Rebecca, he has 3 tall steel fence posts in a triangle around each one, and torn strips of what looks like old sheets to tie them up. He also has piles of compost or something, plus straw, built up about a foot from the ground around each. I cannot believe how thick the stems are! I thought they were sunflowers from across the street. I wonder how early he plants them. . . Another neighbor was telling me about them (she is also amazed, and has given up tomato gardening as hers as so puny compared to his, and he delivers boxfuls of tomatoes to her step regularly), and she said he builds a compost pile on half of his garden each year, and then the next year plants the tomatoes where the compost was the previous year. Hmmm. Must make a pest of myself and lurk in his alley, taking notes. . .LOL Think he'd call the cops if he saw me out there snapping pictures?

Love that peony poppy. I think I'm in love. A dear, wonderful lady on the poppy forum has d-mailed and offered to send me seeds of her hot pink peony-flowering poppy. I think I'm in heaven! Who needs opium, when there are lovely blossoms to enjoy??

Aha, the wonders of compost... I never seem to have enough, even though we compost everything we can get our hands on.

Pretty coneflowers, garden6. I have never smelled nicotiana - gonna have to grow it just so I can get a whiff! :-)

Thanks Rebecca... Mine give me a slight fragrance when I put my nose in the bloom during the day...but at night, sitting on he patio..the fragrance drifts sweetly with the breeze.

Booker~ you're right on about the blooms, so pretty, one doen't need a chemical high when you can enjoy the sights of the blooms.

Beautiful MG Shirley1md

Sis and I went to the movies the other day. I kept the super dupper sized cola cups, wonder why !!!!! LOL I love winter sowing and ready to do bigger and better this winter . Everything is looked at as a possible container.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Linda, the petunias you're seeing in that picture aren't wintersown, in fact MOST of the plants aren't, just the couple that I mentioned and a few others that I didn't mention, but thank you very much for the sweet compliment!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Linda: Thanks so much! I also love the Convolvulus tricolor. As far as I'm concerned, one can't have too many blue flowering plants in their garden!

Carrie: All your plants on your patio are looking very full and healthy. Good job!

I have a few things blooming, and lots of others nearly so. I can't wait to see the agastache "Honeybee White" that Critter sent me, as well as the Ox-eye false sunflowers. Both are sturdy, happy looking plants, and I think the agastache is getting its first buds!

Does anyone recognize the bud/plant? It is one I WSed, but I used Sharpie marker to label them, before I knew better, and I know it is something I planted, because it HAS a marker, but there are no longer any words on it! Can't wait to see what the blooms look like when they open!

Here is my potential bud on the agastache. Sure hope it's the real thing, not just more leaves forming! For the longest time, I thought there were buds on my new hydrangea, too, but each time it was just baby leaves. Now it FINALLY has tons of flower buds, too!

Did you sow Nigella...Love in a Mist? Maybe it's that. Congrats on you agastache. The bees go nuts for those:-)

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

Yes, I did sow nigella! I've never grown it before, but got it as part of a "Rare and Unique" seed collection from Park Seeds. Ooooh, I'm so excited! I'll watch it closely!

The poppies are to die for! And kcrma's new favorite rudbeckia is wonderful.

And the digitalis photos are amazing! I must have wintersowed the 'slow grow' varieties, as mine are still just low green leaves...I'll have to be sure to wintersow the 'Strawberry' version next year.

I've had pretty good luck with my wintersowing this year, but most are perennials and still tiny plants...with a little more sunshine this month I think they will get going, though.

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

I wintersowed red hot pokers...k. 'Traffic Lights'. They are so cute right now and my favorite ws perennials this year. Never thought that they'd work, but so happy they did:-)

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

TGG, you should put those in PlantFiles; there's an entry but no picture!

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

I'll have to wait until next year, prob. I'm sure that there won't be any blooms on it this year, but it's put out a cute little cluster of leaves....awwww! It's supposed to be a dwarf...got the seeds from T&M.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Well, put a picture of the leaves in PF - there are NO pix of all of anything, although there is a text entry. Please...

Metrowest, MA(Zone 6a)

I was going to say Nigella also.. I have some that look a lot like that one.

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

You were right, it is nigella! The bloom just opened today. I need to get out there with my camera! I suppose I should see if there are photos of that one in PF, while I'm at it. I've been trying to document everything in my garden by photo this year, so I remember what is where, and when it blooms.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

OK, these are not from this year's WSing, but were WSed, from bulbils, back in 2004. They took four long years to flower, but I think it was worth it!
