Anybody have any blooms yet on your Wintersown plants? I got my first one yesterday - this tiny single flower on this tiny little phlox plant. Pretty silly looking, but I was excited because it's my first WS bloom!
Any blooms yet?
Lemme think ... I've planted out so much stuff, and i have tons of stuff in blooms [most of which are last years WS'ed plants] ....
Pot marigolds, Nemesia [out of all the seeds, i had only 1 germinate. It bloomed, then my neighbors dog trampled it ... i put a 'cage' around it, so hopefully it survives.]
OH ... peony poppies just bloomed the other day.
and White Borage.
that may be it for my WS plants. I'd have to go out and survey the yard.
I have some things doing well in the blooming dept. Poppies are blooming themselves silly-the early ones like the corn poppies are finishing up now (yes, I collected seeds!), batchelor's buttons, corn cockle, and loads of calendula...Others are canary creeper vine, jap. morning glories, zinnias, coreopsis tinctoria, and sweet alyssum. Can you guess that I'm very happy that y'all convinced me to try this??!!!
Sounds beautiful you guys - any pictures to share?
Yes, i sure got blooms, I have them bloomin in the wintersow containers. Theres still many more to put out.
The tiny little seedlings I put out earlier in clumps are doing great.
I am so happy about this winter sowing that plans for Dec and Jan 09 are under way with even more types of seeds to plant.
This is a picture of Star of Yelta, Ipomoea (I think thats how you spell it)
seeds from a DG member, winter sow. Can't wait to see it bloom.

your picture is so pretty, whats a UMW forum?
We are soggy here too, lots of rain. Time for sunshine and dry for many.
We're having code red days due to a wildfire on the coast. Wish it would rain!!
I wish we could send some water to you from the midwest, we have too much this year.
Chele's been trying to send some down here since last year. We had exceptional drought conditions and things were tough. A wet spring helped ease that, but then the extra high heat with no rain for the last 2 wks has hurt! I hear that you all are dealing with way too much. Where is that super long hose when you need it, lol!?

Whoa...the floods! Everyone ok??
I do believe most are OK. some flooding... I know a few of the gals who are up here, in Wisc, have major flooding in the areas, but i think their homes are OK.
The folks in Iowa ... I'm not so sure about.
In Lake Delton, there were 5 or 6 homes destroyed when the lake 'went' ... as seen on the news.... but our area is fine.
Anitabryk2 what a great way to to share your WS blooms, you could frame that picture. I'm going to try that technique on my printshop, I like it!!!
Ths tcs1366 on the what those letters mean : )
Thanks Linda - by the way, if anyone is interested in my annual spring seed swap, sign up here --- http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/862988/
Shirley - those are from plants you germinated last year right? I thought Foxglove was biennial.
Anita: The Pansies were winter sown this past year. Everything else was winter sown in '07. Foxglove are biennials, but mine have flowered each year. Don't ask me why, but I'm very happy they have rewarded me with their beautiful blooms.
Great pictures, love this WS idea and you know I'm sold on it. In one of the threads I said a cold snap got some of my WS Nasturiums, well it was just the very top ones that over grew the coffee can.
The smaller ones made it, just lookie ^_^
They really put some sunny color in the veggie garden and I can eat em too, but to pretty to eat.
Ooh, so bright and pretty! I have some direct-seeded ones of those that haven't bloomed yet...

A lot of what I WS I could have just direct sown , but it was my first year to WS and I just had to try everything, lol 172 containers of everything, OHMGosh, I'm still planting out containers of plants.
Many seeds I just didn't get planted and will this coming January, I'm getting excited about planting seeds in the ice cold winter, lol.
It sure is something to watch how those tiny skinny seedlings become beautiful plants.
I love that last pic of the blue flower , very pretty.
Rebecca: Since I LOVE blue flowers, I'll have to add Nemophila to my list of seeds to grow next Winter.
Lindawalkabout: Bright bold colors on your Nasturtiums. Bet they add a bright spot to your garden!
Lindawalkabout - wow, that's a lot of jugs! You must have so many beautiful plants. I only did a few this year, but it was so much fun and worked so well I'll have to do more next year.
Shirley1md - the nemophila is very cute, but just to warn you it is TINY. :-)
Some more things are starting now...
Stocks 'Vintage Red'
Poppy 'Venus'
Rebecca, I think your Venus poppy is the one my neighbor is growing that I've been ooohing and aaaahing over! I can never catch him at home to ask him what it is! What kind of poppy is that? Foliage is so different from my Orientals.
I need to sit at his feet and learn from him about gardening--his tomatoes are almost 9 feet tall, and mine are still only knee-high! Funny thing is, he said he learned everything he knows about gardens from the guy who previously owned my house!
Angie
Hi Angie, it is a papaver somniferum var. paeoniflorum (peony poppy), which is an annual. I've tried growing poppies for several years, but this is the first year with any success. Winter sowing did the trick.
Wow, 9 foot tomatoes in Illinois - if you find out your neighbor's secrets please share! :-) What does he use for support, a rose arbor? :-)
