What plants do you seek?
I thought maybe you could each write 5 plants that you would like to aquire for your garden. This does not mean it will be there but maybe we can get a better idea of what things are desired. For me it's easy...I have tons of stuff and I can share and realize some don't have the place or have only just begun aquiring plants and can not. So this is a great way for me to unload ^_^ and help my DG friends too!
This is one of the Iris's making the trip....
What are you looking for/would like to see brought to the RU
Nobody wants anthing special? Cool Beans....this is going to be easy.
Ok,I speak up first.
Five choices you said ,since I left so many irises behind when we moved I would love to have any Iris,Iris,Iris :-))))
Iris
Daylily
Hardy geranium
Lily
Violets,purple or Viola
Thank you,
Brigitte

There are a bazillion buds on them.
Nancy

I don't think I have SPACE for anything.
It's the beginning of June & I'm already walking sideways between the pots.
Nancy
I'll have to try to remember all of the 'wants' that Anna and I have for the gardens. And, I'll have to start looking at our stuff and getting it potted up in nice, clean, labeled pots.
I have a couple of baby lupine I can dig up and lots of heirloom tomatoes. I'd like bearded iris and perennial geraniums if anyone has those to spare.
thanks!
Deb
There are things I want (The iris for example)
Anything for pretty heavy shade would be great.
The State of CT pulls up all it's tulips every year and gives the bulbs away. I have a small box and the bulbs are almost all split into multiple bulbs and they don't have any greenery or live roots. My question is - will the bulbs be OK if I ask for a sack full (the sacks I saw were 75 punnds!) and bring them to the RU? Do I need to sort through them or store them in any way special? Is anyone even interested? We think they are yellow tulips and red tulips.
I would be interested, Cat.
I have lamium, and several types of heuchera ('Firefly', 'Silver Scrolls' and 'Purple Palace' and the guest one which has moved in), all of which do well in shade, David. I also have monarda (I think, Raspberry Wine and ___), Autumn Whichever sedum (I got it at a RU, so I don't know), coneflower (if I can figure out what to dig up) and regular white yarrow (if DH will relinquish it). Also, I have Achillea 'Paprika' and 'Love Parade', and columbine 'Tequila Sunrise', oh, also some anonymous low-growing perennial geranium that I got in a trade that turned out to be identical to what I already have, pink-magenta bloom. Always spearmint and coreopsis 'moonbeam'.
I would be interested in irises (but not big fancy bearded ones just ordinary purple ones are fine). I'm also interested in Amy's zillions of blue pimpernels (?).
BUT, I don't know whether I'm coming. Please let me know if you want any of the named stuff and I'll start some in a (sterilized) pot for you and send it if I can't make it there!
oooh. i want silver anything. (and black.)
Michaela, i will try again with the happy returns. sigh.
My list of haves once i go copy it.
Gee, Carrie, I do hope you can come to the RU! You have a magenta hardy geranium???? I am SURE that has my name on it! and the moonbeam coreopsis - oh, I guess I have to edit my want list so I only have five . . . .
Yes, a DG friend in UTAH sent it all the way to Massachusetts and it's the twin to the one I already have in the ground! (Identical twins in different states separated at birth!) I'm hoping for a blue-er one or a paler one - I WSed one or two but I think I have to wait for next spring to see what they look like.
And I have Moonbeams for everyone - just say the word and I'll start one for you. I'm getting good at plants for postage too, just in case!
Excellent - I want the moonbeam coriopsis for the East garden on the terrace.
Those of you who wish to gain some of the iris for your own gardens ... would you be interested in the Siberian Iris? Anna will be digging up several large clumps, so she says that you'll have all you want.
Absolutely!
Are these the grape kool-aid smelling kind of irises? If so - count me in!
Candyce, what can I bring you guys?
OK then, the iris are a definite 'bring along' for Anna and me. I have no idea what would strike my fancy, or what would strike Anna's fancy. We like to 'shop' the Round Up ~ LOL!!!
Seriously, Anna insists that we have no more space for plants, but I know she will look everything over and choose quite a few to stow in the trunk. Me, though? I'd like some hosta ... and any hosta will do.
So, there's no pressure to add Anna and me to any special 'save for' lists, OK? We'll bring what we can bring though. And, we'll be so happy to see all of you!
