Very cute baby jays grandmaggie. They don't look old enough to fly. Are they hopping around and learning survival skills from the parents?
DAILY PICS-VOLUME 116
My neighbor has three Bullocks nests, and they go to the willow thicket at the creek often, but these are very secretive birds! I've got photos down at Herbert's pond and at families in Roseburg, but no luck here. I even put out oranges, both here and at the neighbors. The only takers are the Black-headed Grosbeak.
This image was taken at the pond.
How can you spot a juvie Hairy or Downy Woodpecker if you don't see them come with an adult?
I got this pic this morning, and I was wondering if it might be a juvie Hairy.
edited to fixe typo's and make a complete thought!!

Beautiful pics guys!
It's an adult female Hairy - a juvenile would have a dull red spot on the TOP of the crown (c.f. adult male a bright red spot at the rear of the crown, adult female no red).

My baby jays are doing nicely yes first hopping up on branches. Now flying! And the parents calling them is so cute and quite loud! GM
Thanks Resin...I couldn't figure out how you can tell!
