watch them (Elvis Movies), it was a promo for an upcoming movie/
Four squash--8 Ball, Geode, Sunray & Floridor--in an earthbox. Geode dominates the EB with its huge variegated leaves but doesn't seem to be reducing the output of the others. Growing the same cultivars a few feet away in the veggie garden and, so far, the EB squash are marginally ahead of their in the dirt brethren.
Can't see the EB!!
Cool! You're ahead of me - I planted late this year.
First time ever had fresh chives so very different from dried. Dried has a much stronger taste.
We've had baby beet greens twice now and I had chard in my lunch today.
Oh, Cat! Yer makin' me hungry.
Looks yummy!
Cat.....beet greens are the best. Had some this year when puslane over-ran the trial beet bed. Thinking of starting more. Can they be sown all summer?
David_Paul> do you eat the purslane?
I have PLENTY of Purslane.
do you eat it?
Gloria....my goal is to get rich selling a weed....er purslane . . .to five star New York City restaurants . New York Times writes the top places prefer the wild purslane. "The Weed that is Wowing New York":

I do eat it myself. Haven't tried any of the recipes in the link above but they sound good (especially fried with bacon).
Never tried Purslane, no intention to either. It's probably fattening, lol.
Nope. Not fattening, but it may cure anything that might need curing if you eat it.
If you feed it to your chickens they will lay omega 3 enriched eggs.

Very interesting, Gloria.

even johnnyseeds has it. They don't say what its good for though.
I had purslane over millet for lunch yesterday. David_Paul thanks for the links.
I just had a stir fry of my first yellow squash (thank you Emily for the seeds) with my first garlic and asparagus (from the store) and pine nuts. I left a plate full to cool while I ate and came back to see the "good cat" stealing the asparagus out of the cooling plate.
Yummy!
Meoooooow!
Heres the deal. I grew green bells in the GH and Bhutt Jolekia in the house. The Bhutt was georgous and the bells were babies when I put them in the garden, but green and pretty. Well I kept saying to hubby, "they dont look right" . Well here is a pic of green bell pepper, 'HOPPER BUM ' I GOT THE DISEASE!!!!!!!!!!

Oh. No!
I am looking forward to trying some melons next year. Please five your favorites. Smaller varieties are better for me as I will be planting in my raised boxes.
I had a salad last night made with the ingredients from my garden.
Cukes, lettuce, broccoli, radish, I then added red onion and cheese not from the garden.
Also had Swiss Chard (from the garden) as my side dish with my steak and potatoes.
Not ready yet....but someday these peaches will make a nice snack or desert.
Does anyone use the red tomato mulch? What do you think? Does it work?
mmmm. mmmm. Ive been off produce from the supermarket since I had salmonella poisoning (Tomatoes and who knows what else) and that meal sure sounds great to me!
Next year. My own garden.
red t-mulch? what is that? i've tried the red plastic on the ground that is suppose to increase t plant yield - did not think it helped and was more hassle than anything else.
