Go Gardening is confusing to me

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I was looking at my own profile thinking about adding wants and haves for trade. It says I have added 1 Go Gardening. When I looked within 25 miles of my house, there were at least 5 I had listed.

I also want to help with plant files more, but it is very time consuming. How many of you believe it is our 'duty' to help build up the plant files? When a group of us on the AV forum reworked the entire Gesneriad sections, we were up into the wee hours of the morning for several days. That was about 10 of us plus staff working day and night.

Truly I am confused about the necessity of adding plants and pics to the plant files. Granted that it was a lot more fun when we were doing the work as a group and visiting back and forth through the process.

We really need a streptocarpus larger plant file and a sinningia.........and other cousins in the gesneriad family.

Opinions? Or how to organize working together?

You've already come up with the best reason to add to PlantFiles. ^_^

OK, Joan! I think I will spend the hot summer days of south Texas adding to plant files. lol
Maybe I will post a thread on the AV forum and see if some of the die hard fans of the gessies might join in with me this summer.

If you need anything or have any questions, just let us know. Is there a database for the other genera in the Gesneriaceae family, other than the First Class for the Saintpaulia's, that you all use for reference?

I just talked to RainGazer who is so good at these plant files and she will be busy until after July 15th with her family. But she will help tell me what genera we do need and I will let you know, Joan. If you just set up the categories, then I can do it (LOL).

Thanks so much and when I get her list , I will get back to you. We have a Streptocarpus already set up, but Rain will give me the other in botanical terms.

Great! I would start with one genus at a time. If you want to check the PlantFile entries of the plants you have photos of and submit them and fill in the missing details, that would be a good place to start.

OK. I just went to the Gesneriad Reference Site and saw all the genera listed, so this is not going to be hard. At least now I can open Plant Files and be able to find what we do have.

Gail--on the Go Gardening question...did you create all those entries you're talking about, or were there entries for the nurseries already and you added your own review to them? When I look at your member page it says you added one entry and wrote reviews for 11, so I suspect maybe those other 5 are ones that you wrote reviews for but someone else had already created the entry for the nursery?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I added all of them........no one else from my area even was on DG at that time I added them...........but I truly don't care.........just wondering..........PHughes and I were the only ones nursery hopping in this area at the time .

There are 2 of them that had reviews written before yours by vossner so they look like they may have already been entered unless you added the nursery entry but came back later to add the review after she did.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I don't think I even knew that. I know Vossner as she comes down to Rockport to see relatives..........we visited about nurseries on DG.......so I have no idea...............could be she did enter them I am totally mistaken........

Don't ever pay to much attention to what I say as I can't even 'keep up with me'!

LOL, poor Gail! At least you are adding the reviews and that's what counts and will be helpful to future gardeners.

I am not only computer challenged but maybe a tad scattered also! I need to add a lot to the Go Gardening, but right now I am keeping Joan busy with my mistakes in trying to add to the plant files. She just may ask me to leave the files alone ^_^

It gets easier.
