drizzle drizzle drizzle. Good thing i own so many plant stakes - they are being put to good use these days.
I really like the Dragonfly logo - in fact, I want a t-shirt with him on it! Best of luck to you in getting that business up & running.
Kathy - I guess i missed the Doofus doofing...I'll go back & check that one out.
Umbrellas - I have clear ones for my tenders. work like a charm - never thought about the regular type umbrella - excellent idea, Pooch! Are they utilized to keep the darker colours from fading in bright sun?
Finally - sick of wearing Polar Fleece. In June, no less.....
For all us PNW from Jeff Foxworthy (smile)
OH for more than ONE LIFE TO LIVE
its windy but we have SUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and its not to cold. so i went out and planted about 20 plants that have been sitting there waiting for me for about 2 weeks, including 4 red husker penstemons i got in a trade awhile back. they had filled the 4" completely.
i shoul do some weeding but i need to make dinner soon. anyone ever make hamburgers on toasted english muffins? sooooo good, even better on the sourdough ones.
Lived in Seattle for 30 years and I still am amazed when the sun is shining here!!!! I miss wearing Polar Fleece!!!
Hi Aloha! I'm sure that there is someboy there that would love to actually be able to part with their polar fleece and know that they would still stay warm!
I talk to my son in Bellingham and it sounds horrible (the weather!). I remember one year we had summer on a Friday and everyone took a 3 day weekend!!!
Hi Carol - are you on the mainland, or still in Keaau?
Please send some real sun from HI - none of that liquid sunshine, OK? =:0)
Don't forget to give me a call when you get over here - although I would wait a bit. We'll need that sunshine request filled first. Low 50's today - that's winter for you!!!
In Keaau... send me a Dmail with your phone number and I will call when I get over in the fall. Will try to send over some sunshine....and, BTW, we could use the rain!!!
Trade you sun for rain, Aloha.
Gosh, Redchic, I missed your post about how you don't know your own weather. Some people can be mighty 'helpful' can't they? I believe that's called having too much time on one's hands.
Re umbrellas, I have a good sized summertime umbrella, the kind you put in the middle of a picnic table, that you can stick into the ground. Since my ground has way too many rocks to stick anything in it, I made a portable (sort of) base for it out of a black plastic pot, concrete, and pvc pipe. So now whenever it's either too sunny (as IF) or raining and I want to be outside and have both hands, I set that up and move it around with me. Works like a charm, except that the base is pretty heavy. So I have to really want to move it before I do so.
Yep Pixy! I agree about those "mighty helpfull" folks and I think that you're right about the cause.... to much time! If you want to check out the thread it's on the japanese maples forum, not to hard to find. there's something about a red maple in the title. Hind site, I'm beginning to wish that I had replied with something, but odds are good that it's better that I didn't. Oh well, I like it better here anyhow!
I like your umbrella idea to, that's really good. I need to rig up something like that!

redchic01 A bit late on this response, but having lived there 32 years, when it is absolutely pouring outside,
they just wait it out. They don't have the constant drizzle, just massive cloud dumps.
When we moved here I signed my four year old up for soccer, and at the first practice it started raining,
so I just assumed that practice was over and went to my car to wait for my son. They kept playing!
That was my first exposure to, it ain't gonna quit, so you shouldn't either.
Yep, I agree completely neo, but it's definitely a tempting thought! In all the years that I've been working outside (15) we're preparred for this in the fall and get used to the cold and rain and then snow. It's definitely the mindset..... it wants sun!!! And I almost can't believe, so I'm wondering when it's going to start pouring, but the sun is out!! there's some blue skies!!!
One time I wanted sun so badly I went to a tanning booth,
even knowing how bad it was for my skin. I put on sunscreen first and just basked in the warmth.
Hooray!! The sun is out (for today at least.) The birds are singing and I'm happy, happy, happy! I bought DH one of those light machines, helps with the gloomy moodies.
I don't mean to butt in, but the list at the beginning of this thread reminded me of a trip I took to Hawaii one year. I went to a luau - there was a couple of big buses full of people out on the beach in the middle of an area that used to be sugarcane fields. It started to rain and everyone was running around passing out garbage bags trying to stay dry, huddled under the eaves of the few buildings that were there. There was another small group of ladies sitting in the rain at another table. When I joined them I found out they were from Portland. We all sat there and laughed at all the people in green garbage bags wishing we could take the rain home to Oregon. It was great!
Just a bunch of us gabbing, pretty sure your not butting in. Glad you joined in with your story. That would've been a great sight to see!
way to funny got2begreen!! i live on the south coast here too and we took a crusie to alaska last year and a few places we disembarked it was slightly drizzly. but before that we over heard some people at the table next to us that they were NOT going to go out in this horrid weather. "im not going to get drenched" omgoodness... it was barely sprinkling. we were like sooooo????????? this is typical oregon weather so off we went and had a great time! now tell me who would pay 3,000 bucks for a cruise and just sit on your patooty on the boat if it was sprinkling and miss your port of call?? stupid tourist!
a few of the hundreds of pic i took up there.
this one is the alaskan botantical gardens. they were ok... not as kept up as i think they should have been but was interesting. beyod the garden and attached sort of is part of the iditerod trail and we went hiking on that for a bit... on the lookout for bear and moose always!
Whoever would sit on their buttooty after paying that much is someone who doesn't appreciate their money or time!!!! well, IMO anyways. Those are great pictures. I know someone who grew up in skagaway, they had a lot of very interesting stories!
Wonderful pics. Especially that snow plow. Would love to see it in operation.
I remember the rain in Hawaii. It was always warm, so it was refreshing. Loved walking on the beach in the drizzle.
We did a cruise to Alaska for our honeymoon in 03. One of the excursions we went on was a rainforest hike. When our tour guide asked us where we were from they were surprised that we would go all the way to Alaska and pay money to see the same rainforest that stretches from Oregon to Alaska. We felt like dorks. We aren't really the hikin' in the woods type of people and didn't know.
Redchic, that is gorgeous..blue skies...sigh
got2B, if you had fun what did it matter? They were the dorks to question why you were there.
Exactly You had fun... dorks or not! And you learned something about your own forest! :-p Cocoa maybe, just maybe the weather is working it way towards you! I don't know, the weather has been so frustrating lately that I haven't been watching the reports.
We did have fun and we saw a lot of things that I had either never seen before or always overlooked - kinda like the nose on your face - you don't see it until you look for it. Walking with someone who knew the names of things and some of the natural history of the area was nice too.
and.. you were one of the few who knew that the rain wouldn't melt you!
I am so glad you didn't let "them" stop you from enjoying it. Sometimes vacations are the only time you can relax and enjoy whatever surroundings you encounter. I used to laugh, we had a swimming pool in our backyard in AZ but always swam when we went to a hotel and enjoyed it more because we took the time.
that's sooo true!
that's an awesome picture. I'm sure that there's something that I missed... but what is the plant "dinasour food"
got2B, Great picture thanks for sharing....Good night all.
Here is a link:

And I can't spell - it is Dinosaur Food. Giant Rhubarb.

ahhhh yes, gunnera that makes perfect sense now. That's probably the only plant that I've ever really been afraid to plant! Just not sure of something that can get to be a third the size of a house! And it's only marginally hardy in my zone... so why push it, i'll just look at your pictures!
lol :)
how old is your plant??
Shokami - ditto to redchic's question.
