Daily Pics - Volume 115

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Time for the next thread! Wow, I can't believe we're on volume 115. There sure are some prolific photographers on this forum! Here's where we came from: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/856748/

Today I really enjoyed watching the birdbath and fountain. It was very hot out, in the upper 90's and the birds were very appreciative when I went out to put some water in the bath.

Mrs. P. Bunting made an appearance shortly after I filled the bath, but unfortunately her husband never showed.

I was very happy to see her enjoying herself.

She sure was having a grand ol' time! I was just sure Mr. Painted Bunting would come around, but I guess he was off on other business.

Next Mr. Cardinal and Mrs. House Finch came around to have a drink together. You don't think there's something going on between them, do you?

No, Mr. and Mrs. House Finch appear very happy together.

Love is definitely in the air. There was lots of cooing and tail bobbing going on between these two White Wing Doves.

This little wren was just as cute as he could be. Looks like a baby, from the way he's sitting on the fence.

I'm a day late for the "swallow thread", but there were THOUSANDS of swallows at Lake Spenard - Hood Lake portion of Anchorage Int. Airport this evening, (Monday my time). I had never seen so many swallows, at one time, before! Mostly Bank Swallow, a good portion of Tree Swallows, very few Cliff Swallows. Violet-green Swallows were missing, even-though they are the most common near my house.

This is a new species for the "swallow thread", a Bank Swallow.

At times a numbers of birds would land on the ground, something I had never observed before, in swallows. Courting and mating seemed to be at least part of the reason for landing.

The neighborhood osprey nest is still busy with young birds. The crow was teasing the father osprey with a piece of "food". The osprey was pointedly ignoring the crow. Finally the crow got bored and left.

Wonder how intelligent that crow is?? Was it trying to tempt the Osprey away from the nest, so it could get in to grab a chick? Somehow, I suspect that's beyond crow intelligence, despite how clever they are.

First she was putting worms on the driveway for the Mother, who would pick them up and go to the babies. Now looks like she's in full Grandma babysitting mode! I'd like to find a robin to train like that!

I checked the box it has 2 new babies in it, 3 have not yet hatched. We had a storm yesterday and I was happy that the nest was nice and dry.

Here she is flying into the box to feed the little ones (she is a 2nd Cousin Dave wannabe)!

Back at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm, most of the GWE and Tricolored Heron young are flying. The Snowies and Cattle Egret are still hanging close to their nest. The immature Tricolored Heron are especially comical.

The adult Cattle Egrets must have been out feeding. I only saw a few of them in the trees. The young Great White Egrets are now as big as their parents. The same thing with the young Wood Storks. Wonder how the trees can support all that weight?

Rose, Congratulations on the Bluebird babies!

bsharf, Wonderful shots! Those juveniles are comical!

nanny, Nice shots of the bluebirds!

I sometimes get distracted when making dinner. I don't have any suet out, so not too many of these come in right now, but I liked the way this one was looking for bugs. (photo taken just minutes ago)
