:D How I would love you to Carol (in reasonable amounts.......don't want the crop to rot either ;S)

What's Happening in YOUR neighborhood today pt 4
Good grief .. nice pics, but disturbing pics .. this 'global warming/weather change/ phenomenon is absolutely frightening!! I think that in Canada as a whole .. Sask and probably the east coast provinces are the ones exhibiting the biggest changes. The east coast gets totally THUMPED in the winter months now. Used to be North Western ON. We don't get near as much snow in winter anymore .. and over the past 3 years .. WIND has become a real BIG factor ..just like Sask it blows and blows .. however .. we have the hills and valleys that protect the farmers fields somewhat.
Thunder Bay is again wet this morning .. it started last night at about 10 and is forecasted to continue for the next THREE days !! Not in amounts like last Friday though.
My bud (Lorna) the cemetery grounds keeper, has over 100 + flats of flowers to get in this week (on her own) .. apparently sod was deliverd last Thursday at quitting time ... before the storm hit during the night/day Friday .. as she was off Friday she is kinda NOT looking forward to seeing what THAT looks like as apparently the sod will now be VERY heavy .. she's hoping it got tarped.
Tomorrow is 'KITCHEN DAY' !! WOO HOO .. so .. I'm gonna have an even BIGGER mess around the house .. I cleaned out my cupboards under the counter .. but left some stuff in there .. so .. after I feed the crowd tonight I'll be 'pedal to the metal' to get ALL the stuff out .. have to venture into town to get a few more boxes .. am beating myself up for having not had a new dishwasher installed right from the git go .. too late now ..
Hope everyone has a wonderful week ..
~M~
Oh my doG the sun is shining and there is not a cloud in sight! I actually sat out on the back steps with my coffee while the dogs did what dogs do first thing in the morning.
Maybe, just maybe I can finish planting the perennials and get all those seedlings in the WS jugs in the ground!
OMG, those are some photo's....weather is crazy..got home from boating at about 6pm and within 10 minutes you could see the dark clouds looming and drops of rain, had just listened to the weather forcast and they had warnings out..so out I went, secured everything for the storm, even took all the hanging plants which never seem to get enough rain because of the roof overhang, took them and set the on the ground, rain started to fall, Sailor was barking and fretting as it was rumbling outside, got her something to drink, look out and the storm had passed..end of rain..checked out the plants and they really didn't even get wet..
Here in the city this morning though a few of the back roads had mega trees down, so they got hit but not with the hail they had predicted...
"M" this weekend is your party, lets hope weather co-operates..Doub (cousin) and a few friends are leaving Fri. morning for Thunder Bay for 4 days of fishing..going in a motorhome..someone told them they'd better bring suits geared to blackflies..lol
Couldn't believe how much sun and tan I got just being outside on the boat yesterday..will have to do it more often..
I'm hiding inside for a bit .. Betty .. your buds had best ensure they have bug spray .. and lots of it!! I went into town and came home .. lugging the groceries from the car to the house I about 'knocked myself out' with a watermelon trying to SHOE the mosquitoes/blackflies away .. and I need to get outside and DO some stuff as it's sunny .. guess I'll just dose myself with fly dope and do the fabric softener in the pocket thing.
OOOOoooooooooo .. you can get a tan quickly on a boat .. it's thr reflection from the water .. plus just the sun in general .. I USED to be a BIG sun worshiper .. travelled to tropical locals many times and returned home almost a Mahogany colour .. but .. I find that the sun has become way too strong now to do the sunbathing thing .. I'm not 'deliberate' about tanning anymore .. whatever I get .. I get .. .. I do like a little colour though as I am so fair !!
Many roads and schools are still closed in TBay and outlying district as roads that were washed out are being repaired ..
Off I go :-)
~M~
LOL You should see me right now. I have what I euphemistically term a gardener's tan. When I'm working in my gardens I wear big oversized tshirts and gauntlet style gloves, so my tan line is from about an inch above my elbow to midway between my elbow and wrist - verrry attractive :-)
Huge, sudden, and severe thunderstorms here over the last 3 days or so and we're under another watch right now. Tornadoes sighted to the south and southwest of us yesterday, but the closest was 50 km away. So far no hail or high winds, but the possibility is there. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed.
