Getting plants and home ready for surgery

South, TX

Well, I am working hard each day. I love the house to be nice and clean so I am doing a lot around the house to make sure all will look nice after my surgery. My hubby will also be cooking and cleaning, but he will be busy with lots of things (ME) so I am getting things ready.

We also planted all of the summer flowers etc. since I will not be out there working for quite some time, especially in the HEAT! It all looks great, nice it is done.

I watered and vacuumed the violet shelves today. Tomorrow, I will change the water of the sunroom plants, Epecia's.

Here is a picture of the little Fuller vacuum I use. SO handy for the shelves when they get a little dirt on them. Easier that using my Dyson on the shelves. You can really hurt a plant with that machine I bet! POWER!

Tomorrow, hubby and I see the doctor for pre-op information in her office, then register at the hospital. Surgery is this Wed. I am trying to stay busy and not overdo it at the same time! It is a high risk hysterectomy so it will be the usual 6 weeks before I can really return to doing reg. things.

Thank you. It is a great little thing. I got it from a shopping channel I think. It is powerful, but the opening is small so it is easy for small areas. I really love it. Nice machine.

Sally looks like you are all set...It will be so nice for you after your surgery to come home to recover knowing everything is ship shape..Hope your Surgery Goes Well and your Recovery is a Smooth One : )

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Sally, I have been talking to you through email but I do want to wish you a speedy recovery!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I hope I am not speaking out of turn but I am also wishing another AVer a speedy recovery for her surgery on June 15th I do believe and same basic surgery. Both of you get well in a hurry!

(Zone 1)

Sally: Good thoughts and prayers flying your way for a speedy recovery after your surgery. We will be thinking about you and hope you will feel up to stopping in the garden after a few days of rest when you get home. So glad your hubby is the type who will take good care of you. I've never been in a hospital or had any kind of surgery but my DH has always been so great about doing housework, grocery shopping, cooking, taking care of our cats, etc. when I have had bronchitis or the flu. It's so nice to have a man who will do housework. The only thing I don't let mine do is laundry! In almost 39 years of marriage he still has not learned to sort clothes! So, the laundry room is off limits to him! LOL.

Take care and just know that all of your gardening buddies are thinking about you and wishing you well.

Blessings,

Lin

Your plants look lovely! I'll be adding my prayers also next week for a successful procedure and the best possible recovery... hope to hear that you're up & about & back among your plants soon! Rest up, and don't be too brave to take your pain meds, you'll heal faster if you're not hurting. If possible, could you ask your DH to log on and let us know how you're doing? We'll be thinking of both of you & sending lots of well-wishes your way!

Thank you! Hubby is SO good to me for sure. He went to his office, THEN home to take me to the doctor and hospital for five hours today, then back to work!

He really is wonderful and has taken good care of me through lots of problems. Very patient.

My violets are all filled up and I inspected each one.

Won't be long now, SO NERVOUS!! Thank you for the nice thoughts. Remember me Wed. morning!

Echoing prayers for successful surgery and speedy recovery. I fought and put off a hysterectomy for many years, and then finally had the surgery. The day after I had surgery I felt better than I had for years! I hope you have the same experience.

Jackie

South, TX

Oh, Jackie, that is what I did. Finally, I just can't go to sleep easily from pain or just being uncomfortable so I will get it done.

I have heard from so many people that they felt better! I hope I am the same way. Having the hormones taken away really scares me. The doctor will help get the new ones right for me, but it is still scary! No going back!

I love to hear good news about it! If anyone else has help on healing and good results, I would love to hear it.

ALSO, if anyone has had a good medicine for pain that does not make you ill and dizzy let me know. I do NOT do well on pain meds. I usually cannot take them so I am really scared.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Sally, I took hormones for about 6 months and then quit after I read about how they were obtained. I was 39 when I had the hysterectomy, and am 54 now. I haven't had any problems going without hormones. If I feel a bit off and I think it could be hormones I just eat more soy products (I usually eat/drink some soy products weekly - soy milk, edamame). Even when I was laying in the hospital bed the next day with pain from the hysterectomy I already felt better. I took pain meds for 2 days and then quit. I do drink green tea daily to help with inflamatory pain (arthritus) which I was doing at the time. Also, while you have to move carefully, movement is helpful for reducing the pain (post surgery by a couple of days). Again, I will be praying for your speedy recovery from successful surgery.

God be with you and bless you,

Jackie

You mean from horses? People don't usually use them anymore. There are so many kinds and ways they make them now, safer ones now too. I have SEVERE migraines when the estrogen is low. SEVERE. Not fun with no medicines I can take. I also need the hormones for good sleep. I hope the right amount is found fast.

Thank you for the ideas!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have decided that green tea is the answer to a lot of problems. Several years ago friends kept telling me ( I am 66) to drink green tea every day for the antioxidents. So I do and feel great. I, too, quit taking hormones years ago when the news was rocking the airwaves about them. Sally, there a zillion meds to help you sleep at night. Ask me sometime (LOL)

South, TX

Oh, I have a great doctor that knows about CFS, and my nutritionist in CA that helped me with the CFS until I moved, that is when I had a problem sleeping. Only one pretty good thing worked until I could heal enough to sleep. I never took sleeping pills of course. The sleep problems were when I was much more ill with the Chronic Fatigue. I sleep really well now if the estrogen is OK. I have to sleep alot to keep getting better with the fatigue. Also, I have to nap every day.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Glad you have your meds worked out , Sally.

