OK, folks, here's what I think is a fantastic design for a t-shirt or sweat shirt.
Sundownr gets the credit for the art design.
I just gave her a wish list of things I'd like to see and this is the end result.
What a blessing she has been. She was very patient with the changes I asked for as we went along.
I'm going to have some shirts made up to see how they turn out, and post a pic of them.
I've tried the do-it-yourself heat transfers and they just don't turn me on.
Just thought I'd unveil this. It's hot off the press.
This is a great way to "spread the gospel" of bale gardening! :-)

Straw Bale Gardening t-shirt design for preview
That's pretty cool Kent, just trying to imagine what color tee shirt you would put it on. Bout the only color not in the logo is blue, black or white.
Jeanette
oooo, i like that . can i get a black one in xxlarge? what ever it takes . sally
Jeannette: yeah, I was thinking any shade of white and light gray
digger: black would be an interesting color to check out, too
Stay tuned.
kent, i can't keep white clean , and that would be a diservice to the emblem.so if there is a choice, something dark for me.
digger: no prob on getting it on a dark-colored shirt once I get the design ready for the heat press.
i am so glad you are going to be able to do this, i don't wear hats .love it!
I like it Kent.
Sally (Digger), are you going to wear it on your head? What do you mean you don't wear hats?
Jeanette
jnette , i only wear hats in church , or out on the water when i'm salt water fishing.when i'm fishing, i also wear polarized sunglasses so that i can see through the water.come on and join us this winter, i have an extra pair for you sally
Oh Sally, I love fishing, but am afraid of water 'cause I can't swim. There fore I stick to lakes and streams. I won't even go on cruises. Not that I would think I could swim that far to land anyway. LOL, thanks for the offer.
I was wondering if you were inviting me to fish or to go to church until you offered the extra pair. I am assuming sunglasses or else you would be thinking I had 2 heads. LOL Hey that could be too.
Jeanette
we don't go offshore in ocean.we do the wade fishing in the bays most of the water is only knee to hip deep.that depth is what we're looking for.but hey,i'm serious .if you picked your route, you could walk to the ocean. then i would need a hat ,that sun is bright, even in winter. sally
Sally, that sounds like fun. When I was working, we had a lot of training sessions on Jekyl Island in Georgia. Do you know where that is? Are you close to there? I think it was Brunswick that we flew in to. The training center was FLETC.
Anyway, we stayed in townhouses on the beach. There was a shrimp boat that, every morning, went back and forth along that stretch of shore beeping. One day we went down to the docks where they came in and watched him sort his catch.
He sure didn't get many, just a couple of 5 gallon buckets of shrimp and crab. Very interesting though, even if I did cuss him out when I was trying to sleep.
Jeanette
I LOVE the design, but would rather see it just called Bale Gardening- next year, I think I'm going solely with hay bales. It's look great on beige or light blue!
That's just MY 2 cents worth.
Suz
Considering the yields you guys have been getting, maybe there should be more than 2 tomatoes! LOL! KK.
KK: 10-4 on that;
we looked at more plants in the art work but it started getting crowded for the effect and message we wanted to get out.
Actually, I thought of a cluster of tomatoes with a few green leaves, but it looked like a bunch of giant red grapes... figured it would be hard to grasp the concept with a mutated plant, lol.
sund , i can't visualize any better design than the one you have , it tells the whole story , simply!!
Sundownr- Your design is perfect! It's simple, eye-catching, and tells the tale! Well done!!!
Suzan
Thank you for the praise, but remember it was Kent's vision! I just tried to create what he described to me! I hope everyone enjoys it and spreads the word with a T-shirt.
I'm even more inspired now to try my hand at this method of gardening after reading through the Straw Bale forums, and article by Darius which lead me here. I'm going to pull a few bales out of the shed today before it rains to save my county water bill, lol.
Sundownr
UPDATE: I met my cousin who does heat transfers on the side and I don't have good news.
It would cost A LOT to have some transfers made.
It's the 4 colors in the logo that run the price up.
If I only had 10 transfers made, then the price per transfer would be about $28!
That's not even counting the cost of the shirt and the cost of the labor to get them on the shirt plus the cost to get it shipped to you.
