Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol.5

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Noooo...more southwest... where we lived is layed out so wierd that our house sits at a really very odd angle and the girls had a teribble time trying to get the directions right!

My B&B are small but have already had the first blooms. I was afraid all that rain was going to drown the poor things!

Marlton, NJ

Very nice Mrs Ed! I haven't found any around yet so I bought the Lobelia today.

I'm sure the B&B will be around soon.

Another thing I found this year that they love is

Croftway Coral Princess Phygelius. I don't think it will overwinter and its not a great looker but my mature male goes crazy for it.

I found it at Lowes. Heres a pic.

Nice! He must think he's in tropical paradise

I have been busy filling the nectar feeders...and watching the Hummers inhale it!! Last night I had close to 40 of the little birds and wish I could have gotten a pic showing many of them sitting on the branches I have laid across the top of my chain link fence. It would have looked like an Alfred Hitchcock movie if they weren't so darn cute!! Anyway, here are a few pics from a few days ago. I feel so lucky to have these lovely creatures here! If I wasn't retired I would have to call in sick as it would be a crime to miss this show!

This little female looks like she is missing some feathers at the back of her head.

Rose, how fortunate are you? They're gorgeous. Great shots.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

FORTY? Are you kidding me? Sheesh. Would you like me to send you my feeders since I've seen three all season?

I wish I could remember what fellow posted a pix last year of about a dozen feeders strung along his clothes line.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I think rose is hording hummers, Mrs. Ed!

If it weren't for the ones I spot on the wires...heavens I would hardly have ay pics! They come & go so fast during the day, but come about 9:15-9:30pm we are as busy as all get out! Just is not a great time for picture taking. :(

Friday night walk..taken around 7pm. The camera says 6pm but I have never changed it when we went to Daylight Saving Time!

Yah, i've been sitting out at 8:30-9ish in hopes that I'll have some visitors. Nope. nothing. I guess there's only a little hope left that they'll show up when more flowers bloom. Otherwise I'll wait until August.

Hey, ROAD trip to ROSE'S!!!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

We will be here waiting patiently...

My friends always bring their husbands when they visit and they go Trout fishing at Bennett Springs! If your DH fishes...he needs to come too...the more the merrier!!

Thanks Burn...they are fun aren't they?!! That pic of the one in the tree really shows how tiny they are!!

Do you think this is a Juvie Female? Her coloring on top of her head looks unfinished!

Beautiful pics guys!

I've had hummingbirds here for quite a while but they've been so shy I haven't been able to get a shot.
Finally today the female was brave enough to sit still for a while, unfortunately the sun was behind her but I'm still happy with them.

She is pretty girl Pelle! They just don't seem to be lingering here either. Ed chase everyone way too, so that doesn't help!

This is our other male we have around...he is a litlle more cooperative...but not much!

Great shots Rose! Your so lucky to have so many.

great shots rose!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

ROSE! Glad to see you around and your little hummies too. that first male is an adorable puff ball.

I still have none. I think I'll take my feeders down until I see some at the flowers. I have a big beautiful trumpet vine in bloom right now and still nothing. I just don't see the point in making new sugar water and cleaning and refilling every 3 days for nothing.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks Pelle, Nanny and Mrs. Ed! They are sure a lot of fun to watch! In the evening hours they perch on the back fench...it looks so cute to see so many of them perching together.

Marna...I hope the trumpet vine does it for you...I've heard they really love it!!

Glad to see you still get a lot of them Rose, they have diminish here, I only have a few coming now. Lovely shot of yours.
Marna, I heard the trumpet vine is a magnet for hummers, and wish for you they'll show up soon. I'd miss them terribly, if I didn't see them here.
Good shots Pelle and Nanny.

This from yesterday.
