Storm Fear

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Does anyone else suffer from fear of storms? I moved from California to Arkansas in the beginning of April of '07 and I don't remember worrying about storms like I am now. I was born and raised in Modesto, CA, which gets about 2 thunderstorms a year. My family had traveled to the South numerous times in the '80's and I never worried about it, when I moved here we rented an apartment until we could find a house and jobs and I didn't worry about it, now that I have a house and job all I do is worry about it, it's nuts! Everyone says it's because of all the tornado activity this spring, but the news said last spring Arkansas had 16 tornados, I never knew that, I didn't watch or worry about it then and I was here.
What do you all do about this type of fear? I'm having a storm shelter built in a week or so and am thinking about getting one of those surge protectors you put on the outside of your house where the powerlines connect to protect from lightning strikes.

Hi Crissy,

I don't find your fears any different than fears others have. Myself, I have
the fear of being smothered or suffocated.

Because we live in the valley, I feel pretty comfortable. While a tornado may
not come to get us, we are still susceptible to severe storms, which we are
having as I type this.

A storm shelter is a good thing. Hopefully you will never have to use it, but
a very wise choice, especially with your concerns - which are perfectly understandable.

(((Hug))) Thanks Karen Marie! We just got through with the same seviere storm you had earlier today. It came south right into Central Arkansas. It uprooted a whole bunch of my sunflowers gggrrrrr!!!! I wish it would quit raining so I can go out and fix them. I feel like a big chicken sometimes, especially when my husband likes to stand outside during this.

Which he shouldn't do.

He'll stand on the back or front porch and watch it. I noticed this evening, after walking by it a bunch yesterday and about 5 times this evening, that the logs building up dirt right beside the walkway, were struck, here's some pictures:

This one you can tell how close to the house those logs are.

Wow, it really was close. I'm glad it wasn't your house.
