We walked the Japanese Garden, strolled thru the Conifer collection, smelled the roses and , of course, gazed at the lilies. Everything was well marked and labeled.
MARLS Lily Show in St. Louis !
Oh--I'd forgotten the blown glass tenacle things... A huge chandlier-like thing hung from the ceiling of the main entrance building. I'm sure it was difficult to make & install--but is it ART?
It's been a few days since I laughed, but those buxomly ladies frolicking in the garden ponds gave me a chuckle.
Yeah, that's it!
Hmmm. Nikki is certainly NOT my style. Although I could see the tentacles being arranged in a pleasing way. (We didn't he do that?)
Seems I am just as picky with my art as I am with plants.
Those glass sculptures are probably by Dale Chihuly, a very famous and well known glass blower/sculptor. His stuff hangs all over the Mayo Clinic and elsewhere. I really like his work. I'd take that arch, of course, one hail storm in Iowa and it would be toast.
Diann
When I saw those glass sculptures I thought they were sooooo Chihuly!
So did I. I love his stuff. Can't afford a chip off one of them, but still love his stuff.
Now the lions I could live with! I didn't know who did all that blown glass stuff, but it was better than the Nikki stuff. JMHO
The lion is pretty darn cute!
I'd take that arch, of course, one hail storm in Iowa and it would be toast.
But it would sure be fun watching it go "down".
Oh yeah... Wouldn't it tho.. :) LOL
They are still there.
I much prefer the old Japanese fishing globes to those crosses of squashes and Hershey's kisses.
Leftwood, that's the perfect description! Almost seems like we focused on what we didn't like, but there was so much to see and so many areas to walk through, that it was easier to capture the startling items and art than all of the beauty in the gardens.
I really enjoyed the lush tropical gardens in the geodistic dome. The martagons &blooming lilies were colorful.
And then we drove around construction and closed highways for an hour until we found the St. Louis Zoo. Everyone else was leaving by then,so we got a great parking space!
I liked watching the Hippos pop up and swim by the underwater window.
They're just the cutest things ~ too bad they don't have the personality to match.
Yep, Wanda was truly fascinated by the grace of the 'waterhorse'. Watching them move through the water in what looked like effortless and graceful moves was quite impressive for such a large animal.
Sue had to drag me away....
You guys make every thing a big adventure .
just think how much fun you will have at show
with hundreds of Lillie's and no glass thingies to distract you
and if any one bring in a Surprise Lilly aka( naked lady bulb )
by mistake it will be a riot !
We're heading to Chicago to student judge a show in a week. They should have LOTS of stems showing. Have Show, will go!
Go girls go
deem worthy and judge your little heart out
How about a daylily by mistake? Wanda had to refer people to the Hemerocallis table last winter at the Kirkwood Winter Gardening Fair. Even one of the folks running the event didn't realize there was a difference. :) LOL
How funny ^_^
And kind of scary...
When the local Hemorcallis Society have to argue with me about thier "lilies" vs my "lilies", it makes me want to pull my hair out! I enjoy my daylilies, but they are not much of a challenge since they grow anywhere---
The St. Louis MARLS Show had a huge exhibit that contrasted daylilies vs lilies perfectly. I felt like tucking it under my arm & slipping out with it...