Strange weather patterns these days indeed. We too are experiencing much milder winters with more and higher winds and more severe spring/summer/fall storms.
"M" someone must have already told them about the bugs..they are all getting netted up...
Ginny, looking out my office window, just got black as black can be, winds are picking up..looks like we might get the storm shortly as well..sure had hoped it would wait till we left for home...
Going to check the weather station...lol
Glad were not the only ones experiencing strange weather..its raining and raining here, non stop these days. It feels like a fall day, not summer. Lilypon, wish I could send you our rain here. At the beginning of the season I bought some large rain containers to conserve water, but I guess we dont need it these days...and here I thought I was being smart and trying to help the environment.
My plants are very slow this year as well and alot of the seeds I had planted long ago never did come up. Oh well Im sure it will change soon. I wish we could get some of that heat from Ontario and miss those thunder storms. I may be living there again soon as I may be working with Fed Corrections and will transfer eventually. I have an interview with them on June 27, so pray and keep your fingers crossed for me as I really want to get back into corrections again...not as a nurse this time but Correctional Officer. Hope you all had a great day
Whew !! another dinner down .. dishes done .. time to relax and scratch the 'skitter bites' :-)
Sydney .. Forensic nursing is NOT an easy calling .. I hope you get the posting you want .. altho .. a Corrections Officer is as stressful .. BUT .. we all make our own choices, and like what we like .
Ginny .. the 'Gardener's tan' is quite the happening thing .. with me it's my feet as I wear clogs .. so I have a half a brown foot with 'lilly white toes' !!!
The weather continues to mystify me .. tomorrow I would imagine I will hole up in the computer room while my kitchen gets done .. I cleaned out UNDER the sink today .. my gosh .. quite the pile of 'flotsam and jetsom '!! Figure there's a box of SOS pads in there from 10 years ago that i knew nothing about !! Lets say it was GRUNGY and call it good !!
Off to walk Lilly .. then goin horizontal .. can hardly WAIT !!!
~M~
MarilynnS..I was a correctional officer for 12yrs prior to getting into nursing in Ontario..Toronto Jail (aka..The Don Jail) and also lived in Guelph and worked at the Guelph correctional centre as well. I moved here because my Dad was very ill with cancer and took care of him until his passing in Jan this year. When I moved here there was a hiring freeze in both provincial and federal corrections and warranted me going back to school once again. Ive only been nursing for 2.5yrs and although I love it, I would rather be in jail..lol...
Wow as Im writing this we are having thunder and lightning as well..I need to sign off as Im getting hit right now...
Further East from you guys. We had a very nice day today. Tomorrow, we're getting rain, and the thunder storms in the afternoon. The week doesn't seem all that nice. Lots of clouds and rain a few breaks of sun. Am not done planting everything yet. Put in a good day today though.
Expecting company at the end of the month, and want to nip up the deck a bit, with fresh stain.
Betty do you know the name of your clematis, I think I have the same one. it's the first of the clematis to bloom in spring. I bought a new one from vessey's, and got it today. Bare root, no green, not too impress. The name is Cassie. Nice color, Rosie Burgundy color.
have a few new blooms in the garden, A red peony , lady slipper, Pink columbine
Johanna, made one of those succulent ball yesterday, but didn't put the 2 basket together yet. Did you wait to put it together, until the succulent have taken roots, or did you do it all at once. I put in some yellow sedum, and another kind which I don't know the name off and put in some hens and chick as well. I use 2 of those wire hanging basket. Is that what you guys did?
Yes, that's what we did. I had started mine a few weeks ago to make sure the baskets & chain worked. So although I should have let them root in in the halves, I didn't but everyone else did. I added quite a few & wrapped chicken wire around it. It has be cool & wet, so not sure how long it will take for them to root in. You should post a pic of yours. Fancyvan posted her's on another thread. I will take another picture when the chicken wire is off.
It was a fun project
burn_2007 & joannabanana - my succulent ball is sitting, in 2 parts, on my outdoor farm table - I want to make sure it gets good & rooted before I move it again.
burn_2007 - I'd like to see a pic of yours, too :-)

Am hoping the link above works for ya .. it's just an article on what's been happening here post DELUGE ..
