Thanks Resin...I've never heard of such a thing! That is what's so great about this forum..so much to learn and so many willing to teach!!
Thanks Pelle..I will have to watch the birds more closely...so much going on that I've never seen before...kind of exciting!
Daily Pics - Vol. #113
Wonderful start to the thread linth!
Rose, you're just too good, lol, that Jay pic is amazing! What bug has it thrown into the cavern?
It is interesting finding out bird behaviour, and done so by watching them to take pics! I have seen the pair of Goldfinches the last couple of days flying together quite low, and rising every now and then as if in unison, quite a show to watch. I guess they are catching insects for their young.
This Goldfinch flew onto the (non producing) Nectarine tree yesterday for a break, oblivious that I was near by until it spotted me!
Holy Cow! That is a Golfinch?? SPECTACTULAR!!!
Yes but you have so many VERY colourful birds Rose!
Lol nanny, they are different I guess!
I noticed 3 days ago the Blue Tits both doing the runs in and out of the new nest box on the oak tree, they had used the old one but this was new this year. I had seen them briefly at the box but wasn't sure if they were using it, they sure are!
This is blurred but I got two pics with a piece of egg shell on the 27th. I took them through a small top window while stood on the high arm of a chaise lounge, my front window is big.
Great pics everyone!
Rose those baby Killdeers are adorable!
The killdeer babes are so sweet! I wonder if all babies are born with full-grown eyeballs. It's so cute how the heads seem so disproportionate to their bodies.
Eerie grackle (I think) burn.
The blue tits are really getting a workout wallaby! Hopefully you will get a look at the youngsters. I think your goldfinches should be called harlequin finches - they're so darn good looking!
Doves or pigeons - what's the difference?
Spelling. One is "d-o-v-e", the orther is "p-i-g-e-o-n". Otherwise, 'dove' tends to be used for smaller species, and 'pigeon' for larger species, but no hard-and-fast rule.
I think this is the Yellow-rumped Warbler I saw earlier this month
Certainly a Yellow-rumped Warbler, unlikely to be the same individual!
Is this a Downy?
Not sure. Have you got any more pics of it?
Resin
Here is another shot of the woody - I don't think it's a Downy - only because I am asking the question. When I see a Downy I know it's a Downy...
Thanks!
Not a Downy, it doesn't have the white upper back, being strongly barred there instead. I'm thinking the best fit is an immature (one year old) female Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, but I'm not 100% sure as even at one year old it ought really to have got a red crown. Three-toed was another thought, but there's too much white on the head for that.

it's very speckly, isn't it. (the non-downy)
Rose, OMG, that is the cutest baby bird EVER. It looks just like an adult only in miniature.
