Ah Sally . . . I hear you. But PLEEASE stop smoking! I'd rather have you chunky and alive!!
(I smoked 2 packs/day for about 20 years. Quit 25 yrs ago and I, too, am a larger woman than I used to be, but I'm healthier and I smell good! Geez- at $5/pack, I don't know how ANYONE still smokes. Between the cigs and gas, you have to be wealthy these days.
Love you however you are!

Straw Bale Gardening t-shirt design for preview
i've tried everything on the market, and my problem is, i love my cigarettes. cost isn't a factor because we roll our own. filtertip kings only cost about 8.00 a carton.i started rolling mine about 8 years ago.thanks for caring. yo fat bud ,sally
Sally,
I quit smoking when Rocky first came out. Yo, Adrian! :-)
A pack of Marlboros were 45 cents and about 8.50/carton.
I definitely didn't quit from disliking a good smoke, that's for sure, especially after a meal.
But, glad I did. I can't believe the price of smokes now.
Here's a few oldie goldies for those who remember cigarette ads on TV:

thanks, kent, and yes, salem was my smoke. got off the menthol to plain smokes, and that was hard. heck i've even been hypnotized to help me quit. as long as i continue to reward myself, i'll never quit. i'm on my second round of chantix. i wish they would make them illegal.i really do. sally
Funny now to see those old commercials, Kent... although I WAS hoping for the dancing Old Gold pack(s)... :)
Yes you have to want to quit to do it. It was Tareyton I started with. I quit smoking about 19 years ago. Five years after I quit woke up one morn and could not breathe. I have COPD(chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). Had not had any problems before then so was a good thing I quit or would probably be dead. I enjoyed it too. But please try. Took me 5 years not to want one. And I did gain weight but my husband said he would rather have me.My bales are doing alright. My eggplant is coming along but my 2 first bales look like they were from last year they broke down in a hurry. They looked nice and yellow at first, only 2 months old. But the ones my eggplants are in still look good. Strange. deanna
Oh my gosh Kent... I forgot just how "healthy" and fresh they used to make smoking seem, even Doctor recommended.

"So round , so firm, so fully packed" I remember that saying, but forgot where it came from *LOL*
I saw a smoking ad for sale on eBay that encouraged pregnant women to smoke to keep their weight down.
I'm also a former smoker, although I still miss the activity.

