Daily Pics - Vol. #113

Thanks Resin...I've never heard of such a thing! That is what's so great about this forum..so much to learn and so many willing to teach!!

Thanks Pelle..I will have to watch the birds more closely...so much going on that I've never seen before...kind of exciting!

Wonderful start to the thread linth!

Rose, you're just too good, lol, that Jay pic is amazing! What bug has it thrown into the cavern?

It is interesting finding out bird behaviour, and done so by watching them to take pics! I have seen the pair of Goldfinches the last couple of days flying together quite low, and rising every now and then as if in unison, quite a show to watch. I guess they are catching insects for their young.

This Goldfinch flew onto the (non producing) Nectarine tree yesterday for a break, oblivious that I was near by until it spotted me!

Oh Wallaby...that Goldfinch series is just outstanding! I almost felt like I was there...just lovely! Your Goldfinches are so much more colorful than ours!

That last Blue Jay was eating a cricket I think! Those Jays are just all over and seems to have taken charge of the whole farm. Luckily I have feeders for the smaller birds that they can't access!!

Holy Cow! That is a Golfinch?? SPECTACTULAR!!!

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Yes but you have so many VERY colourful birds Rose!

Lol nanny, they are different I guess!

I noticed 3 days ago the Blue Tits both doing the runs in and out of the new nest box on the oak tree, they had used the old one but this was new this year. I had seen them briefly at the box but wasn't sure if they were using it, they sure are!

This is blurred but I got two pics with a piece of egg shell on the 27th. I took them through a small top window while stood on the high arm of a chaise lounge, my front window is big.

Another from 3 days ago, nice to see them using the foot step as they didn't when I first saw them. This is high under the canopy, very dark there and it was a very dull day but I set the camera to get the best I could.

And they use the foot step going in too! Today they seemed to be flying straight in and straight out the hole, they are so quick.

I was stood not too far away today when I saw one go in the box, I got it coming out with more egg shell 3 days after the first lot. Yep, you guessed, dull again!

This is a bit clearer, I was stood by my side door.

Rose love your BlueJay shot, very timely. What a catch.
Wallaby, those Goldfinch are stunning.

Something out of an Horror movie.

The Baby Karma is working Mrs. Ed...Here is a baby Kildeer! It is a long shot so not real sharp but you can see how cute it is.

Great pics everyone!

Rose those baby Killdeers are adorable!

Orchard Park, NY

The killdeer babes are so sweet! I wonder if all babies are born with full-grown eyeballs. It's so cute how the heads seem so disproportionate to their bodies.

Eerie grackle (I think) burn.

The blue tits are really getting a workout wallaby! Hopefully you will get a look at the youngsters. I think your goldfinches should be called harlequin finches - they're so darn good looking!

Hi everybody - Beautiful pics all.

Been so busy with the garden and work I haven't had time to post - so here is the month of May, such as it is. Please name the ones I'm not sure of. Thanks!

Our spring has been long in coming as you will see in these pics.

Spelling. One is "d-o-v-e", the orther is "p-i-g-e-o-n". Otherwise, 'dove' tends to be used for smaller species, and 'pigeon' for larger species, but no hard-and-fast rule.

Certainly a Yellow-rumped Warbler, unlikely to be the same individual!
Quoting:
Is this a Downy?

Not sure. Have you got any more pics of it?

Resin - you are so funny and confirming of my thoughts regarding the pesky pigeon.

Here is another shot of the woody - I don't think it's a Downy - only because I am asking the question. When I see a Downy I know it's a Downy...

OP yes it's a grackle.

Had another Warbler in the yard. A male Yellow Warbler, Claypa and Resin just ID for me.

Thanks!

Not a Downy, it doesn't have the white upper back, being strongly barred there instead. I'm thinking the best fit is an immature (one year old) female Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, but I'm not 100% sure as even at one year old it ought really to have got a red crown. Three-toed was another thought, but there's too much white on the head for that.

it's very speckly, isn't it. (the non-downy)

Rose, OMG, that is the cutest baby bird EVER. It looks just like an adult only in miniature.