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Sally I suffer from severe migraines with low estrogen also and I have gone the natural route with some natural progesterone cream that you rub into your wrists or inner thighs or low stomach (where skin is thin) on a regular cycle. The progesterone cream levels your estrogen but there is also estrogen cream if you need even more. It has really helped me with my migraines.... but at least one or two days a month I am still very grateful for imitrex!!

The natural hormone creams are from Women's Pharmacy out of AZ. I would think if you called them they could could tell you of a Dr in your area that prescribes the natural hormone creams or you could talk to your own DR about it.

I will tell you another very positive story about a hysterectomy. My cousin who is four years younger than I am (so 44 right now) had terrible problems and at 40 finally had the surgery and she (just like Jackie above) noticed an immediate relief! Six weeks of taking it easy and she was better than new!! She is still thankful everyday she went ahead and had it done even though so young at the time. She uses the natural hormone creams to keep her hormones under control and is a new woman today!!

You'll be happy you've gone through with it in the end, our thoughts will be with you!

Brenda and Sally,
I am too old to need any hormones anymore, but I certainly could have used the creams you are talking about at one point in my life. That was when the scare came out about Prempro so I went cold turkey after 12 years of using it. You are not the first person I have heard of really raving about the benefits of the creams. That is so encouraging for women today.

South, TX

You shouldn't use Prog. when you no longer have a uterus. That is what my doctors have always said. I have used that off and on, but won't now. I had mine mixed at compounding pharmacies.

Prog. added with Estrogen is good when the urterus is there. Now, I will be using the safest estrogen patch possible. There are good choices now thank goodness.

Thank you for the good story. The surgery really does seem to be great for most people, since there really is no choice for sure. I am hoping for the easiest time I can have with pain and healing pretty well. Hubby will be with me all day for 9 days. Then I can have a family member come. Lots to choose from, said they can help when needed.

Tomorrow, I am only allowed to drink CLEAR liquids. Fun. Then, Wed. morning is the big day. I am really nervous now. Even nauseated. I try to keep my mind on other things.

Dimmer: You can't be that old, are you sure you were 26 years old almost 30 years ago? I can't believe that ... you look to be about 26 years old now! I thought you were maybe 29-32 at the most! Looking good kid!

( Kim) Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

October Trun 55 Thanks Lin I wish I felt like 26 I have so many pain in my body from my work but I just keep pushing and after I stop working in the winter is when I do feel 26 that pain is gone till next season

(Zone 1)

OMG, are you serious? I would have never believed in a million years that you were anywhere near your 50's! Early 30's maybe but mid 50's - no way! You sure look good.

I bet that hard road work really takes a toll on the body! I never thought at the age of 60 that I would still be doing so much physical work in the yard with tree trimming and clearing brush etc. My back feels it at the end of the day.

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

Dimmer / Kim .... I'm with Lin, so surprised to think your 54 after having seen your picture and especially when you talk about the hard physical work you do!! I would have said mid 30's max! You look fabulous so keep up the good routines! ^_^

Then again I can't believe Lin is looking at 60 either!! I think (I know!) a young attitude makes a big difference ........ and obviously hard work and good genes too!

My great grandma was living on her own until nearly 90 and did her own yard and gardening and still canned and cooked etc. She came to live with my grandma at about 90 after having broken her hip raking her yard and then they gardened and canned and cooked together for a few more years together! I hope I've got a good chunk of her genes in me! ^_^

You girls go!!!!

Thanks Kim, that flamingo is so cute!

I am just drinking liquids today. I have a migraine, so I can't rest well. I am so nervous. I HATE waking up from the anethesia. Really hard on me, I only have one nerve for balance. The other had to be cut in a very bad surgery. Just makes everything harder for sure.

This time tomorrow, I will be coming out of the anethes. I hope all will be well.

Sally: I know it's hard not to worry but try not to get too stressed. Have faith in your doctors and realize they do these operations every day. It's normal to be a bit scared before any surgery but your doctor knows your medical history so he wouldn't even suggest surgery if he thought there would be any complications for you.

I know everything will be alright and you will come through the surgery fine. All of your friends here in the garden are sending good thoughts your way, and will look forward to when you are feeling up to chatting and posting photo's of your beautiful plants once again. I hope your husband can log on for you maybe on Thursday to let us know how you are doing. Just take it easy, rest, sleep ... and enjoy being waited on by your hubby.

Blessings,

Lin

Thanks. It is tomorrow morning. Yep, I am looking forward to feeling better after I begin to heal.

Mom just called again. I know she and Dad are worried. Hard when your "little girl" is going in for surgery, even if she is 48! I am really looking forward to getting it done and hubby can call them with the news that it is over. This is done all the time, but they have seen me go through so much for years with the other problems too. Sweet parents... My sisters call and email too. This time tomorrow night all will be over.

Well, bye bye for now and thank you for your good wishes! I need them ALLLLL! See you soon.

Well, I am home now. I can't take medicines for pain so let's just say... OUCH. Lots of pain. I was very ill when I used the pain pump the first day, no fun to throw up after SURGERY. I can't take Morphine for sure. I am just taking Advil right now. Doesn't do anything, but helps with aching from being in my chair or bed so much.

My hubby is taking nine days off of work. He is taking perfect care of me. Not easy, I wake him all night to help me get up to the bathroom. All day too, ha. He feeds me and the pets, cleans etc.

I sure hope I can have less pain soon. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers. I was so scared Wed. morning.
