Great selection of pics today, romance is in the air today here too Mrs Ed, I got heaps of pics of a pair of Doves but it's late so they will have to wait.

I got some pics of the poor little House Sparrow! A female landed on the guttering near me when I was trying to get pics of a Swallow on the electric cable. She was hanging down looking at me, then flew to the cable about 4 feet away. I don't think she could make sense of why I was there, lol, after looking confused she flew away with her bit of peanut in her mouth still.

I can imagine it now: "Where's my belly button? Why don't I have one? Who stole my belly button? I'm sure I have one if I can just turn my neck a little bit further to see it..."

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Yay, another in the belly button series!!

Nanny, Congratulations on the White -breasted Nuthatch fledglings!!!

Thanks Resin. I was pretty sure it had something to do with plummege, just wasn't sure of the ages. Interesting that sea-birds may take that long! Thanks!

Thanks Pelle, It was interesting , he stayed for quite a while. I was sitting close to the pond, when he came in. Which surprised me. He usually don't stick around, when I'm out there. Earlier in the day, I saw him gathering cobwebs, for nesting. Unfortunately not nesting in my yard. He flew toward the other Ave.

I can't even begin to catch up - maybe on the weekend. I think I'm about five threads behind.

Been busy building an ark!

Here are a couple of sweet goldfinch pics shot through the window screen. Can't open the windows because of attacks by the unofficial Minnesota state bird.

Oh yes, I remember those black flies, they are the state bird of Maine too. Certainly don't miss those!
Here's a group of sleeping mallard ducklings that have been raised in one of the quadrangles at work.

Sybil,

LOL! I thought that was another type of insect that everyone hates in the Summer. ( at a loss right now how to spell it correctly ).

Marilyn,

I believe the spelling you are looking for is mosquito, unless you want the Latin, Anopheles (species varies).

They are coming out here in Iowa too, especially with all our recent rain. My phoebe seems to be struggling to keep up with them!

Claire

Let's here it for the Phoebe. go go go.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

She has 5 babies, they are all hungry, I just can't figure out why she can't catch all the mosquitoes on my 5.5 acres! LOL! I think I'd need an army of phoebes for that.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Call in the swallows!! That reminds me, I haven't seen our bats yet.

CMoxon,

LOL! That's it! :-) Thanks for the correct spelling!

I couldn't think of the correct spelling, because it's probably the unseasonably high heat we're having! It was 90 yesterday, 92 today and most of the upcoming week is suppose to be 90+. :-(

Our avg. high is 79/80 right now and 87 is the avg. high we get in the middle of July!

Love the bug eaters but no, they cannot keep up. I've never seen anything like this crop. Huge with teeth.

Brainerd, MN

kniphofia - Black flies will follow soon enough. Sigh.