Am everso curious about these Succulent Balls .. how do you make'em? Can I have the recipe :-)
Smokey decided to do some head tromping this morning at 4am ( MY HEAD ) !! Have been up ever since cuz he also wakened Lilly who then needed to go out .. on and on ................
Have to wait til a few more people are up before I start putzing about the kitchen putting stuff away so the area is bare for the tile guy .. am so hoping this goes off without a HITCH !!!
Hahahahah Sydney .. sometimes I;d rather be in jail as well LoL ... after over 30yrs of nursing I have finally found my 'niche' (Hospice).
So sorry to hear of your Dad's passing in January.
Guess I'll go poke around 'Dave's Garden' as it's too dang dark to poke around mine :-)
Toodles
~M~
LOVE all the pics BTW ...
Morning, just starting to rain, softy..my heart goes out to all who are having the storms and torrential rains..how devastating it must be!
Home today, well at least till noon, funeral to go to this morning and then colonoscopy this aft. yuk those bottles they give you to drink are enough to make one want to 'start drinking'...not tasty at all..so guess I'll be having an induced sleep this aft.
Do enjoy your day..
We got home last night. No travel interruptions due to weather or anything else. Apparently the Phoenix airport has the best record in the US of getting planes out on time - but the weather is always the same - hot and dry. LOL It was nearly 10 pm when we got in; so a garden walk is in order as soon as I get off this computer.
Ann
Welcome home Ann! I'm glad your return journey was so uneventful, and I'm sure you'll find lots of things happening in your gardens with the heat and rain we've had here - the plants are loving it!
--Ginny
Welcome back Ann .. Sky Harbor Airport is quite the place .. but .. incredibly , I found it easy to navigate, albeit the sorta tunnel I had to go through for a connecting flight was VERY warm !!! Specially when you're kinda rushing and wearing HEELS !!!
Wish ya well Betty and I know that 'KaK' you have to drink leaves a lot to be desired .. trust me .. it'll be over pronto !!
It's POURING here .. waiting for the tile guy ... anytime now !!
ENjoy
~M~
Welcome home Ann, sure hope all is well on your garden walk..

Fancy, thanks for showing me your pic. I can see how it would be hard, you have yours well packed, but real nice, you won't have to wait long for it to fill out. That's what worries me, putting it together without it dumping all out. I didn't pack mine as much and didn't put any under the basket yet, I'll wait till they get rooted a bit and when everything is all put together, I'll put some underneath, and maybe more on the side of it.
Welcome home Ann, post picture of your garden in bloom.
Betty hate that stuff, you have to drink before test. Sure hope they don't find anything serious. Love you picture perfect frame and hanging basket. here's one of the basket.
Thanks for all the "welcome home" messages. Things grew in the garden, but the weeds grew best of all. LOL Started working on them this morning. Now have to get showered and out to do some errands. Will post some pics when it's presentable.
Ann
BUMMED OUT here ... due to WEATHER I have decided to cancel the party on Saturday :-(
The property is MUSH and mud in lots of places (most) and there is a 70% chance of rain as well. I have planned to re schedule .. am going to PERSONALLY write Ma Nature a letter inviting HER to come and she can provide 'THE WEATHER' LoL
Thanks for the link for the Succulent Ball Fancy .. and great pics burn .. I may give it a go .. right now I have half my garage choc a bloc with my flats of flowers (annuals) picked up my order today and will surely be on the lookout for MORE planters tomorrow ..
Out for dinner tonight .. fish & chips ... YUMmmmmmmmmmmmm :-)
~M~
Just getting ready to bed..lazy evening..kids just dropped in to check up on me, so now I can retire..back to the city working tomorrow..
Did find polyps which in itself is nothing..told me I needed to go back to the specialist in 2 or 3 weeks when biopsy comes back..but I don't think they found the reason for my growing from size 12/14 to 22/24 within my 5 minutes of eating with severe pressure..sooo am sure they'll think of something to test me for again..lol..don't let 'colonoscopy' scare you, don't feel a thing, honest..I'd go back tomorrow without giving it a thought..am much like a pin cushion though, couldn't find veins..am sure when I drink it will be like having the spray on, pop coming out of these little holes..kidding of course...