Of course, the price goes down the more transfers you order, but I have no way of knowing who may want one down the road.
Now, if anyone has a cheaper source, let me know.
I'll check with a source that does silk screens, but that method will probably be cost prohibitive, too.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Get the quote for silkscreening the T-shirts and calculate which reproduction method would be cheaper, and at what quantities. Then post it on the DG Co-op Forum to see how many folks would be interested. If you could get commitments for 30 to 50 (or more) shirts maybe the price wouldn't be too high.
And then there's CafePress! Let me check their current requirements and get back with you!
Sorry Kent, I know nothing about that stuff. Jeanette
Sundownr: 10-4 - will look into this
Sundownr:
Is it not possible to post an image that we could download and copy onto an iron-on transfer ourselves? Would make the process much simpler with no money to change hands . . . just a suggestion.
Namaste- Suzan
Suzan, I think Kent is checking on doing just that... he will have to let us know the status.
Bev
Suzan, If you click the linked thumbnail picture in the very first post, it will take you to a larger version of the logo where you can right click as you hover over the picture. Then select "save picture as...," from the drop down menu, to download it to your computer. I'm not sure if the logo size is altered from the original or not... haven't checked that.
Bev
All: If the method Bev describes above doesn't work for you just send me a note via DMail with your email address and I'll email you a jpeg of the logo.
You all are really on the bale . . . er . . . ball! (grin!)
Suz
suz, i got my first squash yesterday. woo hoo, the bales look good, and next year, i'm gonna try some hay also.( as per you on another thread).thanks for experimenting sally
digger: 10-4 on trying out some hay/grass bales next year.
I had a fried squash sanwich for supper! Yum Yum!
I've got my daughter hooked on them.
We had fried squash and onions for supper! Oh, I love squash...
I'm going to have to try the fried squash sandwich, sounds good!!
kent, what all do you put on that sandwich. have you ever sliced kinda thin ,longways, and dropped in hot peanut ( we use peanut for all frying) oil, like french fries? salt and catsup. a little different but good .i did that one nite when i was tired and lazy,dh really liked them. told him i was creating . sally
Sally: I just happen to have some peanut oil. Didn't think about that. Will give it a try. Thanks.
Oh, I only had fried squash and bread. Nothing extra on it. Any suggestions?
I've got a friend that I used to work for and Beverly does all kinds of work. Here is her web site http://tthreads.com/ check it out and give her a call. She is very reasonable on her pricing and does excellent work.
Let her know that I sent ya.
Janet Matherly
picked another squash last nite. sliced longways1/4',dipped in buttermilk, coated with corn meal, pan fried. made sub with tomatoes, lettuce, black olives, onions, dukes mayo, bread and butter pickles, fried squash, parmesan cheese! salad on a toasted bun. delious, called it creating. kent you started all this, but did you coat your squash to fry, or saute it in butter?or what?.i have little bugs that seem to prefer one of my better boys.like little chiggers red, right in the top. used seven dust twice, cloudburst that nite, just put on third sprinkle, should i be doing something else? what are they
Well, I love it and I think pink would be a perfect color *S*
Janet: thanks for the tip. Will get in touch with your friend as soon as I can.
digger: I wet my squash slices in water and then dip in some House of Autry chicken breader mix. Glad to see another "Dukes Mayo" consumer!
I was raised on Dukes and also love Lowes Foods Southern style mayo.
dovey: hopefully one of these days we'll have some shirts.
If ANYONE wants to run with the shirts, please feel free to do so.
Sally: I think that sandwich would qualify as a bale garden-Dagwood! Sounds intense!
xox your yankee pal Suz
suz, got hooked on subways a few weeks ago while helping friends move from s georgia to n georgia. remembered they could be made in low calorie form ,to help drop weight, so i've decided that veggies are just as tasty as meat and just added the suggestion of kents about fried squash.that and the mayo was the fat on that sand, and was real tasty treat.can't do that all the time, but can say,i've dropped a few pounds. i tried quitting smokeing last winter and added 20lbs to already matronly figure.(still smoke).that's why i will want that t-shirt in xxlarge, to hide my bod. lol. i'm still looking at pictures every week and prayers every day . yo buddy, sally
