Spring 2008 Wintersowing Seed Swap

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

Oh, Joanne, how frustrating! Seems that has been happening more frequently. I recently wrote for information from a school (looking into going for a second degree), and when it arrived, it was empty (also in a plastic baggie, with a note apologizing for the "inconvenience.") This goes a bit beyond inconvenience--all I got was an empty envelope!

I noticed above that Anita has not marked my envelope as "received" yet, either. I guess if we both get our own back, we could just send them to each other! Or maybe tell Anita to just trade our two and send them to each other, if they both arrive after she's done the swap. Granted, I only mailed it two days ago, but I'm a little anxious that it won't arrive on time, either, with no mail on the 4th.

Sigh. We had the best intentions. . .

Not to worry. I'll wait until Saturday night to swap. I have plans on Sunday. The seeds will be in Monday's mail.

York, PA

Thanks so much Anita! Hopefully Angie's will get there as well. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Good news, Joanne, looks like both of our envies arrived in time! Looks like we still have 8 people in the swap, so we should get some interesting combinations of seeds.

What fun! I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas day!

Packages are all done and I will drop them off at the post office today. I hope everyone likes their seeds. If you enjoyed being a part of this swap, I usually do it again in the fall. Thanks for joining me!

I'm glad to hear our seeds made it on time! Thank you Anita for waiting until Saturday to do the trade. I'll be hawking the mailman until the seeds arrive :)

Yes, thank you Anita. This is a labor of love, and we all appreciate your care in making it work.
Can't wait to see my envie.

I truly hope everyone enjoys their seed. Keep in mind...you might receive something you would not normally buy, but try sowing it just the same. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Mid-Cape, MA(Zone 7a)

That's what I'm looking forward to! Something I would not ordinarily have thought to try. . . WS is too easy not to attempt new things.

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

Wooo Hooo! My packet came today, and I am thrilled! Today is my son's 7th birthday, and I feel like I'm the one who got the great present! LOL

There were so many great things in my packet that I've been wanting to try! Here's what I got:

Hair allium (just saw a picture of this the other day and said, "Oh, I have to have that!")
Candy Lily (need to look this one up, but I love lilies of all sorts!)
Birdhouse Gourds (which my kids have been begging me to grow since they painted some at a Harvest Fest last fall)
Clematis Fremontii (my 9 yo is a clematis fanatic this year, and keeps asking for every clematis we walk past. . .and I love them, too, so have not been very good at saying no!)
Cleome Rose Queen (a plant I just discovered and had planned to try WS this winter for my butterfly garden)
Hardy Hibiscus (need to look this one up, too. . .sounds great!)
Mexican Sunflower (sounds like it would look great & add a new shape & texture to my flame-colored day lilies)
Agastache "Honey Bee Blue" (I WS "Honeybee White" from Critter this year, and was planning to track down the blue version to put with it this year! Perfect!)
Columbine Navy Blue (This is a plant I've been coveting from my neighbors' yard. She has a fantastic cottage garden, but when I asked her if I could have a few seeds from her purple & blue columbine, she said no! Not a very friendly person. . .)
Tomato "Black Krim" I've read so much about this tomato, it is in my top two to try next year, along with Kellog's Breakfast. I'm growing Cherokee Purple for the first time this year, and can't wait to try Black Krim to compare!

Thanks to everyone who sent such wonderful seeds, and a special "Hurrah" to Anita for organizing it! I couldn't be happier!

Anita, what color does the Candy Lily bloom? I wonder if they look at all like the ones in Plant Files:

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/134226/

Very cool looking plant--unusual with all the split stems & multiple blooms!

I have places for about any color, as I love them all, but would love to have some idea what color the blooms are before I plant them out next year. I've never grown lilies from seed, but am excited about trying it!

Got my seeds on Tuesday but this is the first time I have been online. Thanks to everyone for the great seeds and a big thanks to Anita for organizing this swap!

Floyd, VA(Zone 6b)

I received my seeds today. I am very excited. I had planned to concentrate more on annuals next year, and now I have plenty of special seeds to do it. I even have yellow petunias! Anita, you are so generous with your time to organize this and deal with the collecting and distribution of them.
Thank you.

Wow, Anita, those are fantastic! I think either color would go well in my front bed with some roses--they are yellow, dark pink, and a coral/red/yellow mix. That last picture would look great with this Mardi Gras rose!

Are they a fairly tall plant? I have shorter things planted in front of the roses (salvia, petunias, angelonica, allysum) but I think the lilies would look nice between the three roses.

Thanks Joanne. Bookerc - no bother - Candy Lily have Iris like leaves and height.

My seeds arrived yesterday--I was just beginning to feel a bit left out but was being brave about it ;-) . . . and they came! Many I haven't grown before. . . which will be very fun next winter. And some old favorites that I always want to grow!
Thanks so much, Anita, for everything. This was beautifully organized.

Glad they finally arrived. Looking forward to seeing you guys in the fall. Perhaps more will join. Last year was quite a turn out for the Fall Swap which is great for variety! It also allows you to share seed from plants that you grew wintersowing!

Yes Anita, see you in the Fall. You can sign me up right now! LOL!

If allowed, I would love to join your seed swap in the fall. It sounds like a lot of fun to share and receive. Vicki

not to worry - I'll post it at some point in September.

Kannapolis, NC

Please include me as well. Lost all of my seed stock this summer due to forgetfulness and a sudden thunderstorm, so am starting over. I will have some seeds to exchange, though, from plants blooming. List later.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Excellent!! Glad you will join us.
