'Buyer Beware' is a great adage to remember re this Hosta Virus ... I got mine from a Greenhouse .. in bags in March .. transplanted them from indoor last week and they look good .. gangly .. but OK. However, this same GreenHouse, which is extremely reputable in Thunder Bay, has an APHID problem. A colleague brought home an Annual last year (not sure what it was .. ) She brought it in as a cut flower for a vase arrangement, not noticing the Aphids on the underside of the petals .. before she knew it the lil devils had decided to pay a visit to a few of her beautiful African Violets :-( So .. I would imagine 'careful scrutiny' of the plant as a whole is a good rule of thumb .. HOWEVER :-) When I see a PURDY flower smilin at me .. I just wanna bring it home and enjoy it.
Suns shining here .. and the house is a buzz with the company getting ready to leave this afternoon, and the phone ringing to wish the Dads in the house a HAPPY FATHER'S DAY .. which I will also wish any Dads on this forum ..
Maybe I'll get that Azalea planted today !!! One can only HOPE so :-)
Enjoy your day

What's Happening in YOUR neighborhood today pt 4
Talk about being addicted to Canadian Tire, I look forward to Friday mornings when I get to work to get my -e flyer..then usually I'm there before the store opens Sat. mornings...lol..
Ann, want to look at your photo's and will as the day progresses..right now it's the most gorgeous day..already dropped my little ones off to go with Mom and Dad for breakfast at an island restaurant..wanted me to go but much too tired from yesterday...
I'll be back to respond to all of you..'m' hope you are feeling better today..
Oh my doG the sun is shining again this morning!
I finally got the tree Peony planted yesterday ( had to dig up a few bulbs in the process but what the heck it was the perfect site!
This is sort of a weekend 'off ' for me =except for a dress fitting yesterday not committed to anything!
I went down to the House yesterday to try on some of the summer dresses for the interpretors. These are dresses made according to the 'one hour dress' method of the 1920's. Found one that fitt although the collar which is sort of a sailor type is not really appropriate for my age but at least it fits. She also had a gorgeous wine coloured dress (same color as my living room walls!) probably from the 70's which looked great ( but not for summer it is more an evening type dress) but was a bit tight below the hips. They will open up the side seams and put a black gusset in both sides . It cost 3$!) I get to wear it at the Alberta Ballet Home Tour next weekend .I'm not touring just being normal interpretor at Lougheed House which is part of the 7 house fundraising tour this year.
Now I have to look for a pair of shoes to wear with summer dress that look vaguely 1920 ish!
Off to the off leash park with the dogs and then a lazy day before I have to spread 2 cubic yards of mulch on the flower beds!

Hi folks,
It's starting to crash-bang all around me; so I may not be long on the computer. Lunch meeting of the social Action Committee after church today and we head to DD's house for dinner. Orchestra BBQ last evening. What a social life! My garden is suffering as a result, but if it's pouring rain, I can't work out there either.
There are a few more pics on today's Coffee thread. But I'm still editing and when I finish, I'll put up a whole album on SmugMug and send you all the link.
Ann
Ann, where is the coffee thread...
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/863302/#new on Parking Lot Forum. There is a new thread every day.
Ohhh it's thundering here at the moment, rain starting to fall, was going to water the gardens but I'm having help from Mother Nature..lol..
It's been a beautiful day for all 'Fathers' so it won't hamper most family celebrations...
Hope you all enjoyed your day!
Buckets of rain falling at the moment .. rec;d a call and the company has made it home to King City .. and .. expecting RAIN LoL
A low key day .. the Azalea is still waiting on a home ..
Going horizontal early .. the knee is NOT happy with my over activity today ..
~M~
WHOA .. Monday already .. where does the time go ?? As I get older (or busier) the weekends seem to fly by ..
I am sort of in a quandry today. Do I bolt about as usual .. or .. do I medicate and go back to bed and keep OFF my feet .. I do think the latter will win out as I know it'll be best all round .. however .. the sun is shining and I have THINGS to do and plants to plant !! Thinking about it reasonably, I DO know that a day of rest for my knee is going to GAIN me time in the end as it will most assuredly feel much better .. just can't negotiate the 'need' for the rest with my brain :-(
Hope everyone has a fine day .. it's SUNNY here in Thunder Bay right now .. have 2 bunnies hopping about .. most likely headed for the HOSTAS !!! Off I go .. (see what I mean .. I'll never get back to bed) !!!
~M~
Think you had better give it another couple of days "M"..must be something you can do while sitting on the couch..lol..