Man, we sure got off topic on this thread! :-)
Cute, Kent... Thanks :)
I've tried almost everything to quit smoking. I'm beginning to think I just need to put them down, deal with the discomfort, and hope I can stay away from them! That's how my dad quit after 40+ years of smoking.
I did the same as your dad. 40+ years. And I really enjoyed smoking. However 6 years ago I ended up in ICU for 5 weeks and then in an inpatient home to get my muscles moving again. After that I decided the nicotine was out of my system so I would be stupid to start again even tho I had really liked them. That was in 2002. I can count on one hand the times I have
caught myself wanting one. And let me tell you, I live with a chain smoker. Have for 20 years. I find myself wanting one more during conversations like this, about quitting. More than the smell of the smoke in my life.
I think the reason I never quit before was because people told me they always wanted one. The rest of their lives they wanted a cigarette. I thought, why put myself thru that. So I never tried to quit.
Well, that is BS. After 40 years of smoking I hardly miss them at all.
Jeanette
Jeanette,
That's great, and smart thinking! I'll keep your experience about the cravings in mind!
My dad kept a pack of cigarettes and matches in his top kitchen cabinet for a long while after he quit. He said knowing they were there and resisting the temptation helped (security blanket, I guess). He said if they hadn't been there he would have had a panic attack, lol. I guess it's whatever you have to do to get the job done, lol.
Bev
But please don't do it my way, via the ICU. lol
Jeanette
Jeanette, I'd prefer not to go down the exact path as you, LOL, just the same non smoking result.
Bev
I was a crazed smoker- 2 packs a day for almost 20 years! I'd get up and get dressed to drive out and get more if I was running out in the middle of the night! I gave it to my son for one of his birthday gifts when he turned 11 (he used to harass me about smoking)- he would have been 37 this year. They were about 75cents/pack then. I loved smoking, but not getting bronchitis and pneumonia every year, and didn't want to go through life smelling like an ashtray!
If you really want to quit, give it to someone you truly love as a gift (and then tell EVERYONE you know that you've quit, so they can keep an eye on you!!) I found that, while I can easily lie to myself, I couldn't ever lie to my son, so that was the way to do it!
xox Suz
Suz, I would be so afraid of disappointing someone very special with the "gift" plan. But, I guess that's the point, to not let them down.
Bev
Exactly! If you didn't care about disappointing them, it wouldn't work! In the end, you're the only one who can decide whether you'll succeed or not . . . it was my fail-safe plan.
I wish you success (not luck- luck has nothing to do with it).
Bev, how many cigarettes have you smoked just reading this? I found that conversations like this made me smoke more and more.
Bev, I don't know how to help you, because what works for one will not work for others. You just have to find your own way, but you have to want to. I didn't. I really enjoyed it. I used to tell people that preached to me to shove it. All it did was p--- me off and reach for another cigarette. And I would do the same today. That might be the one thing that would make me start smoking again. Sanctimonious people. Cut off my nose to spite my face. dumb.
Folks, I don't think this is what the topic is supposed to be on this thread. See what you started Kent?
Jeanette
LOL, yes we went way off topic... sorry y'all!
Is tobacco considered a veggie?
a veggie? that's my laugh of the day . tee hee. sally
Hmmm . . . didn't mean to be sanctimonious- was trying to offer my help. Can only speak for what worked for me.
LOL, Thanks for the D-Mails.
Jeanette
I'm interested in a couple of shirts, what ever the cost. When it's ready let me know trying to intreste a local seniors group into bale gardening. Might be we will neeed shirts for their organization. Just annouce it when ever. Thanks.
Bohunker, can you download the image, print it off onto transfer paper, and iron onto T-shirts for your group? ...make it a group project, or something?
All: I've been so busy here lately.
Just got back from a week of chaperoning some of our church kids at summer camp, then jumped right into my 110th family reunion, then back to work tomorrow.
As the old saying goes, I need to get back to work to get some rest!
I would love to see someone take this t-shirt project on because it looks like I'm just not going to have the time or energy at this point.
Feel free to use the artwork as Sundownr suggested to make your own shirts, or take the artwork to your local screenprinter.
Spring is just around the corner so I am ready for my T-shirt. I will be getting the bales cooking in a few weeks.
What is going on with this t-shirt deal?
Thanks,
Jerry
Jerry, a little bird just whispered in my ear. Stay tuned! :-)
We may have found an outlet, or method, for everybody to buy a Straw Bale T-shirt that wants one. Give us a about a week and we'll let you know how it turns out.
Bev
I want one for sure. also just met a delightful man from Canyon Lake at a chili cookoff here in Rockport Tx .Gosh, those ribs and briskit was the best! digger
ANNOUNCEMENT: Straw Bale T-Shirts can now be purchased here: http://www.cafepress.com/Strawbale
just ordered mine! yaaaa whoo!
Thanks to whom ever set this up.
Jerry
Jerry, You're welcome. I wanted to check the quality of the tees and the order process before posting a link here. I just received one of the "budget" t-shirts today and was very pleased with the whole shop process, especially the resulting shirt!
Bev
Bev: awesome job, sister!
Thanks Kent!
Bev, good job. Was that tee shirt that you checked gray like it appears? That is the color I would like but in a vee neck. I don't see any like that??
Jeanette
Hi Jeanette, Nope, the shirt I ordered was white as snow. I thought it looked a little gray in the picture, too. I'll look through the shop again to see if I can find you one and let you know.
Bev
Thanks Bev. I would prefer the gray.
Jeanette
Jeanette, they do have a heather gray V-neck tee! It's the black one, the 3rd one over in the second row and says, Women's V-Neck Dark Straw Bale T-Shirt, "more colors available" just underneath the picture. Click on the picture, once you get to the page, look at the two color choice blocks to the right. The black is already selected, but you can click on the gray box and the shirt on the left should change to the gray.
Let me know if you have any trouble.
Bev
I like that one, Do you know if they are preshrunk? I'll have to think about it. $20 is a lot of money for a tee shirt.
Sorry, don't mean to sound ungrateful but about the only gardeners around here are the mastergardners and they aren't about to change to strawbales. Or haybales for that matter.
Thanks, Jeanette
Jeanette, The one I received was a Hanes, pre-shrunk, medium weight, 100% cotton t-shirt for $9. I love it!
Take care,
Bev