- bump -
I'd love some heuchera. Thanks
OK, seedlings or divisions i have:
strawflowers (you canNOT believe how many): tall double mix
black peppermint
coreopsis: nana
liriope: plain, with purple flowers. unkillable.
dianthus: firewitch
dianthus: bath's pink
dianthus: the amazing perennial annual dianthus
basil: sweet
oregano
some:
blue pimpernel
pennyblacks
cupid's dart (maybe the slowest growing thing i've ever tried, but it is a perennial, so maybe someday it will bloom)
dianthus seeds (if they come true): sternkissen, tiny rubies (which are pink) i can also do tiny divisions of these - they are ittybitty dianthus
dill
dusty miller "silver lace" if they are big enough to bring.
marigold "Disco Mix" - some reseeded from last year. If only the groundhogs would learn they are not supposed to like them.
and a couple of :
"annual" dahlias - colors unknown so far
gazania: pink shades
red basil
amaranth "Early Splendor"
seeds i can bring or happily mail if you want them sooner:
cosmos "Summer Dreams"
sunflower "Vanilla Ice"
sunflower "Evening Sun"
dill: fernleaf
basil: sweet
morning glory "Bright Eyed Girl"
Go here to see what I am bringing so far. Will add to it as I pot them up!!
http://davesgarden.com/community/blogs/t/pixie62560/9545/
nice stuff pixie.... well i have two flats of cuttings for you guys... and not sure how many blanket flowers yet... going to pot them up tomorrow after work... my guess it will be quite a few... and I have a bunch of foxglove
any one want some of the wandering jews.... since all the cuttings rooted we have wayyyy too many... the cuttings are in a flat of potting soil no holders.... but i can always separate some if need be
Allison....I do not have even one Foxglove in my garden, I will be very interested in getting one please!
I have lots.... some i still have to pot up.... from the winter sowing.... hopefully i can get it done... with the crazy hot weather it's been hard keeping the cow pots moist... some of them are showing signs of stress... but usually once in the ground they spring back... i am doing my best to keep them alive till then.... but i am sure there will be quite a few of them...
oh and i have those widows tears things... the one that something like trascanta (don't have the energy to look up the name sorry).. I dug them up last year and they came back just fine.. even with my crummy soil in the pots with them
I am off to pass out... talk to you tomorrow
Celeste, I think it's brilliant how you made that blog about all the plants you're bringing. Then, if people get home and can't remember what they got, they could just look at your list. Nice idea!
I have nothing to bring from my garden, but I might pick up a flat or two of annuals. Any specific types anyone?
I'm bringing fresh hellebore and bleeding heart seeds, a couple lilacs, a lily-of-the-valley and a bleeding heart baby. (Pixie, you have 3 baby hostas.)
How hard are the Helleborus to start ?
I can trade you some unusual MG seeds if you want ,some I just got from Korea.
Great stuff, Celeste. You are more than generous, as usual. And we love you for that!
Eglantyne - I have no idea how hard they are to start. VIctorGardener - do you know? If you aren't coming to the I can mail you some seeds.
Celeste, I agree, that is an extremely clever way to share what you're bringing! No wonder you needed all those cleaned pots! How kind - and how advanced you are to know what's what!
For instance, I'm sure I could bring some New England Asters - except I always forget about them until they bloom! But I'm definitely adding creeping phlox to my list - anyone know how to lift their little roots up without upsetting them? Because then I could bring fifteen baby creeping phlox, which otherwise might just be one or two.
AYankeecat,
I am pretty sure I am coming this year.Looking forward to it.
My gardens are new as of last year so don't know what I am bringing but I will bring something in addition to the iris. Also have a good size clump of Stella's.
Celeste,I think my iris are the same as yours or very simular but I will bring them anyway.
i would like some mint of an edible kind - spearmint or peppermint - the black peppermint i grow is not for cooking. i'm guessing someone must have some extra..?
I tried growing hellebore from seed twice... can take 3 years for some to germinate.... put it in the fridge for 3 months take it out for three months... put them in the fridge for 3 months.... well you get the idea.... i had no luck... after a year i gave up and threw them out
TM has good instructions on seed starting.... but it depends on which kind you have