Did the same yesterday aft. - thought I needed to rest, but within a 1/2 hr. I had 20 bottles of paint sitting on a side table painting a project, but that's relaxing right?
Was 66 in Barrie this morning and only 52 in Toronto..not sure of what they are calling for today..should check it out..
Enjoy the day you are given..
Raining here this morning, but that's ok, have so much to do inside. Got my cat Shadow at the Vet this morning, for blood test. Poor thing doesn't travel well. He always mess up the cage. Either poop or pee. This morning was poop. Now have to go clean up another cage, my 2 Zebra finches. And do my cage also, and the laundry. Never ends.
Almost done planting everything. Now waiting for Sunny days so things will start growing. Have a Brugmansia just about to bloom. It has 2 fat buds on it, but not much leaves. My first time with brugs, and just can't wait for the bloom.
Good morning,
I thought maybe you'd like to check out both a video and some stills of the most interesting piece of road we encountered in Utah - the Moki Dugway.

If motion isn't your thing, check out the pics at this site:
http://www.midwestroads.com/otherstates/mokidugway/
I'll get my own pics up in due time.
We stopped by Canadian Tire to fill up the BBQ propane tank last night and the general manager of the store was filling up his car at the gas bar. I've gotten to know him quite well over the years I was running the local Food Cupboard - he's a real good guy and I nailed him about the Garden Centre this year.
The last several years the Garden Centre had been run by a older, retired chap who really looked after the plants. They were watered and he had staff pulling off dead leaves and generally keeping the plants looking good. This year I've found the plants dried up and wilting and leggy. I also didn't find the selection as good, but have to admit I wasn't here at the peak gardening time.
Better get off this machine and into the garden before it decides to rain. It's looking more cloudy.
Ann
Woooooooooooof, what a ride Ann, that was living on the edge. I would have had my foot on the brake on the passenger side all the way down. LOL Must of been some nice trip.
wow..me who is afraid of heights..was in Vermont/New Hamshire one year and DH did all the driving, a sat on the floor so I couldn't see where I was..not that was an exciting trip..lol
YOIKES .. and with an Indiana Jones theme (I think) I'd have been beside ya on the floor Betty!!
Did I go to bed .. no .. did I plant .. YES .. is the Azalea planted.. NO :-(
Took some pics .. sharin 3 ..
One is what I planted this morning .. my Weeping Birch garden .. 2 flats of Geraniums and some Dusties.
The perennial garden got some Daylillies and 2 more Rudbekia.
And the Azalea is , I am sure , awaiting a home .. I just can't decide !!!
My knee .. is pitchin a fit !! Will try to stop movin .. but it's so darned tough !!! My brain won't shut off .. and my 'TO DO' list seems to be on SPEED DIAL !!!
~M~
Lot's of land "M" - loved the manicured lawn..so clean and pretty..coud go back and read but I'll just ask, what was your weather like over the weekend, my cousin Doug and friends left here Fri. 5am..if they don't come back I'll check for remnants left from deerflies..
You WERE suppose to by resting..
Great pics. You could make some WONDERFUL Hosta gardens down by those evergreens. LOL
OMG!!!!! Ever sweet puppies .. and it only gets better :-) Congrats 'Auntie Betty' :-)
The weather here over the weekend was damp and wet .. not too sure if it was good fishing weather .. but .. Pickeral do bite on cloudy days L0L so do deerflies, blackflies and mosquitoes !!!!
I have tried Hosta under the evergreens .. didn't do a thing .. had something to do with the soil being too acid I guess.
BUT .. my Purple Iris THRIVES under there .. shoot forgot to take a pic of them ..
I am going to TRY and cool it this afternoon .. literally as well a figuratively !!! It is C O L D here .. hasn't hit 50 F yet !!
I almost asked DH to put a fire on in the woodstove .. however .. my track record for doing that and the outside temps rising is about 100% LoL
~M~
"M" not the warmest here either, infact have my micro-furnace in the office on..temp does say 72 but that's cool for me..lol
Love those puppies and makes me sad as "My Dukey" is gone now..I still cry everyday about that and cant get another one right now, but will eventually......at a rescue for black labs again.
I have a problem with my scarlett runner beans. Its been such wacky weather everywhere and just wondering if other people are having this problem. All of the leaves are turning yellow and also noticed alot of brown stuff on the leaves as well. Ive picked off everything, as I thought that would encourage more growth, but Ive never grown this before and just wondering if this is normal? They were growing like gang busters, but now not so much..and ideas out there??