Rained off and on here all day..kids say it's freezing in here - 65 degrees..lol...but think I'll keep the air on just in case...
Work day in the city tomorrow, will be sure to say hi..
Mornin ..
Glad all went well with the colonoscopy Betty .. the worst part about anything like that is the 'Anticipation' .. the procedure in and of itself is quite quick (or seems to be)
SO far so good in the 'drippy skies' dept .. looks to be clear and slightly cloudy so far. The furnace kept coming on last night (I coulda lived without that) .. looking out my window I don't see anything resembling frost .. so .. today I am likely going to take that GIANT leap of faith and plant some planters .. as they will all be on the patio, it'll be easy to hike 'em up next to the house if need be.
The guy comes to grout the ceramic today .. kind of a shock to walk into the kitchen this morning .. not only because of the JUMBLE of 'stuff' everywhere .. but because it looks so different now .. thankfully .. we all LIKE IT :-)
Enjoy your day !!
~M~
"M" cancel the party..but you were so looking forward to it? was there no other location you could have had it at just incase of rain..you know they call for bad weather and then we get sunshine..were you not having folks from the southern part of Ontario coming?
Kitchen sounds lovely, you'll have to post a photo for us...
Dull here in the city as well today although they were calling for sunshine most of the day..is hot though so we'll see what the weather brings...
Called the specialist's office this morning for my appt. to tell me about the polyps once they receive notification about the biopsy, 1st appt would be the 10th of July, nope, going to Chicago to spend 4 days with DG friends so will have to wait until the 16th...lol if it's good news, so be it, if it's bad news, another week won't make a difference..lol
Still raining here. We have dumped about 8 inches out of the rain gauge since the 3rd week in May. Seems to have been raining since.
That's a lot of rain..it's either sweltering hot or raining, no in between...
Well it stopped raining part of the morning - then just as I was about to leave the car and go to Safeway a big dump with hail and thunder and lightening happened! Fortunately did not last long and no damage to my plants.
Now it has stopped again but I cant get excited about going out in the cold and wind!
Well .. it has been 'A DAY ' !!
Yeah (Marilynne hangs her head) I cancelled the party on Saturday .. NOW I am paranoid I haven't contacted EVERYONE to get the message out !!
Our property is SO wet !! I really don't want people traipsing in and out with muddy shoes .. as well .. the 'flash flood' component of the past few days is still lingering .. have visions of me sitting on the roof of my house with several elderly realtives hangin on for dear life !!!
I was fortunate enough to have been able to cancel cakes and cheese trays etc. and everyone I have spoken with understands completely.
The folks from King City are 'okee dokee' with the cancellation as they wouldn't have know many of the attendees anyway.
Re my kitchen .. if anyone has been through this scenario .. and is a 'barefooter' like me .. you're going to understand when I say I have "GROUT FEET" .. the guys swept up after themselves .. but .. I walked across the floor and was LESS than impressed .. sooooooooooooo .. if not tonight .. tomorrow I am gonna have to 'get at it' .. before I take an 'AFTER PIC' :-)
While the guys were here I was able to plant 7 containers .. SHEW .. is it COOL here or what !!! I am so hoping that we do NOT get frost !!! It's coudy and windy .. so I think not .. but will watch carefully .. Wave Petunias and Tuberous Begonias do NOT come cheap !!!!
As always .. off to work MIRACLES with leftovers :-)
~M~
We had hail up here too, Fancy. Didn't do too much damage, ripped one small hosta, but it will recover.
Rain, rain, go away. Come again some other day. Like next year.... Ü

My son sent me the above link, thought I'd share it . It's pics of the rural (and city) area of Thunder Bay after the storm last Friday. GUESS WHAT!!?? It's raining AGAIN and has been since about 1am. Predicted to rain all day. As bad as I felt with regards to cancelling the party .. I am breathing a sigh of relief due to road closures that could affect folks trying to get out here.
Looks like it's going to be a SUPER day to do housework !! NOTICE ... that does NOT mean I'm doin a 'Happy Dance' !!
Enjoy
~M~
Yikes "M" think I should send that link to Doug and his friends who are heading your way..not good is it..let's hope this weather comes to an end...
Put your feet up, get yourself a gardening book and enjoy the day..no sense fretting when you can't change it..