Ooops, forgot to say..M...love your yard and gardens and everything about that country living...miss that from Ontario and hopefully be able to get it back, once I get that job in the Feds again.
Hope everyone has a great day!
UGgggggggggggggg ... I am S I C K !!!! Seems to be (through a process of elimination) ... some leaf lettuce that I had on a burger on Sunday evening. I was the only one who had it. The riding of the 'Porcelain Pony commenced yesterday afternoon and is slowing ebbing in frequency .. I am, however, not quite up to snuff. So .. like it or not .. I am going to HAVE to keep a 'low profile' today.
Have never quite had stomach cramps in this magnitude .. poor Lilly doesn't know what to do !!
Good thing I got the Geraniums planted yesterday .. I do so hope the Azalea doesn't pack up and leave !!
Jeez Sydney don't know what to say bout yer Scarlet Runner !! I think you're right though re the weather ..
I best go lay me down ....
Ciao
~M~
Hope you are feeling better "M"...
What a storm they had here yesterday..drivers on the 400 had to pull off the road, rain/wind/hail storm, some as big as golf balls, infact after 9hrs after the storm, there still was 1" of remnant ice on the ground..talk about strange weather..
Windows were open and I woke to almost (I say almost ) could see my breath..it was in the 40's coming to work..sun was shinning 10 minutes ago and now it's clouding over...better get it all done and over with so the weekend will be 'sunshine'
Sydney, know when you feel it is the right time, you'll find another lab to love...are you trying to re-locate back here in Ontario??
The crows have won, yet again !!! I think that perhaps their youngsters are bee boppin about and the Moms and Dads do not like the fact that Smokey is out .. WHATEVER .. trying to sleep through that noise is near to impossible !! BUT I do feel better (ish)
I saw the news coverage of the storm down east on Global last evening Betty .. quite the voracious display of Ma Nature .. she is fer sure keeping us all guessing from one day to the next !!
Our company left a cold and dreary TBay .. only to get back to King City and have to face a tornado watch !!!
The furnace is still coming on here at night .. have it set at 62 .. ..
Am thinking about making a rhubarb pie .. DH has 4 cups all cut up for me .. I sorta think that's an indirect request for one :-)
Hope everyone is enjoying their day
~M~
Just made a Rhubarb Crisp and ate some for lunch. I like it better than the pie. Yum!
Also posted more rock pics on coffee - I'm doing a little bit every day - and I took pics of all my Hostas. sorting them out is good for a couple of hours which would be better spent elsewhere.
Ann
Guess I better go check the rhubarb - have been thinking about too many other things,
Have got the compost spread in most of the back yard. The front will be harder just because the pile is on my parking pad at the back of the house so I have to trundle the wheelbarrow from back to front many times!
Another nice sunny day - dont think it has rained since Thursday except for one quicky Friday afternoon.
Rhubarb....... love the stuff, and hoping next year the stuff I planted last year will really Take. The only thing I have in the 'patch' is about 6 stalks, and only one of them is junior sized lol I planted 3 patches last year - one didn't come up at all, the other one rotted, and the third one is really puny.
My neighbour has a lovely patch - just beautiful.
My DH loves strawberry/rhubarb pie, and I'd love to make him one.......
It's a beautiful day in Calgary - my car "says" it's 28c now - yikers!! Doesn't feel that warm tho....?!?!
Susan you can take some home with you on Saturday - dont forget to ask. I always have way more than I need and often end up throwing it out!
May I humbly suggest a new thread. I now have to click 3 times on "Skip to New" for it to jump to the bottom of the thread.
Thanks
Thank you, Carol - much appreciated.
Say, have you ever tried Rhubarb ice cream? It's delicious, and you don't need an ice cream maker - just your regular freezer, and no dry ice.
Weird that you guys would be talking about rhubarb today. DH is helping his cousin on an organic farm. A couple of weeks ago they harvested 1700 pounds of organic rhubarb. The cousin has a great recipe for a rhubarb chutney, or rhubarb relish, so thought I might post it for you. It's really easy. I usually double the recipe.
2.2 pounds of chopped rhubarb
9 oz. raisins
9 oz. chopped onion
½ oz mustard seed
1½ teaspoons cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon of powdered ginger
1½ teaspoons salt
1 1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 ½ cups vinegar
3 1/3 cups white sugar
Combine all. Bring to a boil, then simmer until reduced by half(takes about 2 hours).
Seal in jars.
Moved us over into another comfy colorful room..do enjoy your visits and getting to know each and everyone of you!
